[News] Late For Work 6/13: Steve Smith Strongly Defends Teammate Breshad Perriman

41 posts in this topic

We'll be fine at WR. Smith, Aiken, Wallace, Moore, Matthews, Reynolds, Camp, Butler, Clay and Brown aren't a bad group to pick from. There are not any available WRs that would make a significant difference if we add them.  Plus I'd rather develop a young guy than drag a Boldin, White, or Colston through the season.

I guess it depends on what one defines as a "bust". Personally, I describe a bust as an early draft pick who fails to live up to expectations as an impact player. It's unfortunate that Perriman keeps getting hurt, but the painful reality is that he has made zero impact since joining the Ravens as a first-round pick. Another painful reality is that things bode ill for any player whose most notable asset his speed, but who suffers a PCL tear in one knee, then an ACL tear in his other knee. Just a very unfortunate situation for everyone...

He is not a bust just sadly unlucky. He will get through this with support from fans(are you listening), teammates and family.

Let's committ as a fanbase to support and nurture Breshad Perriman through his partial tear. If you ask yourselves in the quiet of your minds, you know it wasn't really his fault. So why start branding him a bust, etc instead of helping him heal so he comes back better than ever. Life and circumstances are repeatedly testing him and he is at the precipice and cross roads at this moment. He can turn either direction and I think it's up to us as fans to help guide him to success. How? By not being critical senselessly and instead being supportive of his recovery.

Amen!

I am thinking that we have cap space and I would be shocked if we didn't add another veteran WR. On paper we look fine right now.

We have SSS (but he is in the twilight of his career and coming off a serious Achilles injury).

We have Camp (but he has never been able to stay healthy)

we have Mike Wallace (but he is / has not been putting up the Type of #s that we would want - Still a nice addition that fits Joes skillset - but we don't know that he can be dominant yet)

We drafted CMoore ( and while we think he has a lot of potential there is still a lot of unknown).

We have Kamar who we know can be adequate but not dynamic-in a passing league).

We have- We have Keenan but we really are unsure of what he can do yet. The other 3-4 would be in the same boat. (ST are where he will make his mark early)

The biggest wild card to be is Waller! He can be dynamic if he can take the next step.

I wouldn't be shocked to see another veteran in camp. If SSS would go down with another injury (and assuming Perriman will be out) it will look a lot like last season (CMoore, Keenan, Camp, Waller and TE's can all assure that it is not as bad) but we would be moving forward with a lot of unknowns again. IDK... but I would be shocked if Ozzie doesn't bring someone else in.

Colston would be ideal working with SSS and Mike Wallace. Very diverse skillsets, savvy WRs with a ton of experience and abilities. With a young crop of WRs developing behind them (CMoore, Keenan) with Kamar and Waller adding depth and balance. (assuming that Camp ends up cut). Colston would be huge and with our TE's to keep defenses honest - WOW.

Waller, Matthews, Butler, and others do not get me hyped up a little. Reminds me of Doss, David Reed, and Millette. If we can pick up a PROVEN veteran(Boldin) at the (Boldin) right price(Boldin) I say we get somebody in here(Boldin) who is DURABLE (Boldin) and "ONLY" catches 70 passes a year (Boldin) and is a PROVEN WINNER (Boldin). We have nothing to lose other than another team signing him at the right price and reaping the rewards.

That's a little unfair to Waller, Matthews, and Butler. We've barely given Waller a chance to play. And Matthews is a better version of Marlon Brown. And if Butler continues to get better he could become Aiken 2.0. While Reed and Doss were decent special teams players, but horrible receivers and Mellette showed potential, got injured and disappeared.

People seem to be forgetting even with Perriman out there is still a good chance those three guys aren't going to make the team. The roster is probably going to be Smith, Aiken, Wallace, Campanaro, Moore, Reynolds.

Also, if Smith or Aiken went down bringing Boldin in makes perfect sense, I don't know how much sense it makes to bring him in to replace Perriman. Years ago we had the Mason, Boldin, Housh experiment, and things didn't go that well, so why would we try it all over again in 2016. And, how much does Boldin have left? The last time I saw him play he looked tired and it seemed like he no longer had the drive to play.

There was someone who texted into 98 Rock this morning asking if they think Perriman is injuring himself on purpose. But this is the same kind of person that told me last season that Joe Flacco wasn't actually hurt. Because Flacco finshed that drive he know Joe wasn't really hurt and only sat out the rest of the season because he knew the season was over.

Ah, the good old conspiracy theorists raise their heads and scream their delusions...must be getting close to football time.

Last year he had 69 receptions on a BAD team so I'm thinking he's not that tired. Not saying to bring him in to replace Perriman. I understand he's not a stretch the field receiver, but simply a better option than a lot of the guys we have. Regarding Housh, Boldin, and Mason in 2010 we lost to the Steelers in the second round of the playoffs in Pittsburgh 31-24 so the season was not all that bad.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD why would we bring in another WR when that position was already over-crowded before Perriman's injury? Makes no damn sense!

Over crowded with receivers who have not proven a thing I'm guessing would be the first reason. Waller, Matthews, Butler? Do we wait to see if they turn into the next Tanden Doss, David Reed, Aaron Millette, etc?

Detroit meeting with Boldin. Guess they want to look at a guy who is DURABLE and a WINNER before another team signs him and gets his toughness and 70 receptions.
