The real question here is, what would you guys have given up for Clowney? Hahahahaha

Ray rice and matt elam or the one of the cheerleaders that did not make the cut. Actually if he would work he could be really good. He is as raw as a round draft pick/athlete

A fair amount. Talent isn't the issue, at all; it's only health

That is s good point. I remember myself and a few others had Mack over Clowney but that was not a popular opinion at the time.

I think most would agree Mack was more ready, but Clowney had the potential to be everything Mack is and more

Clowney did. But you can't ignore super talent and refined football player for super talent that was very raw. To be honest I bought the clowney hype before even watching him play.  But when I saw how raw he was I was convinced Mack was the better player. And I believe everybody here saw it. Mack played with stunning refinement, explosion, athleticism,  intensity, power and sheer violence like never seen before. And I do believe he is on the same level of Watt or better by midseason. Clooney has a ways to go with technique and passion before he is even an honorable mention. I would take  Kony Ealy before Clowney. He is more skilled in some 5 facets. But I would trade our round1 pick for Clowney and let Harbs Watson and the vet's coach him up and motivate him to work hard and learn his trade. Considering he shows he can avoid injuries this yr.

Nothing. lmao you could tell he was a physical freak, but that was about it. A hype train 100% I remember Ray lewis on draft night saying over and over, if I were the Texans, I'd take Khalil Mack, he is going to be a force. Boomer and co. said he was crazy, but fast forward and even though it has only been two seasons, Clowney has made a 5% impact on defense where Mack might very well be the top defender after Watt.

Hmm I'd give up a later pick for him in the future if the Texans gave up on him, such as a second rounder, but I feel that this year is a slight make or break for him because if he doesn't stay healthy and show progression, the team will sour on him and his moral might take a toll, especially from being in Watt's shadow

Just after the 2013 draft, I recall saying that Clowney was overrated but talented. I personally didn't like him and I'm sure some remember that--mainly those who played our draft game that year. I questioned Clowney's work ethic since before the 2014 NCAA season started and I took some heat from a few members, one in particular, for my negative take on him. It should therefore not surprise anyone then when I say I wouldn't have traded up for Clowney. I liked Mack better, and that's not with the benefit of hindsight.

That said, I loved Louis Nix and thought he would've been a beast for us. Nix never panned out, so this goes to show how just because you're right about one guy doesn't mean you're right about all. The 2014 draft had excellent prospects. It was really a strong draft. Hopefully Jernigan, Brooks, and Gillmore become elite players in their own right. I'm also hopeful Mosley improves in coverage.

Good post dude!! Regarding nix, I never liked him as the awesome young Vince wilfork. I believed he was miserably overrated!! To be clear, in my opinion he was being touted and played out of position. He weighed 350lbs but was not a 2gap nt. His frame was not in the area code of the elite NTs that cover 2 blockers. He did have impressive short area burst and bend for 350lbs. He should of cut to 305lbs and played a penetrator. Not sure his burst could of been like Will Henry's but that was his best shot at success. He should never of been cast as a NT!! That was incompetent of the peeps that touted him as a nt. He was a ridiculously overweight penetrator. Not sure would of excelled there as well but more ideal for him.
