Has Anyone Heard About Dan Brown Switching To Tight End?

8 posts in this topic

Per Jeff Zrebiec on twitter (on the Waller suspension):

Ravens still have Crockett Gillmore, Ben Watson, Maxx Williams, Dennis Pitta and another converted WR Daniel Brown at TE.

The last bit baffles me. Am I the only one who's completely missed any such news? Even the roster page on this very website lists Dan Brown as a WR...

Has any one of you known about this?

Well not hearing about that is probably news that he has not made enough plays to have a strong consideration for a roster spot. I wonder if the position switch was before the Watson signing and before the team knew about Pitta's situation. It probably took him a long time to gain 30 pounds of muscle without losing speed and that would be the only explanation to switch a position is to think you have a chance to win a roster spot. Makes sense with his body type to use him as a pass catching tight end out of the slot like we did with Pitta. I wonder if this was the team's Plan B if Pitta struggled regaining form.

Well, it could be - it's just strange then why nobody knows about it - and - I know I've already mentioned this - why even the official website of the Ravens doesn't seem to know about it (as here Dan Brown is still listed as a WR, while Waller is a "WR/TE")...

Well, this is a minor thing of course, the exact position of a guy who'll probably be happy to make the PS at the end of the day...

Although not officially reported in any capacity, it's been known for awhile.

1.  He updated his own Twitter bio to denote himself as a TE

2.  This article came out yesterday: http://cover32.com/2016/07/01/daniel-brown-changing-positions/

3.  Zrebiec has reported all offseason that Brown has spent all of his time with the TE group

While the site might not have it updated, he's a TE now.

I would not say 30 lbs. Looks as if he tacked on roughly 20lbs so far. His goal is probably 30 lbs which is really cool. Brown has more savvy and technical skill than waller. 30lbs of muscle will put him at 250-255 lbs at 6'5. This could really pay off for him and the offense if he retains his 4.55 speed at over 250lbs!! Because he is a very good blocker for a wr already. And at 255lbs with 4.55 speed and good route running and Savy ball skills to his routes he could rival Maxx for best young athletic TE on the ravens. Which would be very impressive cuz Maxx is a very natural catcher and naturally sudden smooth route runner that got in better shape and should be far faster than he was. I like Brown as a bulked up TE far better than Waller.

I see. Thanks for the info.

Where did Zrebiec report it, BTW? I'm following his twitter feed, but don't remember this mentioned there.

And anyway (and I'm not asking YOU of course :D) - why has it never been officially reported? Waller isn't really higher on the depth chart, yet his conversion to TE was one of the most covered stories of the off-season... I understand it if it comes at camp-time or during the season, when there are a lot of news to cover - but in the off-season desert, when a player getting a new dog warrants multiple articles on the team's official website...

It was on Twitter somewhere.  I tweet stalked him back during minicamps, and I think it might have been in reply to someone else - not necessarily a straight report from him.
