Tucker is a keeper. Special teams comprise a third of the game. He'll be the difference in many close grind it out victories.

Well said. Besides, why not have one of the best at one of the lower cost and under-rated positions

Well, not completely true, especially when you take into the % of total plays ran in a game. ST's are not 1/3 of those plays. I would even say its not even 1/3 when compared to the O or D maybe closer though. NOW in skills and importance it is 1/3 of the game IMO and that may be your view as well..

Lets hope Tucker keeps his head down and stays humble.

Judging by the way he celebrated (buying turkey sandwiches for his family and in-laws), I don't think that will be a problem.

True, but if you look at the scores, I wouldn't be surprised if the kicker was responsible for roughly a third of the points - especially for low scoring teams. I haven't checked (yep, I'm lazy :D), but I can easily imagine it's the case.

Pennies ma butt! I wonder how he'll feed his family for the next 50 years off of 16.8 MILLION DOLLARS to play a game, especially when he eats out all the time. When you only actually play about 5 minutes in any game, I think that's asking a lot to be a multi millionaire. Maybe if we got these salaries close to "real world" salaries, we wouldn't have to pay Thousands of dollars to go to the games.

There is a major difference much more important than the $1M salary difference. I believe franchise tags are not guaranteed if you get injured. Kickers aren't injured all that often, but it does happen (and Tucker has been known to tackle). With this contract he doesn't have to worry what happens if he gets injured.

Franchise tags are fully guaranteed.

Agreed. The Ravens are just tight-fisted, and are always looking to get proven players on the cheap! Just ask A. Boldin. They signed an agreement, then backed out after they got what they wanted. All of a sudden, he didn't fit their picture anymore.

JUSTIN is a kicker#1 that adds 3 points to the scoreboard on a regular basis, automaticly, drive stalls anywhere inside the 40,put it on the board,#2 the games on the line from just about anywhere, who do you want up there, yes,MR. CLUTCH,#3 how many kickers you know that actually practices tackling angles? he's an extra safety out on the field on kickoffs,if you really think about it,he should be one of the highest paid RAVENS,one more thing, every year we get about 3-4 players to the PRO BOWL,guess who 2 of them are?TUCKER and KOCH.pay em both, also think about not being well known around the league for your kicker and punter.

I couldn't agree more- how do we give him less on one of the final go arounds of the contract- once his agent went public, it was embarrassing for our team, and they had no choice but to cave in. I also think bad cap management in the past played a part too- we're pinching our pennies still because we're still in a bind- yes, we have some money freed up with Flacco's extension, but we don't have a ton of money left- that's why we didn't make any significant signings during the FA period and may have overpaid on Weddle- only time will tell if he was worth the investment- personally, I think the team should be getting younger, not older- Watson was another example of signing an old FA. Then again, we have SSS, and he's almost 40..

KidNme- How do you know if he eats out all the time? These guys deserve every penny as elite athletes/ entertainers. If they don't get paid, do you think the team should keep all the money they make from broadcasting these games? You're being irrational

Yep. I'll never forget our 2011 chance to go to SB was dashed by our kicker missing a FG. Then next year we got Tucker.

I'm not saying they shouldn't get paid and never said that as a mater of fact. What I'm saying is they get paid way too much to play a game. Not irrational but realistic. What about the lower tier guys on the team? What makes their job any less dangerous but they don't make millions so as far as "deserving", that's the wrong word to use.
Think of the folks you have to depend on for you life and how much they get paid. What about Police officers, Fireman, Teachers etc. They are "Deserving". When you think of what they do for the world and what a football player does, the salaries are just plain out of hand. What about all the regular folks that put their lives on the line for their job. Oil rig workers, Deadliest catch guys, electrical lineman, the list goes on and on. Also, when a football player gets hurt, they have only the best doctors taking care of them, how's that HMO working out for the "regular people I mentioned, when they get hurt? I work 360 days a year too and football guys get several months off. Ya, they have to work out in the off season but so do I and I PAY to do it!

I was really hoping that what his agent said was just to get the ravens to act quickly and not make him play under that franchise contract. Glad to have him back where he belongs. Wouldn't want to see another Billy Cundiff . I would be worried every game that he would fail and lose the game for us. No worries with Justin.

Well kickers are only worth it if they have mental strength and display ability to forget bad kicks and move on.Tucker has shown that he can. However, with kickers it is hard to predict how things can affect them. It isn't as much about leg strength as it is about brain strength with them. So, there is always a risk with kickers and perhaps why it took so long to sign him up.

When contract talks are going on, you cant really take any reports at face value, you need context.  Like when they said we offered less...we most likely offered more guaranteed money with less year average or vice versa.  5 minutes before Tucker signed his deal most of us though he was gone after next year and was frustrated beyond belief with the Ravens, now hes here for four more years. Its context.....

The way i always look at a kickers value is by how many games he has won for us, and Tucker has won a lot of games, not to mention the game winner that really set the tone of winning the SB a few years ago.....Its a what have you done for me lately league, but i am betting on Tucker making many more GW kicks for us......

Tucker is worth his $. That is a fact. I wish him the best as I do all our Ravens.
