[News] Late For Work 5/9: Early Look At Ravens Wide Receiver Depth Chart

Agree with Clifton Brown's assessment for the keepers, subject to change based on players like Camp who have the injury bug following them. Marlon Brown and the others mentioned are WR's who may get picked up by another team come roster cut time.

I think they really need to ease SSr in slowly and hope he is ready for a late season run.  With that injury, he might be extremely slow at getting back to his normal playing style, if he can completely get back to it.

Can't say I agree at all with that WR prediction. We can't keep reserving a roster spot on Camp, he's proven time and time again that he can't be relied upon to stay healthy, it doesn't matter how good you are when you're on the field if you're never on the field to begin with, same thing is happening with Monroe at LT except he's proven so he won't be cut this year. I say Camp has a better shot as getting a spot on the practice squad and if he can stay healhty he can have a shot next year, or get called up at some point this year if need be. Considering Reynolds situation I think he'll probably spend year 1 on the practice squad, he's got potential but he's learning a new position so I doubt anyone will snatch him up if we try to stash him. SSS, Perriman, Aiken, and Wallace are locks, after that I really only see us holding on to 2 others - Moore and Butler. With so many players with talent battling on the defensive side of the ball - especially at OLB - I have doubts about whether we'll hold on to 7 WRs but if we do my money's on Matthews to make the cut, proven contributor on ST, which is valuable since we let Trawick go in FA, and his height provides a weapon in the redzone.

Provided Perriman can take the field.

I personally wish the Ravens would stop with Campanaro. He's injury prone and barely even good. I hope Chris Matthews or Jermey Butler get their last shot at it. I think there may be some potential there.

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest Campanaro fan. However, IF he stays healthy I can see him making the final 53.

He's very dynamic and quick in open space and he's an asset on ST.

Smith, Aiken, Perriman, Wallace, and Moore are locks barring injury setbacks. Campanaro needs to prove he can stay healthy. Reynolds needs to prove he can field kicks and punts live in games. As for the rest, it all comes down to how they do on special teams. To me, the two real x-factors are Darren Waller and Kaelin Clay. Both proved their worth on special teams last season. Clay is the kick returner until he is unseated. If Waller is pushed out at TE because of the numbers, he could still earn a spot at WR.

the silver lining regarding all the injuries to the WR corp last year, is we got to see all the guys on the roster get playing time, so we no doubt have a much better idea of what type of talent and potential we have going into camp this year....I would like to see Matthews and Butler get a lot of PT in the pre-season games, i think both of them have the skills to be able to step in and contribute if we get hit with injuries again.....Also with all the post draft cuts i hope we can land a veteran ILBer......

Waller is switching to TE,honestly his best shot at making the team, and would no doubt be a nightmare for LBers trying to cover a TE who ran a 4.40.

With SSS playing his last year, i think at least one WR finds their way on IR to protect him for next year, if we think he would be scooped up if waived....Going to be a crazy camp, with five 4th round picks, on top of our 1-3 picks probably all making the team will make for some tough cuts....8 picks in the first 4 rounds is usually an entire draft for a lot of teams, not to mention 5th rounder Judon, who i really think will be a beast in a couple of years.....and the UDFA signed isn't to shabby either....

Reynolds is a great story but i think he needs to beat out Butler the guy catches everything thrown at him

If several injuries are all healed up by September (Joe, SSS, Perriman, Campanaro, Forrsett, Gilmore, Monroe, Wagner, J Smith) we could have an interesting year. If, if, if, if, if . . . . . . . .

Reynolds, if the Navy releases him from his active duty service owed is a easy PS candidate, as i don't see another team scooping him up, especially with him switching positions......

Clay has to make the team for kick / punt returns. Our special teams got dramatically better once he arrived. Risking injury to Webb, Perriman, or another quality player is idiotic. We just can't afford to get players hurt. Clay appears elusive enough to stay out of harm's way with the ability to take it to the house on any return.

I think if Reynolds proves he can return punts/kickoffs he knocks Campanaro off the 53 man roster. I know that the Raven's brass seem to love the guy, but he's got to be sitting on the bubble. Plus, I don't know if he would be picked off the PS if we put him on it, especially with his injury history and lack of production.

@Eze17, and everyone else... 88 TDs... Enough said. Reynolds is making this team.
All this non sense about Practice Squad stashing him etc.. NOT Happening.
A) Patriots have wanted him from jump, so Ravens basically stole him before Patriots had a chance to pick in rnd 6.. if hes on PS Pats would snatch him up.
B) hes worked out tirelessly woth Brian Mitchell, so he will be a return man..Edelman type.Slot WR.
Ravens wanted Playmakers..they arent throwing 88Tds to the PS when Reynolds can make Day 1 IMPACT

Yeah, lets pump the brakes a bit here:

1. Its 88 TDs in college. It doesn't mean anything.

2. Lets not pretend like the Ravens made some big round 1 trade to get ahead of New England to take this guy. He was a 6th round pick. If the Pats really thought he was great, they'd have drafted him sooner.

3. In all likelihood, the only position he will be a "playmaker" at in year 1 is as a kick returner, which he will have to beat out a couple other guys with more experience in order to earn that role. Me personally, I find the days of "playmakers" as kick returners to be largely declining year over year, so this is a pretty tough spot to become an instant playmaker at.

Plus, that position is largely simply an exercise in proper decision making.

Long term, could be a good returner, but I don't see an immediate impact and I certainly don't see him playing many snaps in year 1 on offense. Far too raw in that regard, and the transition from the defenses he's seen at Navy to the NFL is enormous.

Would be very surprised if any team would snatch Reynolds off a PS,his 88 TD's came from being a triple option QB, not a PR or WR, a position he admits others have had 10-15 years perfecting the craft....You snatch a player off a PS you have to have him on your active roster for 3 weeks.....but as usual camp will sort it out......

Matthews had a good game in the super bowl and made 9 catches last year, and all of the sudden he is proven??  Give me a break

When did I say he was a proven receiver? please re-read before posting nonsense.

i wanted us to draft him so bad last year and we did..at TE now he is gonna break out with Benjamin Watson on the other side in Double TE Sets

@Rmcjacket, how bout you pump the breaks!!! You dont FALL INTO 90 TDS.. BY ACCIDENT.
Let me guess you can do that in your sleep?
And nobody is saying Reynolds, and Dixon 175 TDs combined are Barry Saunders, and Jerry Rice.
But you Dont Accidentally fall into 88, and 87 TDs.. these guys are INSTANT IMPACT Players.

So whether you like it ir not..they will be Ravens
