Updated: Ravens not signing OT Jake Long

Very surprised but I like it. Having only one LT on the roster was shaky. Long is Injury Prone but in good shape is one of the better OTs of the league, I'll wait to see how much this cost us, but it's a signing I like, as long as it doesn't hinder us too much for the resignings.

I'm just glad we've finally realized Hurst isn't a viable backup option. Assuming Stanley and Long are healthy, this should eliminate the possibility of Hurst being on the roster come week 1.

As "Long" as this is a cheap deal, this is a great signing. Quality back-up and insurance if Stanley doesn't pan out. He is a great LT but just can't stay healthy. Here he won't be used as much to where if he gets hurt it becomes an issue

LOVE this signing

I really like the move.

He obviously isn't the Jake Long of old, but if he can get healthy, he could potentially be a really solid backup.

Anyone wonder if he'd be able to play LG?

In regards to LG, I was thinking the same thing. It gives us that option if the younger guys aren't prepared to hold that spot

Weird, was just thinking about this this morning. Literally was looking at Beatty and Long all morning contemplating which one I wanted us to sign. And just like that - Ozzie gets it done.

Love the signing... been a "Long" time coming. I crack myself up.

But, gives us an experienced back up at worst, and best pushes Stanley, Wagner, and the LG options for a starting spot. Im always in favor of competition and quite frankly if he plays better than someone we're expecting to start im all for it. Hopefully Stanley still wins the job because I want him to hit the ground running and start his path to being a great LT, but I also want the 5 best guys on the field.

My ONLY issue with letting Monroe go at the time was the fact that it left us bare in terms of depth at tackle. Shouldve known Oz would take care of it... and he did. Very happy with this.

My guess is he's just a veteran insurance policy, but we shall see.

I mentioned this as a possible depth signing.   Long stated this is the healthiest he has been since being drafted.   I have a feeling we will see Jake in LT role often this year.

I don't see Ronnie being able to handle elite rushers(nor can Jake) right out of the bat.

Ditto. Wondering if there's still thoughts of Stanley bumping down this yr too

I'd imagine the same as well, but I can't imagine the FO will just hand the LG job to Urschel.

At his best, Long would be a huge upgrade. At worst, he'd probably be equal in play.

Certainly not getting handed the job. There's like 5 guards in camp that I think could all play decently at LG. Plenty of competition there, and its possible Long is one of them.

I like Urschel, and he's technically sound and very smart, but there are just limitations to his game that he cannot overcome physically.

As for Jensen, I liked what I saw, but I'd like to see more.

Past that, what other great options are thete assuming Stanley stays put.

Wicked! Every time I start a new franchise in Madden, I sign Jake Long during FA :D

Health permitting, can't ask for a better back up at such an important position.

Big fan of this move.  The only reason I wanted to keep Monroe before he was released was because I was worried about the depth at the LT position, but now we seem to have sured that up.

Only thing that matters to me is depth frankly. Almost a zero percent chance we last a season or even multiple weeks without an injury to an offensive lineman... they just happen to everybody.

We've now got at least two guys on the roster who can play LT, we know Yanda can play RT, we know Urschel can play Center, and we've got like 3-4 guys who can play Guard in a pinch and hold their own. And that's ignoring rookies like Lewis who we don't even know what we have.

Who starts to me doesn't matter a ton. That will work itself out in camp.

I totally fogot about Alex Lewis, but camp battles are half the fun of preseason and training camp.

I like this, we definitely needed another LT. And this seems like a perfect situation for Long to actually stay healthy as a reserve player.

If he's healthy, Long could be a good backup tackle and mentor to Stanley and the other young tackles. Right player, right price.

This is a really good signing as an insurance policy on both the LT and RT positions. He's an upgrade over Hurst and if he can stay healthy he's an upgrade over Monroe.

If this guy is healthy I don't think you can be upset with this move at all. Ozzie has done a good job making the Monroe situation a non factor with this signing
