Coming off 2 major knee injuries, he shouldn't have been surprised an injury waiver was involved. I don't know what he has to lose by signing it but it's his lost. Why would you be stubborn like that when you were unemployed and a team wanted to sign you?

Are you serious? He has every right to decline as well.

cbrook didn't say it wasn't his right, he said he didn't know why he wouldn't sign it. I don't either. Maybe in a few weeks when no one will sign him without one he'll come back to us.

What is this FO coming to? First we lowball Tucker on his contract and now this for a paltry $1M? I know we've been burned by injuries, ask Perruman, but this is not a way to do business- everyone but the FO knows that. We might as well make Trent Richardson sign a waiver too.

for someone with a name like OzzieBisciotti, you sure have a dismal view of the front office.

I'm glad we didn't sign him. He's had issues. Only played in 4 games last season??? Why would we invest in a guy who has had numerous issues with the same knee? And the fact that it was "he" that wouldn't sign an injury waiver, tells me he has little confidence in himself.

Good point Mom Gene. If Oz is going to sign a person I would prefer a person who has not had as many problems staying healthy. Or better yet use the money to extend a guy before he hits free agency next season.

Because Jake Long was one of the best tackles in the League and we have unknowns, they should not of pressured him with that ludicrous deal. Test him as many times as you like, put the knee braces on and play ball with him.

Exactly- it's not like we have 20 tackles like we have 20 tight ends..

I don't even know why we were looking at Jake Long to begin with considering his injury history- we've had our own issues with injuries and most of our scenarios haven't worked out for us. Are we that desperate that we have to pick up someone that no one else wants? To top it off, we make him try to sign a waiver? We made Pitta do that after the second time he got his him messed up but come on.

You can't cut an injured player (if injured during training camp/pre-season) until he's healthy. And you have to continue to pay him while he's injured.

That's what an injury waiver is - it lets the team cut you if you are hurt

I see guys getting cut all the time that are hurt. Hasn't stopped them before. I wonder if football has something in place like MLB with insurance on contracts? That way if a player gets hurt the insurance picks up the cost (usually a portion based on the policy) and pays the player while they are injured. I know the Orioles had a policy on Albert Belle and it was paying around 30% of his contract while he was hurt. Then again, baseball contracts are guaranteed and you have to pay these players no matter what.

Well that's a buzz kill. He may not have stayed healthy but he would have been a good mentor and good depth regardless. Esp if we got him for close to the vet min.

TE: Ben Watson
TE: Crockett Gillmore (coming back from injury, team wasn't sure if he'd be ready for the regular season)
TE: Maxx Williams
TE: Nick Boyle (10 game suspension)
TE: Darren Waller (converted WR, 4 game suspension)
TE: Daniel Brown (converted WR)
TE: Dennis Pitta (I don't think anybody was really expecting him to make a come back and actually get on the field...which still remains to be seen).

We've got some bodies in camp, but some won't be able to play and I suspect that Boyle may very well get cut when he is eligible to return depending on the health of the team at the time. He was a low draft pick, not earning a lot of money, and this is his second offense and suspension for the same thing. Ravens usually don't tolerate that stuff. Waller was on the bubble anyway. So you're really down to Watson, Gillmore, Williams, and Pitta. Nobody thinks Brown has a chance at the roster. Most teams carry 4 TE's but keep 3 active.

Maybe in a few weeks our FO will come crawling back to Jake Long with their tail between their legs.  However, when the time comes when we realize we really need him, will he be there?

Bad move by Newsome......but he let his little partner DeCosta call it.  Bad move nevertheless.  I believe we will regret this one.

Operative word is WAS. Wasn't the best or even close when he played only 17 snaps last year

I really don't know how anyone can take a look at the recent track record of the Flacco era and come to the conclusion that the front office "sucks."

6/8 winning seasons, one of the non-winning seasons was a .500 season.

6/8 playoff runs which consisted of at least one playoff win each.

1 Superbowl Championship.

There are a whole lot of teams that would sign up to "suck" that much. The Browns would LOVE to "suck" like that.

I know you typically posts some anti-Ravens front office stuff, but from what I have seen so far I can't seem to find a logical reason for it. In a results driven league where winning matters more than anything, the results make for a pretty open and shut case that this front office knows how to win.
