Sounds to me like some people are going to need to set their alarms for 12:01 AM.

Wait, is this a countdown to Ravens kickoff or just regular season kickoff. If its Ravens we're off... If it's just season kickoff, well ok then.

93 Cory Redding days until kickoff

29_Redding_news.jpg

He was a really strong locker room presence and leader for us, underrated contributor as well. In my opinion, he's one of the main players in contributing to the family-like atmosphere among the players/coaches. He seemed to be a great teammate and is responsible for introducing the cornhole game into the locker room, I believe that has since morphed into ping-pong but, regardless, it gets players from different position groups interacting and bonding.

He was poached by Pagano after he left and the Ravens have tried to replace him and his presence for a number of years with guys like Marcus Spears, Chris Canty, etc. This seems to be the first year without a Redding-esque guy on the DL in some time, though I do think Brandon Williams has a similar, if not more extroverted, personality.

Hes the reason that I picked up corn hole which has since become a staple at events in my family. For that alone, Mr. Redding, I salute you.

The steady, consistent, high-level play without ever wanting the spot light or causing trouble was just a bonus. I think he was regularly under valued almost everywhere he went, and maybe even here until he was gone and we saw the drop off without him. I'll never forget that TD he scored against the Steelers... or how heartbroken i was when he went to the Colts of all places.

And he was still playing at a pretty good level for Arizona last year. Hope he gets picked up by someone who needs some Dline depth before the season.

EDIT:

I had not realized that the Lions once made Redding the highest ever paid DT in the league back in 2007. Crazy that theyd do it for Redding but not for Suh... though $49 mill and $100+ mill are obviously different beasts.

89 Steve Smith Sr days until kickoff

stevesmith1.jpeg

Toyed with doing Mark Clayton since everyone knows who #89 is these days but. c'mon, it's SSS. Ever since he got here he has shown the toughness, grit, aggression, and play-making to become a favorite and an obvious 'Plays Like a Raven' professional.

Though I am still New to football, he is and will always remain my favourite player ever. He just changed my way of seeing things. He doesn't just stands strong, he dominates through furiosity alone.

This guy was born to be a Raven. Shame he had to waste so many great years slumming it in Carolina. The things we couldve accomplished together.....

Im just glad hes here now and will end his career playing like a Raven. Love this dude, and he deserves to go out on top. Lets bring that ring boys.

88 Quinn Sypniewski days until kickoff

77116583-quinn-sypniewski-of-the-baltimo

Everyone already knows and loves the current #88, Dennis Pitta, so I thought I'd give a lesser known guy a shout-out. Sypniewski was a gigantic (6'6, 270+lb) TE drafted in the 2006 5th round out of Colorado. He was the same build as Crockett Gilmore with less pass-catching upside. He was a great blocker like Gilmore and actually had a decent 2007 season filling in for some injured players. Before the 2008 season, he tore his ACL and never made it back on the field.

I remember him well.

I remember his first catch.  About half the crowd yelled "Heeeeeeaaaaa......." and realized that was not Todd Heap.

Once realized a few in my section yelled "Suuuuuuuuup."

It never caught on.

87 Qadry Ismail days until kickoff

01-27-ismail-4_3.jpg

More recently known for being an excitable Ravens game radio broadcaster, Ismail was once a speedy deep threat, totaling almost 3000 yards in his three years here. Nicknamed "The Missle" along with his brother "The Rocket", his speed set him apart and he carved out a good career for himself. Sticking with my theme of lesser-known older guys.

86 Todd Heap days until kickoff

02chargers600.jpg

Hard to find another 86 to put in this spot because he was synonymous with the number and was probably one of the prototype 'Play Like a Raven" players. His toughness, longevity, production, and character (great locker room and community guy) earned him a spot in the Ravens Ring of Honor in 2014. For years, every one of his catches was meet with a chorus of "Heeeaapppp".

The play/game from this image was a week 4 match up that put the undefeated Ravens against the undefeated Chargers. There was a ton of hype for such an early game and the Chargers were seen as favorites - they had blown out the Raiders and Titans, then had a week 3 bye. In the final minute Todd Heap caught a curl route and dove forward to score the game-winning TD. The man failing to make the tackle was the hype machine known as Shawn 'Merroids' Merriman. That was a great play and a great game, one I won't forget.

No doubt that Todd was THE poster child for the phrase Play Like a Raven.  He played with a hard and relentless passion for the game and always displayed a true sense of humility. His stats could never show how great of a player he was or his value to the team. It's fun to imagine how well he would have meshed with Flacco prior to all of the wear and tear.

I miss Heap.........Can you tell?  lol

#86 Billy Davis had a couple of cool moments  for the Ravens, including 2 big first down conversions on the final drive of the comeback vs. Jacksonville in 2000.

One of my favorite RAVENS of all time.

I will never forget the game where he was tearing up the defense while enduring a separated shoulder.

If that is not hard core, if that is not team, team, team, if that is not

" Play Like a Raven "  then I don't know what is.

Yep that was the epic demolition of Texas Stadium in 2008

Love DMase, he brought swagger and carried the offense at times.

84 T.J. Houshmandzadeh days until kick off.

502853458_zpsom864abh.jpg

He needed a second jersey just to fit his last name. :)

Not the best receiver we ever had. Far from the worst.  I seem to recall a critical game winner in Pittsburgh.

That makes him a winner in my book.

84 Jermaine Lewis Days till kickoff. Will never forget the back to back kickoff returns in 2000. Also after his son died him returning the kick pointing his hand in the air for his son. One of the most emotional moments in ravens history he did it also in the super bowl.

That was one fun game.  All the stress endured the whole game ended in a bliss with that catch.  Great stuff.

Okay, this one is for Joey Flex.

Ya wanted a bad one? This is pretty bad.

83 Lee Evans days until kick off.

evans-drop_zpswit0kvso.jpg

Lee Evans came in with lots of promise. Made some good catches but was mostly underwhelming.

Unfortunately Lee Evans will go down in RAVENS history as having one of the most costly drops ever.

I remember watching this game in a bar on the side of a mountain in Ireland and being horribly drunk (been out since 2 pm GMT and this game finished at about 9:30 pm GMT) when that pass was played. I was inconsolable when Cundiff missed and just kept saying "32 yards....." on the way back to the apartment. It comes up every now and then and my girlfriend still gives out to me over it!

You should be drawn and quartered for posting this. What a terrible memory.... What the heck is wrong with you?  lol

Lee had a grand total of 4 catches in the 9 games he managed to suit up. And that wasn't only the most costly drop, it was THE worst play in the history of the team.

I was trying to appease Joey Flex.

It won't happen again.  I promise.

Yea you really dropped the ball with that one. You totally blew it. I thought you had in under control, and then it just got away from you.

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all night.

82 Torrey Smith days until kick off.

torrey_zps96b77cd0.jpg

This is just an awesome photo.

Additionally Torrey is scoring on the Pats.  Although I don't know what game this was so I don't know if we won or we lost.
Hopefully it is a step in the right direction to make up for my error yesterday.
Joey Flex, you left me hanging man....
