he's not in the same stratosphere as luke. AT BEST he could be a timmons. I don't see him being that great ILB that take it to another level.

Perpetual downer is back.

Mosley's a guy that will define his own destiny. He has all the tools and opportunity, but the things that will make him one of the very best—attention to detail, consistency, strategic understanding of opponents/how to exploit weaknesses, etc—can't really be coached.

I think he'll put it together, but it's all on him.

Gotta be honest, he's vastly behind Luke Kuechly in coverage, although I'd say it's  a wash in run defense, and I give the edge in blitzing to Mosley.

However, the one thing to really set Kuechly apart is he studies so much film that he literally knows the play half the time before the offense even snaps the ball. I don't think Mosley has hit that point.

Perhaps he can hit that point though especially if he's willing to put that study time in.

I definitely think so. It's all recognition and learning on Kuechly's part.

Kuechly is a modern day Ray Lewis as far as studying game film and play recognition etc.  He's a young beast!

Don't mean to be rude, but who gives a crap about the vocal part of that.. It's not his personality you can still be a good leader without being flamboyant like Ray Lewis was.

I agree. There's a plethora of silent beasts in the NFL.

Mosley has been wearing the green dot since the Tampa game of his rookie year when he took over from D Smith.  If this was "announced" somehow by the team, it's simply confirming that he'll continue rather than have Weddle take over.

The Ravens have always (to the best of my knowledge) had an ILB as defensive signal caller.  That's included, Lewis, Hartwell, Bynes, Smith, Mosley, McClain and probably a couple of others (Ellerbe, Scott, Greisen?).  It is possible that Turner was calling plays at some point in 1996, but that would be the only non-ILB signal caller.  Even Rod Woodson did not get that role here.

Because the green-dot ILB has to be on the field for every play (that's a practical need, not a rule), there is a loss of flexibility from having your signal caller be an ILB rather than a safety, because it doesn't allow for as much defensive substitution on passing downs, be that in the form of additional pass rush threats or extra defensive backs.

But who'll be next to him?

Probably Orr. But Correa could get some snaps at ILB or as the Nickle linebacker since he has more range.

I might be in the minority here, but I think Orr is promising. Could be another surprise player. Ozzie is good at finding ILB's out of nowhere.

You dont think he can improve beyond his 2nd year?

I don't see Mosley surpassing Luke. As CJ improves so will Luke, but that's not a terrible thing, a great linebacker is a great linebacker.

With that being said, CJ is very solid and if the team is built around him correctly he, as well as this defense, will shine. A good pass rush will allow him to shine because he blitzes and reads blocks well but he's just not a great cover guy. It is what it is. Go get em CJ

i dont see it either.

TBH i dont see him surpassing guys like bowman and wagner anytime soon either.

i do see him surpassing guys like johnson and timmons this season though.

Mosley can be a top 5 MLB/ILB for sure.
