I got a question for Ravens fans about the Colts

According to Charlie Eckman He said Irsay maniplulated the owners vote against Baltimore expansion. He told those owners in a speech " Let me tell you something about Willie Donald Shaffer,, He's the same man i met 10 years ago and he hasn't changed,,When you stick a team on Baltimore I'm going tell you this,,You're not going to get anything from them,, The league isn't going to profit anything from Baltimore.

I will always have a special place in my heart for the Indianapolis Football Team for them not to do so well. A lot of the history of what happened has already been discussed so I don't really want to go over all of that in depth, just maybe a bullet points thing.

1) Baltimore knew that Irsay was getting ready to move the franchise. They were negotiating with him to keep the team in town, to buy him out. He wouldn't listen. The eminent domain thing was a hail mary pass last ditch effort to try to keep the team in Baltimore.

2) Baltimore was not able to keep their logos, history, or team name even though they petitioned the NFL to do so.

3) Baltimore should have received one of the expansion teams, in my opinion there should have never been a team placed in Jacksonville. Paul Tagliabue will always be remembered in my mind for his snarky comment after the expansion process played out, “...some towns are football towns and some towns are museum towns. I guess Baltimore is a museum town.”

4) Art Model was in financial dire straits. Cleveland found the money to build the Indians a new ballpark, build the Cavaliers and new ballpark, and to build a brand new Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but one of the teams that put that city on the map and had been there for 70 years couldn't get any money for a new stadium? There is some back and forth on this that Model himself has something to do with not receiving any funds from the city. I think it revolved around a renovation of the old Browns stadium versus building a brand new one.

5) The NFL had been using Baltimore like a red-headed stepchild for years. Teams would use us as leverage to get new stadium deals for themselves as they "threatened" to move to Baltimore.

6) Once the NFL knew it was really going to happen, they promised Cleveland would have a team again within three years. They were able to keep all their logos, colors, team name, and the history books. Some will say it was due to legal action on behalf of Cleveland, Model said he would have left that in Cleveland anyway.

7) Some of the other proposed names for the Ravens were The Block or The Baltimore Block in an effort to pay homage to the....how shall we say this..one of the more colorful parts of the city which might be known for having a lot of red lights. Another one was the Baltimore Bombers to pay homage to the fact that Baltimore designed and built the B-26 Marauder. I personally didn't care for either of those names.

So in closing, no, I am not letting the wound of the Colts leaving town heal. I have nothing against the players on that team and wish them no ill will. I don't even hate the city or the fans. I just don't want to see that Irsay family ownership see any success for their team.

It was a lawsuit that forced Modell to leave the name, history, and colors in Cleveland, not a gracious act at all.

Irsay & Modell are one in the same- they could give a rats butt about how they built their fortunes off of rabid fans. Instead, they flee for greener pastures and a sweet stadium deal.

Remember folks, Modell blocked expansion into St. Louis and Baltimore in favor of Jax & Carolina. We should never forget that, as it delayed football in Baltimore and we had the CFL.

The lawsuit had zero to do with leaving the history in Cleveland, that is another lie perpetrated by the people of Cleveland. The agreement had nothing to do with the courts. The NFL was trying to keep the history in Cleveland, something they did for no other franchise that moved prior to Cleveland and no franchise since. Modell agreed to do so, in part, because Baltimore wanted nothing to do with the Browns' history. Cleveland for their part, got to keep all their history and logo etc , got a new stadium paid for by the NFL AND got promised a team within 3 years. Again, something the NFL did for no other city of a team that was moved before or since.

Cleveland got a sweet deal and have no reason to complain about anything. Just ask all the other cities that lost their teams.

Pretty sure that was never even an option

After the move was announced as official, it was a legal settlement between the two cities that kept the name and history in Cleveland.  Also, Modell tried to buy the nickname "Colts".

He should have sued Irsay,,Because his dad promised if Baltimore got another NFL team he would give that named colors and everything back. Its Printed in the Baltimore sun. Because the city of Baltimore was going to sue Irsay and so Bob Irsay made a deal with the city. I learned this,Its called Breach of Contract. Its Printed in the Baltimore sun.

Keep it and hope it becomes worth something with time.

I can't imagine a Browns fan or a Baltimore fan that would get off big money for that.  It is tainted from either point of view.

That said it is WAY cool, and I would love to have one too.

Perhaps the Baltimore Sports museum would be interested in displaying it.

I'm not even saying sell it to a Baltimore or Cleveland fan, but I guarantee SOMEONE who is into football and sports memorabilia would pay a pretty penny for it.

Someone who lives by me in Blacksburg, VA has an original Baltimore Sun that has Cal Ripken's Iron Man Record as the front news and he's asking $25. I guarantee if you find the right person that you could be up in the hundreds.

I'll pay $10 for that Sun paper!  My wife's extended family is in Roanoke and we get down there a few times a year, I could meet the guy.  lol

Maybe I'll list the Brown's jersey on ebay one day to see if there is any interest.

I guess I'm saying,  it might have been an option technically,  I just don't think Art would of kept the same name moving to Baltimore.   Art did love that city

Its been 32 years ago since Colts left Baltimore. Do we still hate the Indy Colts or should we let it go and let bygones be bygones? I know these fans in Cleveland still hate us they feel Mr Model robbed them.

Wasn't born, so I have no feelings on the matter, though I understand the anger towards the Irsays. My dad lived through it and has since gotten over it, especially after the Ravens came to town.

Americans and Marauders were aweful too though. There were plenty of other horrible names floating around too.

Wonder if this was an option

One of the names was gonna be the Watermen. Could have been a cool symbol.

But Irsay didn't care about Baltimore. He loved Chicago though.
