[News] First Impressions Of 2016 Ravens Rookies

I was at the Rookie practice yesterday (thanks BR.com) and here's what I saw:

Correa was in the QB's face all day - single drills, 11 on 11, etc.

Stanley at LT & Lewis at LG were a beast of a left side. Some serious size. They shutdown Judon & Henry on pass plays and made big holes on run plays. Could be what we see opening day on the left side and I'm good with that.

Judon has a nice speed rush but he needs to work on the other aspects of his game. He does explode off the ball though.

Chris Moore looked really, really good. He even looked good returning kicks. I heard the Torrey Smith comps going in but didn't believe it. He looks almost EXACTLY like Smith.

Ochi has a nice bull rush but I think NFL Tackles will eat him up - I now know why he was undrafted.

Tavon Young also looked really, really good. If he was 2 inches taller, he's a Top 10 overall pick (better than Apple, Alexander, Willie Jax III). He smothered the WR in all drills.

I wasn't that impressed with Canady - he looks a little stiff and likes to grab & hold onto the WR to make up for it. Needs some work.

Willie Henry will be a DT stud in 2 years (he's only 21). Thanks Bro Harbaugh for that lay-up.

On a side note: Tackle Blaine Clausell is a HUGE man. He looked like the Wildling Giant from Game of Thrones....

Thanks for the update, I was wondering how they have looked so far. I know its early but its nice to actually hear about them practicing.. I think Judon will be special for us after learning a year behind Sizzle and Doom.

Hold on guys, the scouts did look at more film than we have and some of you may be totally correct but until we see them in some real national football league action we will never know who is right. It's way to early to judge.

If we really want to look at some game footage, look at Chris Moore against Eli Apple and tell me which one should have been the higher draft choice, once again though you may say that was just against Apple which he burned for over 200 yards but there were other high draft choices with similar results.

Unfortunately for Kaufusi he happens to be the guy picked in the spot that should have been traded for Ramsey. Now eyes will be on him because everyone I have spoken to or analyst I have heard has said the Ravens blew it on this pick by not trading it for Ramsey. Now he doesn't even get on the field and that is just going to fuel that fire even more. If he ends up being a bust and barely sees playing time and was the guy that Ozzie chose over Ramsey, the storm about Elam will seem like a shower because it will be a hurricane when the fans start harping on the trade that Ozzie refused even though he had all those fourth round picks. For Kaufusi and Ozzie'ssake I hope he gets on the field soon and shows something cause there will be a bullseye on Kaufusi's back.

Do you have any links? Sources? I havent once, at all, anywhere other than here.....heard someone say we made a bad choice by not making that trade.  Every single piece ive read by analyst have praised the Ravens on their draft.  You obviously disagree with our decision which you are free to do so, but i think your just making this stuff up now.  I would love to read a credible source say we blew it and i dont mean Bob from Back Yard Football on youtube with 19 followers.

I am still a firm believer that Correa will play inside next to CJ, thats his best position in the NFL and Bronson, Judon and Ochi can learn behind Sizzle and Doom.

I thought that at first because of his awesome interior pass rush and his high motor. He's has the size and speed to excell as an ILB but I seriously doubt his coverage skills as an ILB. I do agree that ILB is probably the most suitable position for his physical traits but I also know that transition from 4-3 DE to 3-4 ILB is easier said than done. My guess is that Correa start learning the NFL fast and plays 50 percent of snaps by the time playoffs come. I don't expect him to be a starter this season but I hope for a lot of great situational play from him where his responsibilities are simple. (ILB and OLb)

I'm really starting to appreciate this pick for various reasons

Yup.

Create a hype for months which leads to unrealistic expectations among most of the fans which will result in expectations not being meet and the fire [insert name] threads will once again pop up.

So the cycle of the forum has started.

Haha no,  for one I never argue on here, debate is a better word.  Just stating how fans that pay attention and know what is going on tend to give more patience.  Calm down man...

Haha, yea I remember them.  I was dying laughing when people were calling BP a bust.  The Flacco one is never going to die.  Pees.. well, who knows there.  I cant wait to see the people freak out on this draft class if Correa or Kafusi don't put up 20 sacks

Moore is the real deal! He will push for serious PT on the outside. Reynolds on the other hand is nowhere close to being a NFL caliber slot WR.

When you take a guy that late you aren't expecting anything right away.  He might get some chances in the return game, but they are going to give him time to develop

Moore will be a good addition to our WR unit. I actually read, in more than one place, that Moore was our worst pick. Not overall, but value and round. I don't know what these people are talking about. Moore is an excellent receiver, and getting him in the 4th was perfect. I wonder how Ochi did. I was pushing for us to take him in the 7th, so I was happy that we signed him after he went undrafted. I still can't believe we passed on Scooby Wright in the 7th round? I was yelling and screaming to take him, but nope. Same thing happened with Burfict, and we let him slip away. Ahh, we'll see. I think we had a great draft overall. Not a lot of playmakers, but some good players that will help solidify our roster

Stanley will definitely start. Correa will definitely start, allowing Dumerville to come in during passing situations. Kaufusi could start, but he probably won't. Guy was awesome last year and it's his job to lose. Young could start at Nickle CB, he will have to beat out Davis and Arrington. Last year Davis played great until he got hurt, so we'll see. Moore will get some reps, but he's the 5th receiver. Lewis could start at LG, but probably won't. They could keep Monroe at LT and put Stanley at LG, or if they cut Monroe they could put Urschel or Jenson at LG. Jenson graded out off the charts last year, so Lewis probably won't start. We definitely have 2 starters, maybe 3 or 4

Yea, we were discussing something else and I was just clarifying what he meant.  But at least your optimistic, rare thing around here as you will soon learn

i dont think correa is a better edge setter at this point them dumerville so i believe he will be the starter this season a long with suggs.

which would be perfect to groom correa for the next season and have him work on his pass rushing learning from 2 of the best.

Sometimes reading some of the responses on here is depressing.  Instead of trying to play GM and second guess our draft class, why not just accept the fact that we drafted 11 rookies and wish them the best?  If they succeed, the TEAM will succeed.  Yes there were some guys I wish we would have drafted (Ramsey, Buckner, Jack, VH3...), but I'm not going to try to even act like I know more than our FO when it comes to evaluating players and this draft. Let it go and accept the players we drafted and cheer them on.

People can express their opinions. If you don't like reading them, then do not read them. This board is for this exact reason, to express your perspective.

That being said, not being a GM does not mean you cannot have an opinion or that your perspectives are automatically incorrect unless your a GM.

It does not take an expert to see who has the talent as those players tend to stick out.

What a GM knows that fans do not, is how well their coaches can handle coaching up players, what kind of attitude players have and all the other intangibles that are not recorded as stats, traits and measureables.

Anyone who has played some football at a high school level or higher will have a fairly sound idea of what skillsets players need at certain positions and what to look for. No single person knows everything including GM's. GM's just have the luxury of many more sources of information, which tend to help them more than hurt.

Lastly, most people do not say they know better than the GM and those that say so or otherwise imply as much generally do not even offer up and evidence to backup their perspectives. IMHO no evidence means no value as a perspective.
