So maybe you could consider this reckless speculation and I've hesitated connecting these dots but I'm going to throw this out there in regards to Perriman. I was listening to an interview Ross Tucker had with a representative from the NFLPA. Primarily about all the heat that they were unfairly getting over the "bad" deal they negotiated for the players. And he says one of the things the got the NFL to heavily invest in was medical research and that new advancements in acl research put recovery times at a matter of weeks rather than a matter of months. That really blew my mind at the time and I could not believe how under reported this has been since.

So within the same month of hearing this Perriman has this acl tear but there's this short recovery time table matching the one from this report. Leads me to believe this tear is just as bad as the original report however these stem cell treatments being reported are part of this new technology.

Still shocked how underreported this really is. I believe we are talking about groundbreaking treatments here that we are going to be hearing a lot more about if this recovery is a success. Personally I am still skeptical on all of this. Hence my week 6 over under post as a more realistic time table. Which would still be quite miraculous in my eyes. We shall see.

The current White House staff really opened up the doors for stem cells, but they are one of the miracles of medicine with how much you can do with them.

I've done a few research papers on them and given the relatively new advancements behind embryonic, I'd imagine in a few more years, you'll begin to hear of this as a miracle medicine treatment.

Knee jerk reaction but the secondary after Weddle and Jimmy is still a huge question mark.

That wasn't Weddle back there though.

Ladarius probably had the sun get in his eyes..........."Blinding"

Check out the shadows on the field.

What about that throw. Check out the spiral on that thing. Low boring trajectory. That's the type of throw Flacco excels at.

Unfortunately it sounds like Waller is making the Cut decision more difficult after today.

Waller's suspended, so he will go on the suspension list. We won't have to make any decisions about him until Week 5

You say that like it's a bad thing

The little I've heard this sounds like one of the biggest breakthroughs of our time. Hard to believe how under reported this is.

It's controversial to people, so I don't think you'll hear a ton on it

Embryonic stem cells will be arguably the greatest advancement in medicine once it becomes a widely acceptable treatment method and theyve researched enough to understand the full capabilities, fine tuned how best to use them, etc...

The theoretical possibilities are mind blowing.

Problem is, once that happens and people realize all the possibilities, and it becomes acceptable - big business gets involved and the stem cells themselves go through the roof in value... and then questions about harvesting practices and regulation become highly controversial... people basically farming abortions - it could get ugly.

Thats the problem with the human race. We cant have anything nice.

Steve Smith is officially out at practice this morning.  Looks like a walkthrough since they aren't wearing any pads, but still official nonetheless.

Yeah, not even close... They use preimplantation embryo that occur 1-6 days after conception and that's consented to when a female agrees to give her eggs to science.

The use of embryonic stem cells requires the use of pluripotent cells that haven't differentiated into specific tissue forming cells yet and that cannot occur in a developed embryo/fetus.

I thought he wasn't supposed to start practicing until next week?

I guess since today is a walkthrough, it's no big deal.  I imagine he'll be brought along slowly for actual practices.

The research on Embryonic stem cells used to be a big debate since it's arguably unethical, but the whole thing died down once Shinya Yamanaka discovered Induced pluripotent stem cells making research on embryonic stem cells largely unnecessary.

Believe they're also found in the umbilical cord.

Checked - yea they are.

And the embryo has the be destroyed to collect them. Just bc legally you need a consenting female -- what's to stop a black stem cell market supplier from forcing pregnancies on women to destroy and collect stem cells?

Cuz people never break rules or anything - especially when potentially huge money could be involved.

--

And, even if what you say is purely the case, and stem cells could only be collected 1-6 days after conception... how many people who conceive naturally know within that time frame? Sounds like these are women getting pregnant only to purposely have the embryo destroyed within a week later.

You dont see the potential ethical dilemma there???

It was a large debate under the Bush administration to the point that they put an executive order out that mandated zero usage of embryonic stem cells.

Of course, Obama raised this order and Yamanaka was actually conducting his research in 2012. I never got the ethics of the debate anyway since women knowingly donate their eggs to this research for medical advancements.

You'll get multipotent cells that way, not the totipotent (incorrectly used pluri) cells that they're seeking.

Most of that research was done in Japan. It has nothing to do with the Obama administration. First IPSs were created as early as 2006. Yamanaka got a Nobel Prize 2012, that's all. You don't need actual embryonic material to research IPS, that's the point. They come from adult cells.

The reason why it was controversial is, that it involved the destruction of an embryo. Whether the mother agrees to the research or not, some people will have a problem with experimentation on what can be considered a human being at an early stage of development.

I only proposed one ethical dilemma.

Further availability of stem cells, regardless of how collected, in the wrong hands present a whole slew of issues in itself. For the right purposes theyre darn near a miracle.

But, in the hands of some crazy underground scientist who crosses human iPS cells into like a mouse embryo or some other animal... and start crossing genetic material.

And at least with ES cells, the person from which they were harvested at least knew (as pointed out, consent was necessary, though obviously could be forced) but with iPS cells they can be taken from anyone without their knowledge. There are some moral implications there... and again, if it becomes big business, you can bet there will be someone out there with the idea to start harvesting stem cells from people without their consent, which while not as morally problematic as pregnancy with the sole purpose of harvesting stem cells, still is an issue.

Alright so Suggs and SSS are back.

No ones talking about it, but wheres Doom at? The way he told it, all he had was a simple procedure to clean up his foot or something. Based on the timeline it was no later than like May, so we're 3 months removed at least.

Would like to see him get back out there.

Ok, cool. Good to hear.

I mean, I know he knows the defense and its more important for the younger guys to get the reps.... but i do want him to knock the rust off - plus id like to see what we've got in our defense, with the entire arsenal at our disposal, at least once before the season. Watch all the wolves up front just hunt.

With Doom returning to just a pass rush role this year, him sitting out doesn't bother me.  granted he needs the reps to get in FB shape.

He's a pro and he knows what he needs to do when he's cleared.

Gotta say Im really looking forward to seeing what Chris Moore can do this week.  I think he'll be the surprise of this draft class.
