[News] Byrne Identity: Let The Fun Begin! How Good Will Ravens Be?

39 posts in this topic

I think the ravens are very real SB contenders this year, but we need a few things to go right on both sides of the ball. On offense we need, Joe back to form, SSS to come back and put up decent numbers and still be able to make a few big plays a game, Perriman to actually get on the field and be the player we thought he was when we drafted him, and good play from the oline to protect joe and effectively run the ball.

On defense we an overall better performance from the secondary, more turnovers and a solid passrush attack.

If those things go right or at least 90% of them go right, the sky's the limit.

I was starting to think I was the only one with Super Bowl hopes this year. It doesn't hurt at all that Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are missing key players for part or all of the season too (Martavis Bryant, Le'Veon Bell, Tyler Eifert, Vontaze Burfict). I'm 100% expecting a career-year out of Flacco this season with all the weapons he has. The left side of the O line is a little worrying, but the Ravens seem to have a lot of confidence in Stanley at LT, and they sure as hell know better than me or anyone on this board, so I have a lot of faith in him. Our early schedule is relatively weak as well, 8-1/7-2 to start out the season certainly isn't out of the question if a few things go right. It's that late stretch of tough games that will make or break us. Joe has proven time and time again that as long as we make the playoffs, we'll always be Super Bowl contenders, and in my eyes this offense is better than the offense that won Super Bowl 47, so I'm very excited for this season.

100% career year out of Flacco. Uh, yeah right. 8-1 to start the season. Sure. Why not, they were 5-11 last year.

We will be better then last year but how much better is anyone's guess. If we can stay healthy possibly playoff bound. I hope we can beat those in our division especially the Bengals. I don't worry much about the Steelers believe it or not. They will be close games but I think we come out on top. Go Ravens.

Bold Predictions:

Ravens end 10-6. This is because of the defense. It finished last season as the 2nd best defense the last half of the season only behind Denver. It took awhile for the Ravens to get used to the absence of Suggs, With the additions of Weddle and Powers, the Ravens turn around their poor redzone defense.

Reynolds catches 30 balls. Barely making the roster at the beginning of the season, he then shows off his vision and becomes the season ending story for the Ravens.

Kamalei Correa is the starting inside linebacker next to Mosley.

Joe Flacco throws for 4500 yards, which is what he was on pace for in 2015.

I like your thinking!

we need at least 1 of the receivers not named sss to have that anquan boldin mentality and skill set. go after that pig skin and fight for it. be physical.

Kamar Aiken has the mentality, but he just doesn't quite have the same Anquan Boldin skill set. Sometimes persistence and determination are not enough, you have to have some talent too.

I'm so curious to see what we get out of Mike Wallace. He was a home run hitter with the Steelers and the insurance policy for Breshad Perriman that we didn't have last year. I remember being astonished when the Steelers let him leave in favor of Antonio Brown. He would have been a nice compliment to Kamar Aiken or Steve Smith last year.

With our Offensive Line reasonably intact, Flacco threw for his best career completion percentage. Only problem was he dinked and dunked so many balls his QBR was quite miserable and we couldn't win games. Now that was the Trestman influence and Trestman is still here. With our line out of sorts now and the Trestman system in year two...well..history hasn't been kind to year 2 Trestman.........I think Flacco may be able to get Wallace the ball deep. I hope so.

Defense will still hinge on the Suggs condition, the secondary and defensive line.  When we lost Darian Stewart ...how we lost him is the question......we really went on skid row.  Our defense will be ok........but don't see the budding stars the eternal hopefuls see.

Look, it should be obvious to every one that last year was a fluke. Putting 18 players on IR affected the team in every possible way and ended up being the difference in a lot of very close games. That many on IR affects the team in a lot of ways but most importantly is it destroys quality depth. That means the better players are more exhausted at the end of the game which is when close games are won and lost. It also puts a lot of less talented players on the field for longer periods of time. IMO that is what happened in a nutshell. Maybe it's an oversimplification but it's what I saw.
This year totally depends on the healthy return of about 9-10 starters: Flacco, Suggs, Dumervil, Gilmore, Zuttah, Steve Smith, Jimmy Smith, Perriman, Wagner and Forsett. It also will depend on the play of veteran and rookie additions like Powers, Weddle, Wallace, Correa, Stanley, Moore, Dixon, Kaufusi and Watson.
From what I've heard and read it looks like everyone is expected back without residual loss of ability due to the injuries. The only real question mark right now is Perriman and we don't even know what we lost due to his injuries.
If all goes well (no significant injury problem) I guarantee this team wins the AFC North (the Steelers have absolutely no secondary and we are 4-1 against them the last 2 seasons) and goes deep in the playoffs.

I still think that secondary is a problem! Ok, we got Weddle, but who is going to be the other safety? Webb? I don't think he has the physicality to be an effective safety at this point in his career. How about corners? We got Jimmy Smith who played like crap last season, and who else do we have at corner?
I'm also hoping the offensive line holds up, especially on the left side.
