Best Ravens Starting Lineups - Draft Edition

26 posts in this topic

I saw something similar online and it got me interested... put together your best Ravens starting lineups on offense and defense (include ST positions if you want) using only players drafted or UDFA signed by the Ravens.

Heres mine:

OFFENSE

OL: Ogden-Grubbs-Mitchell-Yanda-KO

WR: Torrey Smith, Brandon Stokely

TE: Todd Heap

RB: Jamal Lewis

FB: Le'Ron McClain

QB: Joe Flacco

DEFENSE (4-3)

DE: Suggs, Boulware

DT: Ngata, Williams (run downs)/ Art Jones (passing downs)

SLB: Jarrett Johnson

MLB: Ray Lewis

WLB: Adalius Thomas

CB: Chris McAlister, Jimmy Smith

FS: Ed Reed

SS: Dawan Landry

ST

K: Justin Tucker

P: Sam Koch

RS: Jermaine Lewis

Whats yours look like and where did I mess up?

I feel Bart Scott needs to be there.

yea... i was deciding between Scott and JJ for SLB. Felt JJ was better at taking on blocks and that Ray and Adalius would be able to clean up and tackles and coverage so I valued that over more of an all-around game where Scott is clearly superior.

But, Scott is probably the better choice if im honest.

Jamie Sharper gets some consideration too.

Is this each player in their prime or during their ravens career?

I focused more on overall, but it can be whatever you want it to be.

I would take McCrary at his best before his knee probs over Suggs. And SS Woodson. Call me crazy but running back I like priest holmes. Interesting you have stokley. I agree actually. But I'm not restricting to ravens draft picks. Taking Samari Rolle as well. Strong side backer I'm taking adalius. And  weak lb Bart Scott. Won't be long Will Henry will be a starter as all ravens team

It was for players the Ravens have drafted. McCrary, Rolle and Woodson weren't drafting the Ravens.

I don't think Johnson works as a 4-3 linebacker. I'd definitely put Mosley at that spot over Johnson. And for the o-line, I'd have KO at LG and Wagner at RT. KO and Ogden side by side would be dominant. Plus KO just seems to play better at guard than he does tackle.

I'll take Jamie sharper at WLB all day.

Also, something just doesnt feel right about Williams at the 2nd DT, there's gotta be better ones. Personally I think jernigan is more dynamic but he needs to show consistency, also dwan Edwards was quite underrated in his time here and put together some good years in buffalo after he left.

Oddly, the ravens track record of DT is kinda bland, a few contributors but only one lights out stud in ngata... That just doesnt sound.right lol

Something about KO at RT doesn't sit well, but I can't think of a better one.  Statistically, his rookie season at RT was basically almost every Oher year.  Don't know if I could put him over Grubbs at LG either so he likely wouldn't make my list (if I had one).

I like the rest though.  It's a shame what WR options we have.

I think my list would actually be the same, but I'd go with a 3-4 defense, keep all three DTs as the D-line (from left to right, Ngata, Williams, Jones) and then add the all four LBs 2006.  Actually, it'd be the 2006 defense with Jimmy in place of Rolle, Williams in for Gregg, and Jones in place of Pryce

Yeah I think He stands out above Williams unless we're talking about a true NT. He was a solid 2 gapper and had a nose for the ball and could knife gaps really quickly on occasion for surprise plays. Not flashy but if we resigned him I think He would be a lot more highly regarded for us.

Honestly forgot about him until you brought it up... but i agree he probably should have been the pick. He was a very good all-around guy. very solid, steady player that can do a little bit of everything. definitely doesnt get enough credit.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Boulware never played D-Line ? He played SAM. It was like the beginning of the hybrid role played by Suggs so I don't know if late in his career he played some hands in the dirt rusher.

I remember playing with him in Madden OLB Blitz was so OP at that time I was able to get 10+ sacks/game lol

That's because he was our anchor at DT for a decade. You didn't need another monster next to Godzilla

In 2001 the Ravens had a number of injuries along the line and Boulware moved to DE to make up for that. It was also the year he put up 15 sacks since he was just rushing the passer every play.

Seeing Torrey Smith and Stokley as the best WR's is just sad.

I fully expect Perriman to pass them as the best WR drafted by the Ravens.

Perriman being had at 26 will be viewed as a steal.
