[News] Late For Work 5/11: Early Look At Ravens Defensive Depth Chart

29 posts in this topic

Sorry about posting it here - but we still can't place comments for videos (like some time ago) - these "first look" videos of our rookies are good - but couldn't they be a little longer? 30-40 seconds, a couple of moves... they are not really informative... They are like one spoon of soup: even if the soup is great, you mostly end up with the feeling of how little it was...

agreed! I see highlights, then decide to walk and it is just a tiny clip of a player wrapping up a sprint or stretching. We want the good stuff!

I have personally tweeted Garrett about this very issue and the response I got was he likes the idea but his hands are kinda tied...

I have the same feeling. Watching players tie their shoes and run a 3 second out route in slow motion is not really showing anything. I would rather see tape with like 10-15 plays even if it doesn't show them making unbelievable catches. We know players won't make several jaw dropping plays a practice but it seems like first look videos don't really show enough information for the fans besides that they are alive on Earth.

OK, since it seems it's not only me who finds these videos a little too short (thanks for the feedback!), I've opened a thread about it in the Forums.

Yeah,I really like Victor Ochi but he is going to have to be super impressive to make the final roster. barring injuries, the numbers just don't work out well for him. He may be one of those guys that need to also excell on special teams to make the cut. I hope he can do it.

I think Willie Henry is another guy who's going to have to really make a statement to get a roster spot. The D-line is really crowded with young guys who are just now showing their skills. Again, it's a numbers game and no one can predict injuries. Another player who I think needs to show value on special teams.

Biggest issues for me Remain..ILBr beside Mosley..Orr,Brown not sold on.
Ozzie go get somebody...maybe hes going too

And CB Depth..need a vet..Leon Hall is available, just a name to throw out..
Definitely think 1 vet quality CB Short

The Ravens traditionally keep their rookies, so its really the players that's on roster. You either make the roster or your on the practice squad... If ILB is bad I'm going to look back at Myles Jack and Reggie Ragland and think about Ozzie Newsome selection to take a OLB that won't start this season. Ozzie to say you were surprised to have all your picks on the board with maybe the exception of Dixon is laughable. When you have the no.6 pickin each round your player should be there. Ozzie, Ozzie, your picking high up buddy stop talking like you were drafting 26th overall each round. We could have settled for solid backups in positions we didn't neeed starters. Which realistically we did. Love the Ravens franchise, but whenever we have a problem, We tend to go out in the draft and over compensate instead of being visionaries and progressing our team along...

Leon Hall would be a great addition for several reasons. Would love to see us make that move!

I also think that Arthur Brown is going to surprise people this season. I am looking for a breakout season for him. Looking forward to seeing him in the starting role beside CJ that he was intended to play!

I really like the fact that we picked up Cannaday. He was labeled as being soft but no one questioned his ability, technique or athleticism.... He has the tools and the size to make an impact and I think with a little work... he can become a big contributor in our defense.

At least 2 deep at every defensive position except CB and ILB.... I see Ozzie making a few more moves. (hopefully he addresses both). I would love to see us that deep everywhere (and BTW the Offense may be able to say the same thing). We will have depth at QB, RB, WR, TE, G, T and C....

(as of right now we seem to be 2 deep everywhere - the only exception that may come up would be at T and that is only if we let Monroe go... if he stays we are at least two deep there also but I really believe we will let him go post June 1).

The more I learn about him, the more I like him. I don't know how he got labeled "soft", but some of the tape i've seen of him he tackles like a beast! With the CB position so thin, if he can look relatively decent he might make the roster just to have some depth, but i'm hoping he can contribute on special teams and earn his way.

Tomorrow is a possibly a big day for signing free agents.

Quote

NFL free agency began two months ago, and it hits a big day this coming Thursday, May 12. That day is the date in which free agent signings will no longer count in the comp pick formula. That date used to be June 1, but the NFL bumped it up to May 12 last year.

First a 30 second 'trailer' and now a 6 minute clip? And we have to wait for more of these tiny clips? Seriously? Just give us video content BR.com. It really shouldn't take too much work to make up 30 minutes of rookie videos a day does it?
I understand there is a lot of editing and production cuteness that goes on, but really? The draft was held on the 28th through the 30th. We are 11 days into it, and we have had minimal content on our draft picks. We have scoured the internet and shared it on our board to the extent we can, but, we need fresh content from the here and now.

Confused. I don't recall a lot of video from rookie camp in previous years, why the demand for it now?

I know it's a slow time for news and video updates, but what exactly are you expecting from only 2 days of rookie camp?

Now when OTAs start in 2 weeks, it will be interested to see how they match up w/ the returning vets.

Stanley beasting vs the rookies is one thing but let me see if he beast against Z. Smith or other vets.

As a web developer I have noticed that it appears all of the NFL teams sites including the NFL site itself are run off the same platform. This is most likely the reason why such changes are not so straight forward to get done.

Maybe the videos are a bit short from time to time, but sometimes the best way to get through the slow times is by creating some excitement to look forward. Teaser content is everywhere, and without it you would only here about when things happened and not be aware of what's going to happen.

It is obviously working since you are asked and left wanting more.

Agreed. There's plenty of video clips of our rookies playing in college, I don't see the need to show us un-ending footage of some glorified practice. It's like the NFL combine: mind-numbingly dull, and really doesn't serve as a proper context to evaluate players. Once the actual training camps start it will be interesting to see them put through their drills against veteran competition. Let me quote Iverson: "Practice? You're worried about practice?" I'm glad people want to see how the rookies are doing, but it does seem a little overboard.

Well it would have been nice seeing Breshad Perriman doing something last year.

Definitely need more help at corner, but somehow I think the ravens will be fine at middle linebacker even though there's no reason for such speculation. I feel if the Ravens aren't good at anything, they are surely good at drafting and signing middle line backers and linemen. I'm sure they'll reach into the ground and find something at middle linebacker, at least their track record says they will.

I think the "hype" on the video highlights they've put out so far is a bit much. "The Best of ...." And more than half of the "highlight" is a guy running in the open field in slow motion, smacking a pad around, and then MAYBE you see a play or two.

Really? That constitutes a "Best of?"

Because he plays a mile off of his opponent because he's afraid he'll get beaten deep. That's called "soft" coverage. Not that the player himself is soft. He's not slow, but he's not really all that fast. He has good size and skills, but for him I think it is getting him his confidence back. A worthy "take a chance" pick.

Brown has had a few years to show us something and he remains at the very bottom of the depth chart. There is a banner in the Baltimore draft room that we were told about, "The best indicator of future behavior is past behavior," something along those lines. I don't think Brown magically becomes a player he hasn't been for years now.

Correa will see significant playing time behind two aging pass rushers. We don't really know what Suggs will look like coming back from yet another Achilles tear.

Stop it with the whole "day one starter" nonsense. The Ravens got some quality guys that have the potential to start in the near future.

I think at Safety, Weddle and Webb seems like the best choice. However, I am hoping Brooks can step up his game this year, he showed some pretty good skills before his injury.

Also, I ignore everything ESPN does pretty much. The only reason they post this absurd power ranking is to appease a large Steeler fan base (rating boost) and throw a slight at the Ravens. GO RAVENS! 25

You got that right. I'd love to see their "rationale" for putting the Squealers at 12-4.

They think their offense is gonna be unstoppable this year for whatever reason.

I treat power rankings like I do draft grades and pre season stats. They mean nothing.
