NFL.com's David Carr says Flacco is Number 3 overrated QB

312 posts in this topic

David Carr, live on NFL.com said that Flacco is the number 3 overrated QB in the NFL because: even though his numbers look good, and he has the most top playoff stats, and a MVP superbowl ring....his play is mediocre..........WHAT????

Ah yes it's off season....release the media trolls....I guarantee that before the first preseason game all the "football analyst" will have the Steelers and Patriots as the AFC championship contenders.....here we go again!!!! lol

Damn don't they usually have Joe rated somewhere in the middle of the pack. Pretty rare when I see anybody have him in their top 10. Who are the two top overrated ones?

I think they already listed the Steelers and patriots as the top teams. Is all good thou, ravens seem to play better as the underdogs anyway

Flacco is Flacco and I would be willing to bet he does not lose a wink of sleep because of what some guy named David Carr has said about him.

Of course he doesn't care and neither should we

If the Texans knew who the most overrated QB in the 2002 draft was they wouldn't have been so bad for so long.

Irrelevant.  Analyst and even coaches can be good without having a solid playing career

Actually it's pretty unanimous at this point all the national folks put Flacco about a top 10 qb give or take one or two.

Don't really get the comment about Pars and Steelers as favorites?  Why wouldn't they be in that discussion.... perspective

I don't see why that should have any bearing on the guys opinion.

He should do a segment about most overrated quarterbacks coming out of college. He would be near the top.

So let's say Joe Montana makes the same list. His point is more valid why?

I agree with you but it sure would sound better coming from a guy who actually did something in the NFL. That's almost as bad as one of us fans criticizing an NFL player when none of us ever stepped foot on an NFL field to play.

Wait so your saying you can't criticize a player unless you played?

No what I am saying is its more credible coming from another player who knows what it takes to make the team and what it takes to prepare for the season from game to game. It's real easy being an armchair QB sitting in your den or at the local pub criticizing a guy and not having a clue about what he has sacrificed and how hard he has worked to prepare.  By the way Montana has been to a Super Bowl and has won a few Super Bowls so he would definitely be more credible at making this list than David Carr until Carr actually accomplishes what Flacco has the point is just another opinion and mute. But hey that's just my opinion ....

Well clearly I don't agree with the opinion but I can't get on board with this premise. Yes there are insights to be learned from guys who played the game but that alone doesn't make them a qualified analyst. Some are good at that as well and others not so much.

Your definitely entitled to your opinion so I guess were just going to agree to disagree.

Gary kubiak wasn't a good nfl qb. Bill Walsh definitely wasn't.  Are we to say their opinions on nfl qb play is lessened by the fact that they weren't all pro Qbs?

You're right, I went into a full rant about the Pats and Steelers, I was taking a jab at the national media with that comment and suggesting favoritism of some teams will "adjust" opinions about Flacco as a QB.  I guess I should have narrowed the focus there a bit, my bad :)

Great point but if you notice both of them finally found their NFL calling in coaching not playing QB. One was and one is very good at coaching. A good coach can make a legitimate argument either way that actually means something if your willing to put trust in what they are saying. Now to play the devils advocate How many times have you heard NFL scouts give poor grades to players or excellent grades to other players and be totally wrong about the player? and these guys are professionals getting paid to give their opinions. So like I said before some peoples opinions are worth more  if your trusting them and  some peoples opinions are nothing more than  an opinion at best.  In my opinion David Carr's opinion ranks about as high as Jamie Dukes opinion.

I wouldn't take away from a guy's opinion because he wasn't a superstar. I would however listen harder to Deion Sanders opinion about being a NFL star then Trent Dilfer's. No disrespect to Dilfer, but Sanders has lived the HOF track.

I wouldn't because as an analyst Deion is more about his friends. I also wouldn't value a guys opinion just because he's athletically gifted.  A guy suceeding in the league isn't simply because he knows how to analyze other players some are just gifted athletes.
