The Ravens have had good luck with guys like this.

Josh Wilson was an average corner in Seattle that was traded Baltimore, became a quality starter and earned a big contract in Washington.
Cary Williams was signed off of the Titans squad, was a starter for two years and left to get paid a lot of money to play in Philadelphia.
Corey Graham was only considered a special teams player in Chicago, but when Webb got injured Graham took over and he played an important part in the Ravens beating Denver in the playoffs. Then he left to play for Buffalo.

Let's hope Powers is another average corner that can become a star in Baltimore.

On a side note, I can't believe there is no mention of the Ravens releasing Marlon Brown, defensive end Nordly Capi, safety Nick Perry, and defensive back Jermaine Whitehead, to make room for Powers and draft picks Stanley, Kaufusi, and Reynolds. I know a lot of people like Brown, but I think it's time for the team to move on without him. I am actually more surprised the team let go of Perry before the preseason started.

This guy appears to be better than all those guys.

On the surface he definitely seems to be, so I kind of have higher expectations.

He might easily be back later. Or, if he isn't, he probably didn't show enough development on the PS... We don't know - they do :)

Yeah, i know, his name was just the name that stuck out to me. From what I read there were a lot of positive reviews and someone brought up the idea of using him the safety/linebacker hybrid position, like the guy in Arizona plays. But that might have just been someone just trying to come up with something to write during the slow part of the offseason.

Always good to have competition and depth at any position and Powers seems like a solid guy however, it depends on for how much. Both Arizona and the colts have a better CB now that he's gone I would imagine, otherwise he would still be there so I'm not thinking he's any more than depth at this point. Also, can we get a CB over 6' for gosh sakes??

Colts have Vontae Davis and who?

Arizona has no idea who they're going to replace Powers with, except maybe Tyrann, but he's pretty committed to playing safety.

its not that hard to look up peoples' depth charts.

Didn't make anything up, just my opinion which I stated clearly.
Also, would a team let a player go (Not traded) if he was better than the guys they have? Just makes sense to me, not a fact, just makes sense to me. Powers is no longer on other teams depth charts so that's a moot point.

I like the competition aspect of it, but for insurance alone if Jimmy cant go its a smart move. That being said, if one or both of our new draft picks is clearly better, you play them. I want the best we have back there, not trying to make somebody wait, just cause he's not a vet.

Not to say I don't like the pickup, but we can bring the players that actually played well in Baltimore. Cary Williams started to make plays during our playoff run actually he was all in position just never turned his head around in time leading to him knocking down passes instead of getting interceptions. He finally escalated his games in our system (not the Eagles), and we don't bring him back to Baltimore. I know I may catch a lot of heat for saying this but can we check into a deal with Bobby Rainey at RB. He was a shorter faster Ray Rice and is not starting due to the depth at RB for TB. He made headlines in TB his first year, and last year was only second to Doug Martin despite the offensive line. He just got picked up by the Giants... I'm a little baffled as to why we don't bring in talent that has played well for us in when they become available just saying. If you can't get Ray Rice get the next best thing that may have been potentially better.

He better study tons of film on AJ Green, guy burns us every game.

I would much prefer the offense staying on the field for long drives to negate players like AJ Green. Even with the best secondary players, he'll still make plays. You can only limit him.

We are on a mission this offseason and it all started with the decision to change the Field, Expanding the Castle making a room just for injury prevention, Hiring an excellent trainer and coaches, An exciting FA and at the very least a Solid draft.

Now the first step in the 2nd half of the Offseason has been made and I absolutely love the signing, he will come in and compete from day one. I see him winning the Slot position and upgrading our already impressive secondary. One of the best things is he will allow our rookies to get a year of learning before being thrown out into the battle.

Now call me crazy or for thinking we have made some amazing moves and yes it would of been nice to keep K.O or sign Ramsey and Jack. But I'm extremely happy with the way our offseason has went and think its the most successful one we have had in a long time, in every aspect of the game.

Oh by the way....I heard Ray Lewis was looking for a job and personally I think Assistant LB coach sounds real nice for right now, Coaching up our guys every day would be a dream come true..

I agree with absolutely everything you said except the idea of the great Ray Lewis sitting back as an assistant LB coach. I don't think that's appealing at all. If we ever bring Ray Lewis back he'd have to be the LB coach with the promise that he's next in line for DC.

You're assuming there that no other team takes salary cap or anything into consideration. Otherwise we would never have allowed players like McPhee or Kruger, or Torrey go. Just because he was let go doesn't mean they wouldn't have confidently started him if he stayed.

Welcome to the Flock J. Powers! The Ravens need to chill on the blitzes for a minute and rush five and spread the field! This will get more sacks and INTs! Big ben waited on the blitz and the Ravens shut them down! THIS OUR YEAR!

You cant trade a free agent.
"Free Agent" means no team has rights to you.
they didnt let anybody go, he wasnt theirs to let go in the first place.

Yeah, because Jimmy's obviously the only corner going to cover AJ, and of corse they won't ever play zone coverage.

I love it. ILOVEIT!

Our CB depth is finally where we need it to be. A top 10 shutdown CB in Jimmy Smith and 4 mid round studs battling it out for two starting spots. Just a few years ago we had 2 injury prone guys backed up by a bunch of late round and undrafted talents. I agree. This could be a great year!

We have great competition for playing time all over the place and great depth everywhere. The only position that hasn't been addressed yet is ILB and that so uncommon territory to us Ravens. But at the pace we've been going this offseason. I'm sure we'll have a quality guy starting alongside Mosley and good enough depth to offset injuries;)

This looks like a no-brainer on paper. If people return from IR healthy we will have a very good, deep secondary. May be the writing on the wall for guys like Elam that just haven't performed up to expectations. Should be some great competition which will make us a better team.
I wonder if Powers performance before and after his injury was significantly different.?

It should've been all along. When Green burned us it's when Jimmy was on the other side of the field. It's NO reason Jimmy isn't following him all over the field. NO REASON. We've been burned what 3x because of that?! The game plan for Jimmy should be following him every where. Don't let him leave your sight!

Don't get excited. He gets burned by the top WR's when he doesn' t play deep. Solid in the dime. Camo PJ's.
