Ravens Comeback Player of the Year

33 posts in this topic

I believe I saw this topic in the mailbag today and listened to Mink and Garret discuss this. Kudos to the person that asked the question.

But I didn't see a topic on the news forum and thought it be an interesting one.

So, who is your Ravens comeback player of the year? I want to say Suggs or Flacco, but I think Steve Smith Sr. is going to have a stellar last year working the slot.

Smith Sr. would be an excellent choice for not just the Ravens, but NFL CPOY if he has a year like 2014

Hell.  If he finishes the 2016 season like he started the 15 season, I'd pretty much say it's his.

If Pitta makes it back and returns to form he may be considered the NFL comeback player of the decade.

No kidding.

His was an injury never seen in football, only in violent motor vehicle crashes. That's why people have such a hard time believing it might be true. I'm really pulling for Dennis this year, wouldn't that be something?

Well, we aren't short of candidates. I doubt Flacco would qualify, but if SSS, Pitta, and/or Suggs return to form they would all be deserving for NFL CBPOY

For Ravens CBPOY, I'd include those players and add Camp, Monroe, Elam, and LT

Forsett.   Barring injury I see a 1k yard rushing season,  but with our crowded backfield I know it's a stress.

I'd probably guess Flacco or Sr. for it. I just don't know what Suggs is going to be next year. Perriman as my wild card pick.

If Pitta plays for us, he would get my vote.  Otherwise it is Perriman.

Technically,  Perriman was never "here" in the first place so not much to come back to

Technically one catch would make his comeback a success

My point exactly.  He has no where to go but up. ( hopefully)

Funny thing is, I don't think we should really consider him.  When I was thinking about the injuries, I was like, damn, old rb coming back from a season ending injury...  then remembered it was a broken arm.  He should be fine.  Would like to see one of the young guys step up and prove to be a "feature back."

If there is one player I would never doubt is Steve Smith.. It seems the more people doubt him the better he plays. 36 last year and was on pace for 1500 yards and the only other wide receivers close at the time was Keenan Allen, Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and DeAndre Hopkins. He also missed a game during that span and played through three games until eventually tearing his achilles. Having him will be more of a threat than Boldin was in 2013 that will open up the younger guys of Mike Wallace, Perriman, and Aiken. Also don't forget we have a trio of amazing pass catching tight ends in Gillmore, Maxx, and Watson. Steve Smith makes so many clutch plays when we need. One of the most underrated guys in the NFL. And we have been paying him only around 3 million a season. Think of that production we are getting while others are paying 10+ million easily for wide receivers in a season. If he hits 1100 yards this season he will be top 5 on the all-time receiving list and he will never get the credit he truly deserves.

If Steve Smith is having success, that means Flacco is having success. At what point does Smith Sr. get the nod over Flacco for CPOY?

I think SSS gets the nod just because everyone expects Flacco to comeback and be himself, SSS with the age + injury is more of a spectacular comeback.

I think the prognosis for a drop back QB and a WR are totally different with these types of injuries. While Flacco's knee won't be as severely put to the test as SSS's achilles simply because he's a receiver that needs to cut, accelerate and jump a whole lot more than does a QB. So, just based on that if all things are equal, SSS will get the nod.

Agreed! and I definitely wouldn't bet against SSS

Lot of great choices but this would be the nobrainer.

Wrong.  SSS was having plenty of success last season and Flacco wasn't.

Lol I guess SSS was throwing and catching the ball himself then. Without turning this into a Flacco debate, I would like to say he was on pace to have his best season statistcally.

To my original point and I think most posters understood what I meant even if I worded it badly, if Flacco throws for 4000 yards but SSS has say 1000 of those yards. Who would you give the nod to?

Let's take Flacco out of this then.  When Calvin was putting up monster numbers I guess Culpepper, Kitna and Dan Olovksy should have been winning MVPS as the Lions went 0-16?  A wr having a great season doesn't equal the qb having success.  I hope you remember this the next time you're quick to judge Dalton.

And wasn't he also on pace to throw the most picks in his career as well?

Going outside of the box with: Monroe. Wishful thinking has him coming in healthy, helping Stanley learn the ins and outs of a NFL lineman. Having him start and finish all 16 games would be a huge accomplishment, as he's gone 11,11 and 6 GS over his 3 years with the Ravens. As I said, it's wishful thinking.:baltimore-ravens:

Good pick.  His success would hopefully mean a great deal of team success.

I hope it is so hard  on the guys who vote on this simply because everyone comes back healthy and 100% ready to go. Then the team can possibly be back in the post season and possibly be considered the come back team of the year.
