Let's root for Stanley to have the kind of year that Monroe had when he was at his best. To me that is Stanley's floor.

Stanley is as cool as a cucumber. The guy is not rattled or overwhelmed and that goes a long way with the psyche of a left tackle. After watching a number of videos with Stanley, he held some of the best pass rushers at bay while setting a strong edge and bulldozing people during run blocking. While I hear the pundits whining about left guard now that Monroe is gone and Stanley won't cut his teeth there, I guess they totally forget how many games Uershel has started and when Uershel was called on to move from guard to center, Ryan Jensen did a great job there. Add to the mix an Alex Lewis and anyone who talks about a weak guard position or cries about two unskilled players on the left side, they are ignorant of the fact that Uershel has started more games than Monroe over the last two year. How does that make Uershel a new, unskilled player at that positions?

Who is this "Uershel" you speak of?

Agree and think he could be the second best Left tackle this team has had. I hope he plays up to his potential. If he does he will be great.

I think Stanley will be a solid pick for us. Looking forward to seeing him this year and watch his progression. Always feel like players make a huge leap from year 1 to 2, especially after working in the weight room with our trainers.

I like Stanley and do think he will be a great LT after some time. I am hesitant to think this season will be painless though.

Jonathna Ogden who became a HoF LT was not deemed ready to start at LT from day 1. Stanley is being as they said "baptized by fire" and that carries a big risk IMHO.

I also wonder who the backup LT is going to be Hurst again? How do they tell Hurst they still have faith in him when they took him out of LT and pushed him to LG where he was vastly a better player?

Ozzie's management of the LT position has been poor for many years. He brought in Monroe trading a 4th round pick and paying a lot of money even knowing Monroe has injury issues. Then when the same continues he gets pissed off and cuts him? Look more dead money, and less depth a what he claimed was a critical position to address after singing Flacco to a new contract.

Question Ozzie: If Monroe's injuries or w/e else bothered you so much you cut him, why did you ever sign him in the first place?

This team's biggest issue that last few seasons has been dead money and he we go again. Granted Ray Rice incident was out of his control but still. Not looking as sharp as he once was.

Monroe was fools gold. He had played well under his first contract in Jacksonville and was considered at Top 10 LT when we signed him. Jacksonville had inside info that they would never reveal about Monroe while trying to trade him for picks, but it all makes sense in hindsight. I think Monroe checked out after he got his big contract. He clearly feels slighted by the way the NFL handles injuries and didn't feel risking his health was really worth it. His guaranteed money was enough to feed his family for generations.

This is the biggest risk you take signing/trading for a guy that needs his 2nd contract in the NFL.. I would rather sign an aging vet that loves this game and will fight until he can't go anymore. Eg. Mason, Boldin, Smith SR, Pollard, Dumervil, Daryl Smith, etc.

At the time that we signed Monroe, Ozzie's only other option would have been to give a big contract to Michael Oher who had been pretty terrible up to that point (countless false starts aside) and he then went on to be terrible for the Titans. There aren't that many options in free agency at left tackle and there's always a risk given the amount the position pays. That's why you really have to take your shot and get a top-talent in the draft whenever you're in a position to. Ronnie Stanley has the brain, talent and maturity that it takes to be successful at that position. Despite the talent of Laremy Tunsil, I wouldn't be nearly as confident in his ability to handle the pressure of being that high first round draft pick and starting week 1. You need the complete package when getting a guy at left tackle. Yanda and Juan Castillo are going to get him ready. He'll make a few mistakes, but clearly the coaching staff thinks he's a quick enough learner to improve on those game to game or they wouldn't have cut Monroe. I always trust Ozzie on this sort of thing.

not too worried about Stanley i believe he can handle it. He may not be JO right out the gate but he will be an All Pro.

Stanley Jensen Urschel Yanda Wagner. Looks good to me. The interior trio can generate a surge and intimidate defensive lineman,. And all of them are athletic with 3 cone and shuttle times better than 2/3 of the starting tackles.

This was my pick from the onset of the Draft, Stanley is worth the investment and risk. Sure there is risk in every roster move. Monroe was NOT a good risk, that was proven by his past 3 years with the Ravens. Its not like we just picked him up at the end of the year. Stanley is the starting LT and if that changes then the Ravens will have to make it work. Adjusting the roster is something that has been done in the past by every team in the NFL, it won't be the last if it happens that Ronnie needs another year to fulfill the potential. He is the now and the future.

As much as I like Urschel, even I have to admit that Zuttah is still by far the best C on this roster.

Zuttah is more established. Not better. Great teams trust their young players. And root for their young talented players to win jobs from mediocre and solid starters by outperforming them. That is how you get better and win multiple championships

i trust Urschel to be a great backup when needed. We all know that could be game 2 and surely root for him to win the job sometime. But until then, it's Zuttahs job by a landslide. Urschel has played in 10-15 games since drafted and at times struggled. To win multiple championships, you send the best 11 on the field week in and week out. Young talent can "win" the jobs of vets not have it handed to them. Aiken for example stepped in big last year and still finds himself in a pickle fighting for playing time. I root for him to replicate last year's sucess with the opportunities he gets but I'm glad he wasn't handed anything. Buck Allen played great when called upon "for a young gun" but didn't go gurley on anyone so he's still in the mix but still needs to fight for playing time. Same can be said of Urschel. Next time he gets playing time, he needs to win the job and keep it. As far as his play last year. He played well enough to get another chance. I don't think he played well enough to keep anyone's job.

1. Ozzie didn't know that Monroe had injury issues when he traded for him OR when he signed him to an extension. Why didn't he? Because Monroe didn't have any injury issues before.

Prior to extension, he played in 76 of 80 possible games (95%). By NFL standards, as durable as you can expect any player, regardless of position.

After the extension, he played in 17 of 34 possible games (50%).

So are you basically asking what happened to Ozzie's time machine? Because the only way you could have expected Monroe to have injury concerns is to use a time machine.

2. Dead money is a sunk cost. Its irrelevant to decision making. Fans harp on it without even knowing what it is. Players carry "dead money" regardless of whether they are on the team or not.
