Great news with Breshad but Elam just can't get a chance to prove himself. Sucks for him.

Pitta broke his finger? Does anyone know how long he'll be out?

sprained it during a training camp fight with LB Onuwaser (SP)

I think it was a sprain or something he should be back playing probably within the next week. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play until the Buffalo game thogh.

Harbaugh said it was a "break in the finger."

Don't think Pitta makes the team to be honest

If he resembles his past form in any way he has to, especially given his chemistry with the QB and his clutch factor.

I want him to make it, but it was really stupid on his part the way he broke his finger and there's a logjam at TE.

It was first initially reported as a sprained finger I never heard until now when Bleacher Report sent me an update that said broken finger. So I never heard the update before that it was broken until now.

He's a guy I think you actually need to see on the field.  So far, he hasn't been able to do that.  Hard to give a roster spot to a guy that has played 7 games in the last 3 years and is still uncertain.  His emotion really could have hurt his chances.

No, he punched KC and broke it.

Was it him?  I thought it was Correa?

You're right it was KC.  BC Flacco got in KC's face afterwards.

Does Elam go straight to IR or do we think he ends up on the PUP list to start the season?

Can't go on PUP.  It's straight IR, IR to return, or active roster for him.

Edit: New rule is you don't have to designate a return player beforehand, so expect him to go to IR with hopes of returning later.  If a better player has to go to IR, they can determine which one is worth bringing back.

Good point. IR designated for return only has one player eligible right? Might be a gamble to use that spot on him.

You can't PUP him.  Only thing you can do is IR with Designated to Return, IR (which ends his season), or go with an injury settlement and try to bring him back when he's healthy (unless he's claimed off waivers when we cut him, which I would think is unlikely).

My gut feeling is we go the injury settlement route and try to bring him back after the first 4-6 weeks of the season.

I thought they were experimenting with expanding that? Did they not?

Just edited my post above to reflect the new rule this year.

Just not sure if he's quite "good enough" to justify using your IRDTR spot on.

Happy to see that Elvis is back!

Perriman off PUP now is also good news, but until I see him IN a game, I won't believe it.

Since it might get lost in the shuffle, here's my edit from above.

New rule is you don't have to designate a return player beforehand, so expect him to go to IR with hopes of returning later.  If a better player has to go to IR, they can determine which one is worth bringing back.

I wasn't aware of the new rule change about the designated to return spot that RMW10 brought up, so if you don't have to designate him to return in advance then IR is a possibility, except if we don't bring him back as the 1 player then his career in Baltimore is probably done.  That's why my gut is we go with the injury settlement so at least if we don't want to bring him back later, someone else can sign him later this season.

Yeah makes sense to put him on IR and see if anybody "more important" gets a multiple week injury during the season, and then make a decision there.

I suppose it depends on how long they expect him to be out. If he's expected to miss like 6-8 weeks or something like that, then he may just go on IR or be released with injury settlement.

So far I've only read that Elam will miss several weeks.  Well it's 3 weeks until week 1.  I guess it will come down to how many weeks after that he's expected to miss.  With a three week cushion, a 6 week injury is manageable

Very cool change to the IR rule.  That will be very helpful for this team, with several injuries pending.

I also like the idea of releasing Pitta under injury settlement and resigning him after week 1.  That used to be done routinely for veteran players with no real market (I'm thinking T Erik Williams a few years back).

I don't think any other team would sign Pitta, nor do I believe he would want to sign elsewhere.

Are there cap considerations?
