Good signing imo. Now lets wait for a Training Camp cut for a speedy coverage LB. there's not much on the market right now

Wasn't tavon drafted to play the slot? Along with it being arrington's best position ?

Yep and yep!

Makes you wonder how a rookie feels when the FO brings in veteran competition at your position.

Haven't we had depth problems at CB for a long time?

I see this as another opportunity to draft a player and let him sit on the bench ala tray walker , Arthur brown etc

That's a long time on the bench for Arthur Brown

Or it's just being smart and signing a decent player at a position that we're incredibly shallow at.

Powers is the same size as Young, i dont think he will be fighting with Wright nor do i think he will battle with Young. My guess is Powers will man the slot until Young is ready to step in, so mid season

Called this one back in November, well said it wouldbe a realistic pick up.

Regardless, a great addition to the team! Welcome Powers!

Decent depth guy. Wasn't he the weakest link on Arizona's defense last year?

Well when you are part of a secondary that includes TM and PP, I can see it.

Decent players don't wallow on the market for months typically especially cornerbacks

I think it's a good signing. He'll help push Davis, Young, Arrington and even Wright. Nothing wrong with good competition.

I wonder if the Ravens had a verbal agreement with Powers that they'd sign him after May 12th. They obviously had a plan to go after him and a 1yr prove type deal with the Ravens Defense isn't bad.

Hopefully even more motivated.

Nice pick up. Has had great coaching and is solid veteran depth on a shaky squad. Thinking Webb is going to be fully committed to S.

I honestly would have liked to see The Ravens go after more of a outside cornerback but Powers adds solid competition/depth  . Powers does has experience playing outside corner but just like Kyle Arrington he's better in the nickel. The Ravens in my opinion have plenty of options at nickel corner from Arrington, Young, Brooks, Webb, Levine, and Elam but how many other options do they have at outside corner other than Jimmy Smith and Shareece Wright whom are the starters may I add.

Tavon is more than just a slot cornerback. He can cover outside as well. He may be designated at slot but ravens will learn he can play outside as well as slot. He is just a touch behind vh3 as best smallish cornerback in the draft.

Unless he's known for months that we would sign him after May 12.

They do when they want more than teams are willing to pay and it's pre-May 12th. Arizona was interested in bringing him back and the Giants were also in on him, just were waiting for the comp pick period to end. If you don't think Powers is at the very least a "decent" player I don't know what to tell you. Was good enough to start at CB2 on a stacked Arizona defense, the Cards just have young corners ready to play like Bethel and opted to go in that direction. Powers said after Pat Pete and Bethel had offseason surgery his phone started to ring from the Cards but he opted to sign in Baltimore instead (guessing he felt slighted by Arizona early in FA)

I expect Powers to compete with Wright, he's not a liability on the outside like Arrington. While he may not be a super ideal outside corner I think he's proven he can hold his own outside. Wright has some serious competition on his hands with Powers and Will Davis for the CB2 spot, he's going to have to beat them both out in camp and I'm not sold on him doing so right now. Powers is more battle tested and comes from a great defense, Davis is more talented but still raw. It's definitely going to be interesting battle to keep an eye on.

I actually agree. Look at Jason Verrett, dude is every bit as small frame/height as Tavon. If you're technically skilled and have the athleticism to compensate for size there's no reason Tavon couldn't end up playing on the outside.

Powers is a decent CB.  Ideally, he's at the back end of your depth chart, but he's battle tested and can come in and play some reasonable football.  He can play in the slot or on the outside.  If he wins a starting job, so be it.  If not, he's very good depth for a team that has been bitten at the position as hard as we have.  He's not a superstar by any means, but he's a serviceable CB and I think we've seen that we should never pass on one of those.
