[News] NFL Ruling: Ravens Lose One Week Of Organized Team Activities, Fined

35 posts in this topic

i love it when management breaks the rules and gets caught, ah it's no big deal. We'll get over it and did i hear Harbs mention 'God' in relation to all this...C'on man...if a player had caused these penalties and fines he'd be in very deep doo-doo

Never been a Harbs guy. He appears to believe he is above the law. He will have his feet put to the fire, if things don't take a big turn this season.

Benjamin Watson, the teams union represenative, advised the coaching staff that they were violating the rules by requiring the players to dress in pads for a special teams workout. It's assumed that he notified the player's union, which in turn notified the league office.

Yes, players will be allowed to privately work out at the team facility, but may not interact with the coaching staff.

So.....that brings up the question, is Ben Watson now persona non grata at the castle? Basically, the "Snitch"? And furthermore, what if any, implications will that cause him either in the locker room, probably not much, or in his treatment by the coaching staff? And also, should say Pitta emerge as a player this year, does that phone call push him out, of course nobody woukd say it be because of said incident? Thoughts?

Watson will be our starting TE this year, barring injuries. I think this is a non-issue, although there could be some hard feelings from some of the coaching staff, but I wouldn't expect it to interfere with playing time. Especially if Watson plays like he did last year. Performance will always trump personal slights, especially in professional sports.

As for team mates, we really don't know how this all went down. For all we know, there may have been half a dozen players coming up to Watson asking him if this was legal, and if not that it was his job as union rep to complain to the coaches. We don't know. I seriously doubt any other player would hold it against him for abiding by union/league rules.

And if Harbs wants to put him in his "doghouse", then that's his decision. Probably a pretty risky one if Biscotti comes around and asks why our newly signed TE that we went out and spent a lot of loot on is sitting on the bench.

Whether it was a blatant attempt to sneak a padded practice in ? Or it was just a misinterpretation of the CBA ? It is what it is and you deal with it.
If a Union Rep sees something that is wrong..... and reports it ?
That's his job.
They lose 3 practices , that are Non-Contact practices. It is what it is.....and you deal with it. Same as they dealt with the NFL and the Hurricane Ike Fiasco and damage to the Texans stadium back in 2008. They took away a Week # 9 Bye and made both teams play basically ..... a 14 Straight Week schedule.
I didn't see that as the NFL looking out for Players Safety.
I hope a lesson was learned, in this case.

Whatever.....

The NFL has done us wrong a zillion times and all we got was an admission of guilt. Not even an apology. Its gonna take a lot more than 3 days of practice to even sting the Ravens. Now let's use this to get pissed off and make every other practice count!

Sometimes injuries could happen due to fatigue. Harbs needs to preserve the team. There have been too many practice injuries.
