You'd rather have Aiken over Boldin - seriously??

At this point in their careers- yes I would.

Aiken was receiving about one more target per game, on average.

Maybe BC he was getting open more...he also was catching passes from 3 different backups.

Aiken gets slept on a lot but continuously  proves himself not only in camp but in gametime. I think he and Wallace start the season as the 1 and 2. SSS will kind of be like 1B and perriman will be 2B. Alot of rotating to keep steves legs fresh and to ease perriman in. The rest will be split up between campanaro and Moore depending on the scenario. This group has a lot of potential if they are used correctly. That's not even mentioning the tight ends and the way the backs can catch passes. If trest can utilize them all properly we could be an extremely dangerous offense. His playcalling has been questionable but I'm gonna chalk that up to him not having alot to work with last year. And yet he still put up the most points in franchise history. That's nothing to sneeze at. Now that we have some continuity I see us building on that and crushing that record again. A lot rides on the running game though. If we can control the clock and dominate with time of possession we can wear defenses down, keep our defense fresh, and then kill teams with the play action deep ball to perriman and Wallace. A lot of "what its" ..but the blueprint and peices are there. Trestman just has to be patient, not get too pass happy and find a way to balance out and utilize all of these weapons properly.

Didn't realize they had Lewis as doing this well either, and this is with game 1 at LT (albeit against lesser pass rushers)

Hasn't he also been playing LG next to Stanley for these first 2 games?

Kind of. He played LG in game 1 after Urschel, but played LT once Stanley left.

This isn't something I've been looking for in the games, but is Alex Lewis really doing better than John Urschel? If so thats saying alot considering Urschel isn't doing bad at all.

Urschel didn't play in game 2, so there's really only a small portion of game 1 to judge on him.

For me, it's the nastiness and the toughness that Alex Lewis can bring. Urschel is technically sound and very smart, but he just isn't overly strong or athletic and I think that's a big edge for Lewis.

The fact that we may start the season with zero NFL game experience on the left side really concerns me. Especially since that lack of experience is protecting  our recovering franchise QB.

But at the same time, if Lewis is better than Urschel, you're putting Joe at more risk by not having the best players on the field

I think experience can be overrated in a sense.  If Lewis is better than anyone else for LG, give me Lewis.  I've never been one to throw a guy out there just because he has some years and snaps in the league.  Now, I think it's important to have some of those guys as backups just in case the young guy doesn't work out.

Experience and chemistry along the line is good, but you still need to put the best five players out there. There'll be growing pains, but it could pay off more in the long run.

While I agree w/ you both, it's still a concern of mine. Since Urschel is hurt, we really don't know if Jensen Lewis would have won the starting LG spot.  If Urschel is out much longer, Jensen Lewis will get the LG spot by default.  And that's were the lack of experience plays a factor.

Harbs basically said the same thing that you guys stated, the best 5 will be out there and if he didn't have confidence in them they wouldn't start.

I assume you meant Lewis, not Jensen, but his name brings up an interesting point.

Jensen can also play LG, but Lewis is still ahead of him.

Yeah, I meant Lewis.  The way Jensen got pancaked on Indy's 1 yard line at Center I'm surprised they didn't make him walk home.

From my understanding, it sounds like Lewis was actually a legitimate competitor for the LG spot before Urschel got hurt.

People talk about experience, but it's not like Urschel is a seasoned vet. He barely played a season.

Well, he is a third year vet, but no, he has not started a season.

pre season games barely have any game planning on the defensive side, so it should make blocking a bit easier.

regular season is where defenses get creative and where experience can be the deciding factor.

It's impossible to accurately grade an individual on the OL without knowing the blocking assignments on a given play, but they provide a general idea for O-Linemen. PFF is (or was) most useful for their signature stats, which they seem to no longer offer for regular consumers.

That was the worst decision ever. Went from one of my fave websites to one I rarely refer to.

It's a mere $1500 if you want to subscribe to their signature stats ;)

In some ways I'm kind of glad PFF stopped selling their advanced stats; I was becoming a bit too reliant on them instead of actually watching games.

I think it's bc some FO's starting using them as a resource for player evaluation and grading. They prob worked out an agreement where the advanced stats wouldn't be so readily available to any Joe that wanted them.

That's what I began to think. Someone payed them a crap ton for the exclusivity, or they realized ESPN was using their stuff too willy nilly

It was really useful if you're like me and pay attention to the small details, but don't actually want to sit down with a pen and paper and detail it all out.

I enjoyed going back to look at the targets/receptions/yards allowed by corners and the pressures/hits/sacks allowed by offensive lineman.

Didn't practice today:  Tali, M. Williams, Pitta, Urschel, B. Williams, Z. Smith, K. Lewis, Powers, Webb, Buck Allen, Zuttah.

Harbs stated that Pitta and Williams should be back next week.

Also stated he expects Perriman to play on Thursday, pending medical clearance.

and that Urschel is the expected starter but Lewis gives them something to think about based of his good play.
