Actually stretching an opponents defense directly impacts the running game. Basically if you don't stretch the defense then they crowd the box and the running game suffers plus they send more pressure knowing they are unlikely to get burnt. If you can stretch the defense they must play accountable football or risk being burnt for long bombs for TD's.

I think the article should be renamed to "Ravens POTENTIAL to stretch opponents defenses again is huge."

It really isn't an ability until you can actually do it consistently on the field against other teams. Trying to make that assessment against your own relatively suspect secondary in practice is a bit of a leap.

We don't really know what a healthy Perriman is capable of because we haven't seen it yet. The same can go for Chris Moore. We don't know if Wallace is still the same weapon he was before he went to Miami or Minnesota. I firmly am a believer when I actually see it.

There is a lot of banter about whether the run sets up the pass or vice versa. I think you slam a team with a ball and when they creep up you then go deep if you can. I agree that having speed on offense definitely helps, but speed alone won't matter if the guys can't catch or run routes. It has to be effective speed.

Historically we've had a good ground game when the line is healthy and so are the backs. We haven't really had a good deep threat game since we had Torrey Smith AND Jacoby Jones in his one good year with us.

So yeah, the potential is there. If it can be realized this is going to be one heck of a season for the Ravens and could be a start of something really good for years to come.

I'll be scary if we put all three of them on the field at the same time. Joe would be licking his chops. LOL ?

Having all this speed will also help our defense. If you can practice against speed then you wont be as surprised when it comes flying at you in a game.

I still think Ravens football is about the ability to run the ball. If the run game is good , then the defense is rested, the passing game is setup, and the Raven are more efficient in the red zone. Trestman needs to have balance and the Ravens can waste the first part of the schedule to figure that out.

But if you can get the running game open, the defense may bring more guys in the box, which therefore opens up the deep passing game/play action. Both go hand in hand. If you can run the ball, it will open up the pass and more big plays. If you can stretch the field and hit some big plays through the air, then the running game will get going.

Honestly, I just wanna see us have a good balance and keep Flacco upright.

Many people don't realize how good Wallace will be. He was a great deep threat (probably better than Torrey Smith) with Ben in Pitt. He went to a couple bad offenses and suffered........now he's back with a deep thrower. Wouldn't be surprised if he scored 10+ TDs this year. I believe he was once the fastest player in the NFL and he's still only turning 30 this year.

I hope he is still that guy, but guys don't get faster when they get older. We'll know soon enough if he still has those jets.

I hear ya but if ur the single high safety, do you focus on the young extra fast but unproven guy or the semi fast vet receiver?

The wide receiver group is loaded with talent. There is a great mix of youth, experience, pure speed guys and possession receivers. IMO we keep six: Smith, Aiken, Wallace, Perriman, Moore and the wild card will be Waller (he's too big and fast to give up on yet).
But the overall passing game will benefit greatly by a really good TE group. Watson, Gilmore, Williams (and Pitta if healthy) would be amazing. Keeping 6 WRs will allow them to keep 4 TEs.
All of this is predicated on these guys being healthy. Smith, Pitta and Perriman need to prove they are healthy.
I also like this kid Dixon to complement the passing game out of the backfield. He was special in college and looks like he'll find a way to get on the field judging from his performance in OTAs.
Since we seem to have a pretty good offensive line, my guess is Flacco has a record setting season. I just hope Trestman knows how to get the most out what appears to be a really talented offense.
There is every reason to be cautiously optimistic right now about our chances this season. I think the front office has made the right moves to put us in a position to have a very good season.

"Loaded with Talent".....No......"Loaded with Potential"....Yes. Our leading receiver last year was a guy that literally would not make the team on half the squads in the league.

As far as Flacco now having deep threats...he had guys open deep last year, but somehow was underthrowing them. Either his touch was off or his arm is not what it was four years back.
