The talk on the radio is if the Ravens are rebuilding or reloading. I think three reloading gone out the window after the 3 subpar drafts. Ravens are behind schedual for that. Ravens darn near lost both games to the so call terrible Browns.

I could somewhat agree with you if I didnt know about our injuries last year...Yes we lost games to subpar teams last year , but for crying out loud dude, we lost Flacco, Suggs SSSr, Periman, Forset . Monroe, Zuttah, Davis, and a few more, you can honestly say with a straight face that the injuries didnt cause our bad play last year..
Yes we are reloading,, C-MON Dude get serious......

The season was over before joe. Seams when just Suggs went down Ravens struggled with teams in the rebuilding phase. I guess I keep thinking were in the same sand box as the Patriots and Bengals.

Yes. People like to forget that when Joe went down we were 2-6, esentially all but mathematically out of playoff contention.
We will never know how the seson wiould have been if instead of the cheaper option in Babin Ozzie accepted Freeney's high salary demands.

Crap I forgot all about that great Babin move. Would you like to be in the room when that decision was made just to see who even thought of it?

My take on it is that Coach Harbaugh probably gave the ok. Remember Babin made his name as an Eagle.

It doesn't change the facts of the case but it does affect the punishment phase. Punishment should fit the crime. Five minutes in pads which you then self-correct when this is pointed out by your own team should be punished far differently than a full session or sessions in pads which is caught by non-team members. Judges understand that and rule accordingly. The NFL's leaders past performances in administering punishment in similar events shows they are inconsistent, incompetent and even corrupt at their core. The league needs help here. Why don't they reach out for it?

Here's the problem...

How does it benefit Goodell or the owners to outsource the punishment phase? What exactly would Goodell's role be if he has no authority to punish people based on the rules he makes? If you were him, and you were appointed to enforce discipline, would you want some outside panel that has nothing to do with your business whatsoever making similarly arbitrary judgments that undermine yours?

Or better yet... which one of the other major sports organizations allows outside council to determine punishments for their players? Does the NBA do this? Does MLB do this? Why is this now all of the sudden simply an NFL problem?

The biggest irony to all of this is... the PLAYERS themselves already told us they don't care that the Commissioner has all this power. They made that very, very, very clear in their last CBA negotiations. The reason its a big deal NOW is because the most high profile of high profile players is involved in this. But at least 95% of all NFL players will have zero interest or impact in the Commissioners punishment powers, because they'll never once be under that umbrella.

That's the biggest knee slapper of all of this. When Drew Brees walks out and says that Goodell has too much power, he's one of the guys that was at the head table to give him all that power. He only cares NOW because its affecting people he didn't think it would affect. He thought the discipline policy was only relevant to Joe Q. 6th linebacker who the team would just cut anyway.

This just goes to show what a poor job Ozzie Newsome has done since the retirement of Ray Lewis. While his signing of Daryl Smith was ok as a stopgap, he has had years to get someone else ready and has done nothing to address the linebacker issue everyone in the world could see coming. Arthur Brown? Seriously? A guy who couldn't even crack the starting lineup is now supposed to plug that gaping hole? Zach Orr? Who? With linebackers aplenty over the years, he has instead chosen busts like Elam, Cody, and don't forget the immortal Kindle. Great Oz my eye. He is the reason the Ravens have no defense.

Would you please give me a break.  You're going to blame Ozzie for not being able to predict that Kindle was going to crack his skull falling down some steps.  I'm pretty confident Kindle would have helped out a lot if he didn't injure himself.

Except having dominate linebackers (especially MLBs) isn't a requirement or even a necessity to win in this league anymore. This ain't 2000 anymore.

If you or anybody else was expecting us to replace Ray Lewis in the next 30-40 years, that's a YOU problem, not a Ravens problem.

I'm not worried that Brown hasn't started for his first few years. He was behind Daryl Smith and C.J. He has now had enough time to build up his strength and experience so that he should be ready to start, if he ever will. If he can't then it was a bust pick. I hope the Ravens felt he was ready which caused them to release Smith. Only time will tell. I don't think Orr or McClellan are the answer to anything. We will have to bring in a veteran and then use a high draft pick next year.
I'm also worried about the OLB position. Too many question marks. Will Suggs be recovered and ready to play at his previous level? Given his age it is very questionable, Does Dumervil have another year left in the tank? Maybe. Can Correa play well at this level this year? Who knows? Maybe. Will Z. Smith follow up a pretty good rookie year as a 3 down starter and replace Upshaw in setting the edge? That's a tall order but possible.
For the first time in decades our linebacker group could be considered a weakness with more questions than answers. Only time will tell.
But the biggest problem facing this defense is who will be the on-the-field leader that can stimulate a performance that is greater than the sum of the parts. This is what we lost when Lewis retired and why we haven't been a dominant defense since. We just lost our swagger.

The bottomline as I see it is the Ravens have to give Arthur Brown a fair chance to succeed. The reason we traded up to get him in the 2nd round is because our scouts and front office believed he had the talent to be a very good ILB. So, there could be two other reasons why he isn't suiting up. One, he has a difficult time understanding our defensive scheme and overthinks his role and therefore plays and reacts slower than needed. Two, he doesn't put in the work that is needed or perceived by Harbs to be needed and therefore is in the Harbaugh doghouse and isn't being given a chance to be on the field and produce.

Well, the way I see it, this is his 4th year coming up. One he's surely picked up on the nuances of the defense by now and if given a chance will be playing fast and furious. Two, if he is in the proverbial doghouse, the fact that he is been sidelined since he was drafted would have taught him a lesson, enough that he'll be motivated to work hard and produce.

So, I really expect to see Arthur Brown given every chance possible to line up next to Mosley. This isn't about Orr at all. We've seen he can be effective, but he isn't a star in the making and we need stars in the making. Art Brown has a chance to be that guy.

Yep..this his time to shine. No more excuses, He should be game ready. I hope the Ravens think he is and that is why they let Smith go. If not then letting Smith go was stupid since we'll have to sign a veteran to play next to Mosely.
