That sucks to hear. The saints just can't have defense. I thought he was one of the standout players in that game.

Yep, Brees is probably just hoping for March 2017 to cash in one last time with a contender. I imagine if Brees leaves, Payton will be gone and it will be a house cleaning in New Orleans.

If I'm the Broncos,  I give the saints a call and see what it takes to get him...

This is going to be something to keep an eye on. Vance Walker on Monday, and now Gary Kubiak said DE Derek Wolfe left practice after rolling his ankle.

Why would you think the Saints would fire Payton? Or do you imagine he'd resign?

Probably a first or second rounder.

For one year?

Try to lock him down for a few years.  With that defense, that WR group, i think Brees there would make them pretty great on both sides of the ball.  Obviously would depend on the money.

The Broncos would also need to clear about $14 million of cap space. An extension would wreck them long-term as any money they wouldn't clear this year (and depth they lose) would be kicked down the road on a 37yo QB. And cost them depth down the the line.

Ah,  I wasn't sure of their cap situation.

Yeah, they've got more space than I thought but they need as much of it as they can get if they plan to keep using it on defensive players.

Well, let's say they give up Lynch and next year's 1, that would clear some space as well.  But it's all off topic

Injury news from tonight:

- Bears QB Connor Shaw suffered a broken leg in the game against the Chiefs.

- Colts CB Darius Butler left the game against the Eagles on the second Eagles possession with an ankle injury. Colts already are without Vontae Davis until October and Patrick Robinson has been dealing with a groin injury. They did sign Cromartie last week but he did not play.

Things get worse for the Colts who saw their offensive line struggle against the Eagles. They have now lost Left Guard Jack Mewhort to a torn ACL for the year making their offensive line even thinner than it already was.

Andrew Luck has got to be cursing himself right now. The combo of Costanzo-Mewhort-Kelly looked like it would be good.

Was talking with a nurse about the seemingly increase in Achilles injuries and she pointed me to this.  Of special interest are the last two listed. I can understand why steroids would cause it, but the antibiotic link was a shocker.

Factors that may increase your risk of Achilles tendon rupture include:

  • Age. The peak age for Achilles tendon rupture is 30 to 40.
  • Sex. Achilles tendon rupture is up to five times more likely to occur in men than in women.
  • Recreational sports. Achilles tendon injuries occur more often during sports that involve running, jumping, and sudden starts and stops — such as soccer, basketball and tennis.
  • Steroid injections. Doctors sometimes inject steroids into an ankle joint to reduce pain and inflammation. However, this medication can weaken nearby tendons and has been associated with Achilles tendon ruptures.
  • Certain antibiotics. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro) or levofloxacin (Levaquin), increase the risk of Achilles tendon rupture.

Definitely shocking. I had to google it a bit and found this:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/11/01/fluoroquinolone-antibiotic-side-effects.aspx

from that article:

Quote

Fluoroquinolones are among the most dangerous drugs on the market and should be avoided unless your life depends on it. Despite their dangers, they're the most commonly prescribed class of antibiotics in the United States... In 2010, Bayer's top two fluoroquinolones (Cipro and Avalox) brought in $1 billion in sales.

That same year, Johnson & Johnson sold $1.3 billion-worth of its drug, Levaquin. All antibiotics carry a risk of side effects, but fluoroquinolones are in a class by themselves when it comes to potential health risks.

and among side effects:

Quote

Musculoskeletal symptoms in 73 percent of patients (tendon ruptures, tendonitis, weakness, and joint swelling)

and that's the least of trouble it can cause.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Teddy Bridgewater's knee injury was "gruesome," and that his teammates were "disturbed and horrified," with some even throwing up.
