Sign Johnny Manziel

131 posts in this topic

"NFL training camps begin at the end of July, and Manziel is still unsigned after being released by the Cleveland Browns in March." Manziel still has a lot of football in him.  He creates positive yardage passing and running the football whenever he is on the field.  Ravens could use Manziel's talents in the slot position as a receiver that can throw the football.  Not just for gimmick plays, but to make the Ravens offense more prolific and less risk to Joe (running for first downs).  Manziel under Ravens coaching staff, could amplify this offense.  Get over the knee-jerk reaction of this proposal and think about the advantages of this versatile player.  Some team will sign him for a song, why not the Ravens?

The response I want to post would probably be my last straw here so... I don't think it's a good idea to sign him.  Besides the domestic disputes, negative attention/media circus, alleged drug problems, being suspended already on his day off, there is also this big factor that he SUCKS!  Manziel is AWFUL.

Some young gifted athletes have had issues.  Michael Phelps for one example, had his rough spots, but over time has clearly demonstrated his core values would not be dissuaded.  Manziel within the Ravens framework could offer some unique core advantages, too.  If not publicly, the Ravens could at least have a private session with Manziel to evaluate him fully.

Vernon Gholston was a gifted athlete (08 draft I think).  That didn't make him a good football player.  Manziel to me is neither a gifted athlete or good football player.  Not big enough to play the game he wants and just not good enough to play period.  What "flashes" as a pro has he shown to why he should even be considered, especially with the baggage he brings?

Is this guy having a go at us?

This can't be a real thought, can it? Nah... Gotta be a joke.

Well maybe if he lost 3 lbs of fat and added 8-10 lbs of functional muscle he might be a pro bowler.

Omg No no NO nooooooo God forbid nooooo.....

I personally love watching Jonny play football but I wouldn't wish him on my enemies teams lol. There are a few QB desperate teams that could benefit from Johhny. The Ravens are certainly not one of the. We have a lot more to lose than gain with his presence

Some of the new posts I've seen from New members makes me think that other teams fans are now flaming our boards

Pretty sure he'd get broken in half with his drug habit/weight loss.  I'm sure this is the exact type of guy we want.

I'd say "most" instead of some but other than that, I completely agree with you

Wow, that before/after pic... very sad

Yeah phelps cleaned up some of the bad habits over time. You do realize that just a week ago manziel was still partaking in the same bad habits he got in trouble for in Cleveland.

There is no reason for Baltimore to have a conversation with a below average qb who is facing both jail time and suspension.

The difference is that Phelps was actually gifted. Manziel is not.

While we're at it lets sign Greg Hardy as well. Trade for Aldon Smith and our team will be set.

Lol get real.

Trade the house for Josh Gordon

And the best part is, its not a suggestion to sign him to be a QB... its for slot receiver, lol. That just gets me... the guy is terrible at the position hes played his whole life, but hes just magically going to turn into a slot receiver and be useful??

While we're at it, lets get Jamarcus Russell on the phone to play O-Line. I mean, he's big and was athletic so itll work. And the coaching staff is being silly by having Trent Richardson play RB while we have this hole at ILB... put him there - problem solved.

This is easy.... have a hole on your team? Take a raw talented player at another position who has flamed out of the league, bring him in to play at the position you have a hole even though he has no experience even if his skillset doesnt translate whatsoever and viola! Super Bowl here we come!!!

I used the position change item in Madden MUT and it worked wonders, so all our coaching staff has to do is use the real NFL position change item... makes sense, right?

I will take my boy Tim Tebow over Manziel any day.

Same here. Tebow at least has some redeeming qualities about him. Manzeil? The only reason he even got a chance in the NFL is because of Mike Evans making him look somewhat competent.

This actually might be the most ironic post ever.

The OP's name is "letitgosometimes". I couldn't agree more.

When the mere thought of Manziel being a Raven pops into your head, you should probably "let it go sometimes".

Just let the thought go man.

This type of thread is why I am GLAD the players likely never visit these boards.

You're trying to compare Manziel's "gifted athleticism" w/ the most decorated Olympian ever?

Come on man!!!

Michael Phelps also had his rough spots AFTER he had already established himself as a world class athlete and AFTER he had already achieved tremendous success.

Manziel hasn't done any of those things. He skipped the "take over the sport" aspect and went straight to the "rough spots".
