Ravens being investigated for putting players in full pads

134 posts in this topic

The NFL is investigating the Ravens for putting players in full pads at rookie minicamp.

Using full pads at rookie camps violates the CBA. A Ravens official told ESPN "there was a five-minute period on May 6 when rookies and first-year players suited up in pads during a non-contact punt protection drill." The Ravens "immediately pulled players off the field" when union rep Ben Watson informed them of the potential violation. If the Ravens are found to have violated the Collective Bargaining Agreement, they could risk losing a draft pick and/or be forced to pay a fine.

I'll be surprised if we're fined a draft pick. This says we immediately pulled them off the field. Doesn't sound like anything happened. The NFL should investigate, though, since something could've happened. If we did immediately pull them off the field as this states, then I don't see any fine.

I could see a minor fine, but losing a draft pick would be way too harsh, especially considering we immediately pulled players off the field. There were no intentions of breaking rules.

Should we act like Pats fans?

It's somebody elses fault. The NFL hates us. Were were set up. No one knew that they had pads on. The weather made our jerseys puffy so it looked like we had pads on.

Yeah I feel dumb.

We made a mistake.  Own it.

Losing a draft pick for this would be hilarious. I will be furious if we do because my god. I can live with a fine. We broke the rules, but not in a major way. But holy crap. A DRAFT PICK? No.

We will take it all the way to the Supreme Court.
( sorry, still in Pats mode )

I first read this an hour ago on Profootballtalk.   To see that Harbaugh had to be informed by B.Watson it may be against rules then confirmed its against rules.  Even if it were only 5 minutes, this isn't Harbs first year under these rules, why didn't he know this already?

Yeah but what if Ben Watson (a vet) wasn't at the rookie practice, they would have more than likely practiced a lot longer than 5 mins in pads. Someone on the coaching staff or a Ravens employee familiar w/ the rules should have warned the coaches about this.

I agree with that. I think another team did this last year, though. I don't think they were fined a draft pick. The Ravens shouldn't need Watson to enforce the rules, however, and with that I agree.

The Seahawks violated a contact rule four years ago and only lost 2 mini camp practices and got a fine. Two years later,in 2014,they violated contact rules again and only got a bigger fine and lost two mini camp days again for that year.If we do receive a penalty,I'd be shocked if it was any bigger than that.

My fear truthfully is losing a draft pick. Imagine a Robert Kraft sitting by idly if we aren't penalized however trivial the infraction may be... I'm worried.

I see no lost draft pick,

but why is HARB even being in that position,

he is a veteran coach ,

as a head coach should he have known or not known

so why?

Not sure how we aren't aware of that rule, but it shouldn't be a big deal and hopefully the NFL doesn't make it into one.

Thank you for this. Let's take it to court as fans while we're at it because my kid is disillusioned and I've lost sleep due to stress. How dare the NFL.

If we were Patriots fans: THERE'S NO EVIDENCE! The film could be doctored! What about the gas law? The drop in temperature could've caused the pads to magically float on to our players shoulders. This is a witch hunt! Goodell is out to get us! What about when the Houston Oilers cheated in 1968!?!?!? This is unfair, Bischotti should take them to court!

Ravens Fans: Rules are rules, we have to take this one on the chin.

Cannot stand the flippin' Pats... whole organization top to bottom. That's a must win game this year, even if we finish 8-8 I'll deal with it if we take the Pats down!!

This is just another b.s. witch hunt from the nfl because everyone is jealous of us.

Also the ideal gas law clearly shows that players without pads will appear to be wearing pads in 60 degree temperatures in the weeks following Prince's death.

Thank you. If that is precedence for a similar violation, then I don't see us losing our compensatory pick.

Dumb rule, period. If we lost a draft pick I would seriously start a petition for the removal of Goodell, the guy is a clown.

We won't lose a draft pick, don't worry. Will be in the realm of a fine and loss of a few practices

The Ravens broke practice rules in 2010 and lost a full weekend of OTA's. Not a big deal for the veterans, but that's valuable practice time for the rookies.

I refuse to believe that Harbaugh wasn't aware of these rules. Just not a good look on his part, but also not a huge deal.
