I got a question about Ravens players.

This in official ravens board right? Licensed by the NFL? My question is this..Do any of the players come here to post?

Some players read it. But do not post that I know of. Couple ravens  (maybe more)from the 2000 team keep up with it. I forget who it was but one former player mentioned it on the fan back in 2009 I think it was. I would guess at least couple former players post. But I dunno for sure about that.

Some players read here and some family members/friends of players read here or used to.

Think its ill advised for them to do so though with all the things people say here when their emotions run high which is a lot ......

A few years back a guy trying to make the team was actively posting during training camp.  Can't remember his name.

Steve Demilio! Someone made fun of him misspelling a word on Twitter and he came here and hit him right back with the sarcasm.

I'm Joe Flacco, I don't post much I mostly just down vote people who say I'm elite. I'm sick of that and wish it would go away.

We've also had player's family members post here, so we know they read.  That's one of the reasons we don't allow personal attacks on players, coaches, etc.. No one deserved to be viciously attacked on their employer's website.

He also expressed how grateful he was to have an opportunity to try out for the team.  He answered a few questions as well on here. It was pretty cool.

That is why the staff will moderate a post calling someone garbage-- K-dog is garbage would be moderated to say 'K-dog plays like garbage'  , semantics I know but no mothers son is garbage that plays for this team.  It's a game and I get into it to the point no one will sit next to me lol

I hope players don't read this, I would be ashamed of some of the things said here

I'm sure they're too busy being harassed on Twitter now.

I feel ashamed for people who follow an athlete on Twitter just to talk trash.

I find this kind of humorous, particularly because you already acknowledged that its semantics.

Its not "acceptable" to say a player/coach/FO personnel member "sucks", but it is acceptable to say that he should get fired or be cut because he doesn't know what he's doing. Just trying to understand how the latter isn't considered a "personal attack". To me, it doesn't get a whole lot more personal.

I've always found this quite hilarious...

Didnt Furstenberg post on here his rookie season?

I feel like i remember him making a couple posts early on in training camp. If it wasnt him, it was someone else from that rookie class.

We don't make the rules but are tasked with enforcing them, we usually have a telephone meeting before training camp make sure everyone is on the same page and if other issues come up I liaison with whom ever I need to.  It is never ok to  call another poster a moron, stupid and they don't know what they are talking about.  We have fans here from 9 to 80 something I'd be pretty unhappy if an adult cussed my kid out, we know who the kids are because parents fill out the COPPA forms.  My 6yo reads the articles with help.

Kids should have some sort of indicator or badge on their profile, so others know its them when they post... something to think about.

Bc we have some frequent adult posters, and uh, lets just say children posting wouldnt appear totally obvious or out of place in some threads. Knowing ahead of time would help distinguish, and im sure most would respond differenlty knowing its a child/young teen than they would assuming its an adult.

Right, but that's the point I'm making.

If I say "Moderator 2 is a moron", that's not tolerated. But if I call Eric DeCosta a moron, that's allowed under the rules. And its possible that DeCosta's family reads what I say and what others say about him, much in the same way another poster would, as they could easily be a poster themselves.

I suppose in theory we could all just chalk it up to "cost of employment" in that regard, but then shouldn't that criticism then end when the employment does?

Fundamental internet problem is this... you can criticize a person like Ozzie Newsome, who has accomplished more in his life than pretty much 100% of posters on here could ever even dream of accomplishing, and that's all within the "rules of the blog", but if you criticize some Joe Q. Anonymous poster who simply doesn't have the resume to make said judgments about others and is in no position to be criticizing anybody in a business he doesn't understand, that's considered a big "no no".

And that's where blogs lose me from a common sense standpoint. It would actually be quite refreshing to see a website that actually flipped that script entirely.

Actually, no.  You can't call DeCosta a moron.  That's too personal.  You can question his football IQ, but not his overall intelligence.  Same rules apply to everyone in the Ravens community.  We have removed a bazillion "morons" over the years and apologize for any we've missed.

Oh, and there are a million websites out there where you can post anything you want about the Ravens and their fans. This will never be one of those.

Right, but all you really are doing is preventing a specific word, not preventing the actual meaning behind the word. There's plenty of synonyms I could use that literally mean the same thing. And they will be fine to use. Basically a semantics argument at this point. No different than me saying "uneducated" (allowed) and "ignorant" (not allowed). Two words that mean the same thing.

Say what you will about those websites, which I agree are largely garbage, but at the very least, they hold every single person to the same standard of criticism, on both the giving and receiving end.
