The drooling over Average Joe on this site gets a little cringe worthy at times. Yes, he has a ring, got it. We all root for every guy on the team, so the Ravens can win. Yes. But right now, Jump Ball Joe is the 25th rated QB by by pundits and peers, which is about right. A lifetime 84.7 rating after eight years, isn't even average, It's poor. It's just the facts. I root like heck for the guy, so the Raven's win, but let's face it. If it wasn't for some divine intervention on a fourth and 29, and a 70 yard wing and a prayer heave, he probably wouldn't even be on this team now. I guess everyone is worth what someone will pay them.

Thats why stats are for contracts, His W-L record as at top of the list, his playoff wins is at the top, his playoff road wins is at the top....When it matters he has delivered more than he hasn't....

While I will admit that I am a Ravens fan and have some bias as to the players on this team, it is posts like these that leave me scratching my head. These types of posts make me wonder when the person who authored them became a fan of the Ravens; or indeed if they are Ravens fans, and if they really realize what the history of this team was prior to Joe coming to town and after it. I've got so much to say that I know this is going to be a long post. Instead of doing it with a reply here I will just start a new post in this thread.

This is in response to all of the posters out there that think Joe Flacco is not elite, is just average, or just isn't worth a darn. Please allow me to share some very crucial facts with you.

1) Do any of you recall what this QB situation looked like prior to Joe Flacco being drafted? Would it shock you to know that the second best QB in Ravens history and is second on all of the QB franchise rankings is Vinny Testaverde who played only two seasons with the Ravens? The QB that won a superbowl with the Ravens prior to Flacco wasn't even the starter that season and the team really won despite Dilfer's lack of productivity. They won due to an amazing defense and the legs of Jamal Lewis and Matt Stover. Let me just remind you of some of the "illustrious" names that were the Ravens QB's after Vinny.

Jim Harbaugh, Tony Banks, Elvis Grbac, Jeff Blake, Kyle Boller, and Steve McNair.

2) Joe Flacco was not supposed to start his rookie season. Kyle Boller was supposed to battle Troy Smith for the starting role. Boller got injured and was on the IR, then it was supposed to be Smith's job. He ended up getting a severe throat infection and missed the entire off season. Flacco got the job.

3) 2008 Flacco went 11-5 in his first season ever with the likes of Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton to toss to. He had Todd Heap, but thanks to Boller getting him nearly killed every game he was already starting to show signs of being shot worn and wasn't the same playmaking TE he was. They made it to the playoffs and won two games, ultimately losing to the Steelers in the conference championship game.

4) 2009 Flacco goes 9-7, gets a wild card playoff spot and BEATS the Patriots, but loses to the Manning led Colts. His receiving corps is one again led by the aging Derrick Mason, the fragile Mark Clayton, the beaten up Todd Heap...and Kelley Washington somehow was made to look like a superstar as the 3rd wideout.

5) 2010: Flacco goes 12-4, Beat the Chiefs in a wild card playoff game, but lose to the Steelers in the Divisional Championship game. Flacco has the Ravens version of the Over the Hill Gang to throw to in Derrick Mason, Anquan Boldin, Tood Heap, and T.J. Houshmanzedah...all 30 or older.

6) 2011: Flacco goes 12-4 again, beat the Texans in the playoffs, but lose to the Patriots in the conference championship game. Flacco has rookie Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin, and two rookie TE's Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson to throw to as well as the infamous Lee Evans.

7) 2012: Flacco goes 10-6, beats the Patriots (former SB winning team), The Broncos (soon to be a SB winning team) and the nemesis Colts to get to the SB. They beat the 49'ers and Flacco is named the MVP. His targets are Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin, Jacoby Jones, and Dennis Pitta.

8) 2013: Flacco goes 8-8, first season ever with him as a starter they don't have a winning record and they fail to make the playoffs. The receiving corps was so decimated by injuries that they turned to Dallas Clark and Brandon Stokley for help. Flacco's targets were Torrey Smith, Jacoby Jones, rookie Marlon Brown, Dennis Pitta, and the aforementioned ancients.

