I missed it back then, too. Here's the forum thread I opened back about a month ago when I first read about it: http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/topic/68982-has-anyone-heard-about-dan-brown-switching-to-tight-end/

IMHO it wasn't really fair to Brown, to be honest: while Waller's switch was all the rage and analysed ad nausem, there was no official announcement of Brown also switching to TE, even the pundits were only guessing by the muscle Brown packed up, and a remark he made...

I look at this site every single day, and I too, somehow missed this. I agree with you, not fair to Brown. He really doesn't stand a chance....not on our team anyway.(Could be wrong....but probably not:mellow:)

"Might see time at inside linebacker"? Still don't understand why they passed on Myles Jack who would have filled that role.

No doubt because of the knee issues. It was a bad injury.

Long is yet another perfect example of "low risk, high reward" type of signings. I was not expecting it, but seems like a very excellent player to take a chance on that he can rebound from his injuries. To be honest, who would you rather have as a plan B player- Long or Hurst? The combination of proven vet Long with the raw talent of Lewis sounds like an exciting duo to hold down the back-up tackle positions.

I still think that the return job will be Reynolds to lose. If he can show any kind of decent ability and not look lost out there, I think the Ravens would prefer to keep him on the active roster. Now if Clay has some kind of super outstanding pre-season where he's looking crazy dominant, sure, Clay could be kept on as a return specialist. But I believe the team has high hopes for Reynolds not only as a returner but possibly some use as an offensive weapon. Clay just has not shown he's capable at WR. I have not been impressed with Camp when he's been on special teams. I think he'll be given every opportunity to make the team as a true WR, but don't see him as our returner.

And nice to hear Victor Ochi's name brought up. This kid could be a real sleeper. Am looking forward to see how he reacts to training camp and pre-season. There is always an undrafted guy who steps up for the Ravens, and I think he has the raw talent to pull it off. I actually wondered if the Ravens were going to draft him, and think they may have if they had a seventh rounder available. Of course, you always want all your rookies to do well, But I always like to root for those small school guys.

Why are they still not giving Daniel Brown an opportunity. He's goes out in front of the fans and makes plays. The fans want to see more of him and Harbaugh throws him to the back of the bus. I want to see Dan Brown get more opportunities and not just thrown in when all else fails.

I only remember one play, which was a bad call that neglected his TD at Miami. But let's be realistic, whether he is a TE or WR, he doesn't stand much of a chance. At WR, he will not beat out SSS, Aiken, Wallace, Moore, and Perriman for sure. That leaves probably one more spot and MAYBE another. That last spot, imo, will go to a WR who shows the most in the return game. That narrows it down to Campanaro, Clay, and Reynolds. At TE, we are stacked. Gilmore, Watson, and Williams are locks to make the roster. Pitta is a question mark. I think Pitta will be used as more of a receiver in passing situation and that's about it. I don't think Pitta will be on the field during running downs/situations. He will be in certain packages, etc. Waller and Brown really don't stand a chance. Waller is kind of lucky that he is suspended, because he will be around the first 4 weeks and he is a good special teams player, that is in his favor. Then you have Boyle, who is a good blocker and showed talent when he played. So, who do you think Brown beats out? Because all of the guys listed can make the same plays and then some that he makes.

Yeah, I was the driver of the Dan Brown bandwagon :D - but if he's not good enough to make the team... We had the same thing woth Omar Brown a few seasons ago, or Bobby Rainey... Damned numbers game :(

Well Boyle will miss the first 10 games of the season for his second PED violation, Waller will miss the first 4 due to a substance abuse violation, Pitta is one tweak away from maybe never being able to walk again. I still don't know if Pitta will really make this roster. I hope he stays healthy. I do not want to see him down on the turf with that leg flopping around again.

This means that there is a chance that only Watson, Williams, and Gillmore are ahead of him and Gillmore is coming off of labrum surgery and that other shoulder of his might get operated on in the future. They passed on it this year thinking rehab would be enough. Labrums are no joke and they are a tough injury to repair and come back from. Hopefully neither of them were what is called a SLAP tear. Those are the most difficult to fix.

Out of all the "trees" the team had last season, Daniel Brown was actually the most productive. Marlon Brown disappeared and went on IR and was cut. Chris Matthews hasn't done anything since that super bowl. Waller got hurt and will be missing 4 games. If they are looking to keep one "tree" on the roster, Daniel Brown might be it especially if he proves he can play TE and he could in a pinch line up at WR too. I think it is a reach for him to make the roster, but it isn't impossible.

I like Daniel Brown as well but even if I had to choose between him and Mathews I'd probably prefer the latter.  We have slot guys, speedsters and chain movers but I think one WR position will be left open for a tall redzone target. Given that waller and brown both packed on some weight I think the job might be Mathews to lose. He flashed several times last year with poor qb play.

Congrats to the Lions for being smart enough to sign a WINNER. They will reap Boldins 70+ catches and 900 yards. Can never have enough WINNERS on your team, particularly at 2 million for the season. Best of luck to you "Q"

Yeah, he won't be putting up those kinds of numbers anymore.

Coaches see everything you see AND everything you don't.

That's why he's not on the field. Because they see things you don't see.

I have zero interest in seeing more of him. I have interest in seeing the best players play. And if he's not outplaying others to EARN playing time, then he's not one of the best players.

Just remember you said this when Daniel Brown starts making plays on live tv, whether with us or another team.

He's literally done nothing, I could understand if he made some plays but he hasn't

I second that. We could've really used Q to top off our wr core this year....but I highly doubt he would ever consider coming back here after the way he was traded away while on vacation w/o notice. Maybe that wasn't as bad as it was made out to be though. Who knows. Q is my 2nd favorite athlete of all time, right behind SSS. That was the case before both put on purple as well. Luckiest thing for me. I agree 100% that he'll put up 70+ catches and 900+ yards this year. 9 TDS too. I would spike those numbers another 20% too if Marvin Jones doesn't stay healthy which he usually doesn't. Plus he's completely overated. Good Luck Q. Not sure if your numbers will get you in the HOF, but if I made a list of the best 50 FOOTBALL players ever, you'd be on there

Mike Wallace fails conditioning test. Prepared? NO.

Lots of guys you wouldn't suspect of having an issue with passing a physical have failed the Ravens conditioning test. I think it might have been Torrey Smith as a rookie failing his first attempt because he said he didn't know what he was in for. He went all out at the very beginning and burned himself out. The next time he ran it he passed it with no problem and he said it wasn't because he really worked out extra or anything, he was just more aware of what was needed of him and he approached it with a better plan.

I wouldn't worry too much about this unless he is routinely failing it. Then you know he's got a problem.

Receptions may be there, yardage won't.

He will be the #3 in Detroit, whereas he's been basically the #1 elsewhere for several years now.

I guess Oz and Eric didn't do their due diligence on Long- similar to Perriman situatio- has Long even signed yet? I've not heard the follow-up after he was supposed to see Dr Andrews.... At least we're learning from our past mistakes
