[News] Why Mike Wallace Thinks He'll Be Better Despite Less Speed

23 posts in this topic

The speedy receiver says he’s maybe lost a half-step since his time in Pittsburgh, but he’s learned a lot from facing top-notch cornerbacks over the years and feels he’s back in the right situation to make big plays.

"He needs to know those plays because, if fellow wide receiver Breshad Perriman is slow to recover from his knee injury, Wallace could be Baltimore’s lone outside speed merchant at the start of the season." Most proven speed threat yes. Only? No. It seems all of these articles about our "speed" receiver neglect to mention Chris Moore. Granted, I know he is "raw" and unproven, but he is a speed threat. You can't deny that from his numbers at Cincy.

Wallace has turned out to be a big addition... especially since Perriman has proven to be a slow healer. Perriman can now take his time and (hopefully) come back at full strength at some point in the future.

I don't understand the negativity here, it is just June. Moore hasn't even been in pads and has no history, at least Wallace has something to write about and that is what these writers are struggling with this time of year, is to find fresh material for the website. What do you want to write about Moore. He was fast in college, we know that. He is fast in shorts, we know that too. I doubt if many others could do better (if they could they'd be hired to write here). Also, its an article about Wallace, why take a jab at Perriman. I am sorry Crusader, but what purpose does that comment serve. When Perriman is blowing people away this year, I am sure the bandwagon will be full. Anyway, can you imagine a season with Flacco able to have Wallace, Perriman and Moore all able to blow the top off and you have the great hands of SSS and Aiken short and tight ends that are off the hook running the seam and making possession catches. While the rest of you wade in a pool of "woe is us", I am absolutely stoked about Wallace and our receiving corps and tight ends. That doesn't even bring into consideration what Forsett, Dixon and West can do catching out of the backfield.

I think the slow healer has been used a lot but I don't know how true that is. Perriman was given 6-8 weeks to heal from the PCL injury and he was on the practice field at the 8 week mark. Unfortuntely he aggravated the injury and by that time there was no real reason to hope was going to come back, so the put him on IR.

Agree - Also, the injury ended up being worse than they originally anticipated and I think he was just anxious to get back on the field.  If he'd waited an extra 1-2 weeks, which he'll have this time.

I'll remain optimistic about Breshad at least through this year.  He's had 2 bad-luck injuries after almost no history of them before.  He deserves a chance to prove every one of his doubters wrong.

Better than Perriman, at least Mike can still get on the field.

Hope Perriman makes you eat your words! Mike hasn't played a down for us yet either in regular season.

Even a half-step slower is better than the other receivers on the team. Add in his gifted hands and ability to get open, fight for contested balls, and YAC and you have a thousand yard season for Wallace. Welcome to Baltimore!

We all think that Perriman will be good when he finally gets on the field by mid-season, but Wallace is a proven star and arguably our number one receiver with Smith still nursing his injury.

His attitude seems to have changed from "I'm the fastest and the best" in recent years to "I'm not as fast so I have to work harder"

A healthy Perriman and a motivated Wallace should put fear in the hearts of secondaries around the NFL.

dont jinx it! Perriman isn't healthy yet.

It will be interesting to see how we utilize our WRs and TEs this year. Wallace obviously still has gas in the tank. We also introduced some new WR talent this year along with our existing talented TEs. Add that with year 2 of running Trestman's offense and, as a fan, I'm really excited.

We will need to wait for a few months to see if this pans out for the upcoming season.  Being out of the training camp might prove to be a lot for Perriman to overcome when he's finally cleared to play.  Let's hope that he can get on the field before November.

I have no doubt that Wallace is motivated. He spent most of last season trying to get those deep shots and had to settle for less. The Ravens will not shy away from throwing deep, especially with Flacco's cannon to deliver the blows.

What I especially enjoy hearing is how Wallace seems to be more even keel and understand the importance of hard work and the team. When he first left Pitts. I had the feeling he may have under valued those traits a bit. Either way, I think he has a great cast around him and that golden ticket he was asking for last season. Cannot wait to see him ball out period, but especially vs the Steelers.

Wallace has never been much of a short area quickness guy. And Perriman is kind of stiff in his routes as well. Not sure if he really will be ready week1. However Chris Moore has very underrated short are quickness. It was never used in college. His qb could never find him moving suddenly in short spaces. His qb could only hit him running in a line. Even then he waited on throws. Yet still moved suddenly in short spaces to snag the throws and accelerate. He roasted round1 cornerbacks having to wait on throws. When Joe Cool hits him in stride deep and over the middle he will show himself to be a legit all around we and a total steal.

Chris moore!! Only wanted quick when there was no options. I would of drafted moore,Mitchell Robinson to give the ravens an awesome young trio for years with #1 skill and potential.

Interesting.  you watch a lot more tape than I do, considering I watch none, how would you compare Moore to Torrey? I think we saw Torrey's ceiling here.

Wallace was a beast in Pittsburgh, hoping he also shines bright here. I believe he is in a good position to succeed here.
