[News] Late For Work 6/22: Really!? Just One Raven On NFL's Top 100?

29 posts in this topic

Obviously some of Steve Smith's negative stats are a function of the QB that he had and at those times he was great in spite of them. Additionally, he is a player in a time when the rules changed late in his career to favor the WR. Some of these reporters who put some of today's young players and taller ahead of him like Julio Jones Antonio Brown & AJ Green are not judging using equalizing criteria. Anyone who can't see he's a HOF receiver needs to turn in their press credentials.

This "Five Returning Ravens On Roster Bubble" header is quite misleading. It should be "Five Returning Ravens On Roster Bubble According To Clifton Brown (Who's Been Quite Off The Target With Several of His Way Too Early Predictions In The Past)"

Sorry, Clifton, but this is the truth...

I would definitely pick the 2006 Ravens over the 2011 Ravens - not because the 2011 Ravens weren't good - but because the 2006 edition was better IMHO.

The 2011 Ravens had a very good D and a rather good O - the 2006 Ravens, on the other hand, had a quite servicable O and a hillarious D that was as entertaining to watch - and nearly as formidable to take on - as the legendary, 2000 D.

I am not going to get caught up in what a Steelers and Bengals reporter has to say about a Ravens WR getting into the HOF. I read PFT daily and that is written by a group of self-proclaimed Steelers fans that slam the Ravens at every chance they get. Jealousy rears its ugly head when it comes to those guys so I take it all in stride with reporters who are fans of division rivals. I think what Smith does in his final year (or two) will go a long way to determining his HOF status. People remember the most recent thing and if he can get one (or two) more 1000 yard season with 60+ catches, they can't keep him out. I just got done saying how this is a what have you done for me lately league. The top 100 is decided by a bunch of players who probably know little or nothing more about the players they are choosing than the average fan. They are caught up with all the media hype around players the same as fans do. Therefore, the Ravens left off the top 100 list do not surprise me at all. If we want on the lists (which I don't really care about at all), then we have to do better than 5-11. However, I don't remember anyone getting a Lombardi Trophy for how many people they have on the top 100 list (which is why I don't care about it).

#1 i agree SSS,got attitude but not the numbers #2 yes,i do agree STEVE MCNAIRS team was the best and he the best QB. besides VINNY TESTAVERDE,those two if in action as long as FLACCO would of by far surpassed him.#3 if the top 100 list doesn't serve as a motivator for our players, including FLACCO,I dnt knw what will.if talking makes you great, yeah, then ALI and SSS are great.

I think both the 2006 and 2011 teams were the best team in the NFL but came up short as McNair and the offense could not get a thing going against the Colts and Lee Evans did not hold onto the ball vs the Pats. Which of the two were better by comparison? Let's just say both would have won the SB if they could have made a few more plays in both of the disappointing losses. Can't wait for 2016 season. Lets hope we are comparing them to the 2006 and 2011/2012 squads.

Pretty much every year before 2011 our defense was stellar and a joy to watch and know its your team out there. Now I cringe just hoping these guys we have will make a proper tackle.

I remember when we had Steve McNair. As a offense we were obviously better than having Kyle Boller, but it just felt like we couldn't get to that point (SB) with McNair. I remember damn near every game we played. Up until last season I really never missed any game since I became a fan in 2003 at the young age of 12.

Give Flacco a guy like consistent guy like Todd Heap again. A LT like Johnathan Ogden. And a stellar defense again, and we are definitely SB contenders back to back.

Harbaugh has ripped this team of its talent and structure.

SSSr is a HoF'er. If you want to compare apples to oranges your gonna get things wrong. All of the "sure lock" HoF'ers mentioned have only played in the pass friendly offense. There is no way they are even as productive playing in older game, where defenders could maul WR's and refs not bat an eye.

Tim Brown did have to wait a long time. Seems HoF voters don't care to show much black and silver love. Terrell Owens was good, the first half of hist career, but that was also aided by having Jerry Rice opposite of him to draw the attention. At the end of the day the guy was more of an entertainer than HoF'er.

Harbaugh coaches the players Ozzie signs, Harbs isn't calling the shots on who we sign and what not. It takes a couple years to build a roster, and I think we are going in the right direction. We will be a force shortly, and that could be as soon as this season.

Despite the selection criteria being defined as the best 100 players based on next season's projected performance, I'm not surprised with the lack of representation given our year last year.

And I will never take Bortles, Carr, Smith or Dalton over our guy.

Still don't like your new format for the "Home Page", guys. Thats why I don't drop in as often. Go Ravens!

youre so right.. they ruined it trying to be sophisticated. go back to the normal settings and stop trying too hard

You obviously do not know what you are talking about. Harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the league. His record shows it. He motivates. Even in a year where we lost most of our starters he made these guys go for it again and again! They never gave up and imo it was because of him.

IDK why Ryan Mink is surprised we only have one player from last year on the list. Maybe he forgot how bad we were last season.

I'm sure you'll remind him.

I really like articles and news like this. It is building one helluva chip on the Ravens shoulders. That many times is the difference . .love it!

Who cares about the Top 100. You remember who won the Super Bowl. With that being said I hope the Ravens can give us another memory.

Agree. If the Ravens parted ways with Harbs he would be unemployed for less than a minute.

The NFL's top 100 is just a promotional stunt meant to hype up interest when nothing is happening on the field that signifies nothing. I ignore it and so should everyone else.

Agreed, more about reducing or avoiding us having a ridiculous amount of injuries like the last 2 years.

Well it was pretty painful. This is a new year and for now I have hope.

It was not our team for sure. The Broncos 1st round draft picks actually produced unlike ours the last few years.

Coaches have input in the players their teams pick up, especially long serving coaches like Harbaugh. Ozzie doesn't just pick up players and drop em' off for Harbaugh and tell him to make it work. If you want him to make it work, you'll have to get and respect his input about the kind of players it would take to make it work.
