RIP buddy ryan

8 posts in this topic

Legendary coach and innovator of the 46 defense buddy Ryan passed away today. Rest in peace to a football icon.

The source I heard this from, by the way, Solomon wilcots on Sirius nfl radio... Have some respect and check some facts before you speak about a legends innovative contributions. A former pro nfl player and a long time analyst went into a 10 minute shpiel about how the 46 defense is called that because it has 4 DL and 6 more players on the line... How someone can be so ignorant and uninformed on the game they make a career out of is beyond me, and to get so in depth about something and be so wrong when speaking on the innovations of a legend, is actually disrespectful. I hope some light gets shed on this because football analysis and reporting is absolutely down the drains right now.

But back to the original topic... RIP buddy Ryan, and may your sons continue to carry your legacy of great and entertaining defenses.

Just gonna go off on a limb and say he meant four defensive lineman, but six players on the line total.

No. I listened to it. It was a long detailed explanation about how 10 players crowded the line and only the safety played back. He said almost those exact words.

No mention of Doug plank the SS who wore #46 who was the guy that buddy considered the key player in that scheme and where the name came from. Clearly he was talking out of his rear.

I don't know. Like I said, I didn't hear it, but I don't exactly think he's the best analyst out there.