9) 2014: Flacco goes 10-6, back to the playoffs with a win over Steelers in the wild card game and then lose to the Patriots in the Divisional game. His targets are Steve Smith Sr., Torrey Smith, Owen Daniels, and then a whole slew of backups due to Jacoby Jones getting injured.

We know what happened in 2015. Injuries galore. So Flacco goes 7 straight seasons with a winning record, 7 straight visits to the playoffs including a superbowl win, and you can't point to him having 1 single front line ace WR to help him out and yet somehow he's no good? His first non-winning season was 8-8...and the very next season he's winning and back in the playoffs again. This team was mired in disarray looking for a franchise QB and we finally got one and now people are trying to say he's awful? Here's an idea, get him a WR worth a darn to throw to that isn't 30+ years old, stop changing his OC every season, and maybe he'd be darn near unstoppable.

You could not be more wrong. Stats are for losers and that my friend has been proven more then once. Get with the program and forget the talking heads.

The only stat that matters is the "W" and Joe has more of them in is time since being a rookie than just about any other QB in the league during that time. His playoff performances are only equaled by some scrub also named Joe...Montana.

I'd rather win ugly than lose with a bunch of sexy stats.

Cool Joe is clutch. He is a winner and a team leader. Is he Elite? I am not one to make that point or not. But, when it comes to him being right for the Ravens? I can make that one, HE IS!

Maybe the ability to wing a prayer and get divine intervention is worth more than just a few bucks.

If it wasn't for Lee Evans' drop, or our secondary being decimated by injuries in 2014, Flacco would probably have 3 SB rings, and he still would be on the team if we didn't win it in 2012. Even before the Mile High Miracle, he had still shattered a record by winning a playoff game in each of his first 5 seasons, after coming to a team that hadn't won a single playoff game in 7 years. He is not the 25th rated qb by pundits and peers. You got that from one guy who was wary of our "qb situation" because of his injury. As far as his qb rating, it's not poor considering the lack of talent he's had to work with, and despite that, he still has some of the best playoff stats of all time, and his arm is second to none. A qb that is anywhere close to "average" cannot accomplish all of the things Flacco has, nor can he come close.

Are you a Ravens fan or Patriots or Steelers fan? You sound like one of them. Stop looking at stats its doesn't mean a thing. Championships matter and Joe has one and maybe another in the future. Also stop thinking what or could have happen. Everybody needs a little bit of luck in the playoffs. The Patriots have luck when they won the SuperBowl during the 2014 season did they. ☹️

A very valuable man indeed as one of the most overpaid qbs in the league- above avg but not elite- he def is better than 1/2 the qbs in the league when he has the right protection/ weapons. i still dont see us making the playoffs until 2018

I can respect that you don't rate Joe because everybody is entitled to an opinion but stats don't tell a full story. You can use stats to support any argument you want to make, now that's fact. He's contributed greatly to the team winning a Super Bowl ring and getting deep into the play-offs on numerous occasions since he was drafted and that's without the weapons that other teams have had.

Do you know that shortly after Flacco got his contract he was promptly booted from his status as the top paid QB? Do you know who was the first QB to surpass him? Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins...yeah. What exactly has he won? Oh, and Tannehill was then promptly surpassed by Tony Romo....and remind me again what he's won? Since then many other QB's have gotten new and healthier contracts. It seems as if Flacco set the floor on what the new wave of QB contracts were going to be.

A guy that goes rattles off 7 winning seasons in a row, goes to the playoffs and wins at least one game in each of those 7 seasons, wins a superbowl and was the MVP of said game, misses a winning season once and still went .500 after the team was gutted from the superbowl team, comes right back and has yet another winning season and goes to the playoffs again the following year. 8/10 years of winning football and playoff appearances. All this without you being able to name a superior receiving threat he's had to work with and a literal revolving door at the OC position. Put any other QB in those circumstances and see how they do.
