Left Guard

My take on Urschel: First thing I noticed in his first game (other than he played well) was how he's built differently to everyone else, he's kind of built like a superhero with wide shoulders and narrow hips but thats why he lacks square up power in the trenches. It's the same reason Jason Brown was better than Chris Chester.

He has strong looking calves but could use more leg drive. But yet for a center very strong in my opinion. Over all great observation!! And word is he tacked on muscle

The thing you have to like about Urschel is he is an ascending talent, and that's always something I love to see. You can see he is getting better and better. I don't see him taking steps back, he just continues to go forward and is becoming a better player. That's what I look for in evaluating players. A good example is Brandon Williams, who also constantly improved every year he was here and now look at him. I'm not sure Urschel is some killer at center, but you can see the talent to become a top-10 player. It is certainly there that he could become that guy, although saying he will is tough to swallow.

As for Gillmore, who would you put above him? I mean, Heath Miller retired. Dennis Pitta is getting up there and we have no idea if he will ever be the same guy and even then he wasn't exactly the best TE in the league when he was playing. There are plenty of other TEs, but a lot of them at JAG, blocking specialists, or made of glass. Granted, Gillmore has injury issues as well, but your statement that he isn't a top-15 TE is a bit hard to agree with. I don't think I can say he is top-10, that seems a bit high, but he could arguably be top-15.

Pretty sure he meant outer harbor. And even his "connections" can't be that good

Yanda.

Debatable. Yanda - at least at the time he was drafted - had elite burst and great athleticism for the position. Yanda's first step is one of the most explosive and powerful of all offensive linemen. He's strong as an ox, too. Not many men can pancake Suh - Yanda has.

Thank you. Left guard is going to be jensen. It will have to be once he impresses in preseason

Barring injury, I see Urschel at LG to start the season.

Agreed. Its telling that even after putting Urschel at Center all last preseason and into the season when he came in for Zuttah, and Jensen playing LG once KO kicked out to tackle that they now have Urschel starting at LG this camp. That means something... no coincidence.

Urschels got it unless he falls off a cliff, or Lewis just blows people away.

Zuttah is a weak link of an oline with power

I agree with that... but i do think his communication is valuable especially with having 2 new starters on the line. Even if theres a bit of an advantage with Jensen or Urschel in terms of physicality over Zuttah, I prefer Zuttah this year for his experience. He's not great, but hes at least solid. And id rather have a known commodity this season, unless someone else blows him away.

I think when the defense is stressing over being mauled by the oline it breaks their concentration and takes them off their gameplan. The oline was much improved once Urschel adjusted to center. The oline was clearly more dominant than with zuttah

What?  I'm confused.  Did you quote me because of the forum or were you replying to me?  I don't follow the context here.

Some posts removed. So his response doesn't fit anymore.

@MathBomb I believe RAS is your system and I find it impressive the amount of time you put into your evaluations. What does RAS stand for?

Ronnie stanley is often called ''atheltic'' but looking at his combine :/ it's pretty horrendous really.. def below average in all categories..

it does however speak volume on his technique and awareness.

Since 2000, only ONE 1st rd OT who rated below 5.00 #RAS made a pro bowl, and it was Leonard Davis, drafted in 2001.Ronnie Stanley under 5.00.

How many OT outside the first round that rated below 5.00 on his scale became pro-bowlers?

I dont see what round has to do with it if we're talking an athleticism score...

The probowl is often about name recognition in many positions. Can't imagine many LTs ever make the probowl as a rookie (but I could be wrong)

this isnt about a rookie pro bowl, this is an entire career. Basically only two players have made a pro bowl that have below average RAS since 2001.

He did all of three drills at the combine, one of which no one even cares about for offensive lineman unless you run a Taylor Lewan type 40.

just saying based on those drills which were among the worst in his class and since 2001 just below average similar scored players don't become star tackles.

the two exceptions were leonard davis and michael roos. Sometimes you have to look at the evidence..

You all wanna hear what's funny? This guy (Kent Platte) invented that measurement in 2012 by himself and when I googled it, he was the only one making use of it.

The offseason seems to get slower every single year.

Edit: Even better; it didn't get finished until 2015

So, the underwear olympics are going to determine how he does in the NFL? Got it. I'll take that one to the bank.

Or maybe you're just trying to find the negative in every little thing you can.

A relative one that's arbitrarily based on his own relative thoughts of how grades should be based. Did you even look up what it all means or just pull that off Twitter?
