Agreed. At the very least he could probably tackle someone in the open field. Hell, he probably would have been one of our best safeties last year if he was still on the team.

FS Rod Woodson SS Ed Reed

LCB Jimmy RCB Ā Nickle WebbĀ RCB McAlister

LOLB Suggs ILB A.Thomas ILB Ray Lewis ROLB Peter Boulware

LE Trevor Pryce RE Haloti Ngata

would be nickle package.
Base id throw in Gregg at NT for Webb.

Starks would be Ā the first sub at CB.

Anyone get the feeling that samari rolle is being overrated? He had the cary Williams problem where he played far off and got beat for easy first downs left and right and also had injuries.

Ā

Jimmy Smith is far and away the better corner

So it's unanimous!

Moving on from the great Ed Reed to sorry Huff was a horrible experiment. Thank god it only lasted a few months till our FO gave up on that lol

Didn't reed play both s positions? Ā I'm cheating and having 2 Reeds back there, Webb and McAlister.Ā

Jimmy in 2014 was just unlocking his true potential and he was right back at it towards the final stretch in 2015, I hope he enters camp healthy so we can see what he can do!

It;s pretty unanimous, FS- Woodson/ SS- Ed Reed, LCB McAllister, Nickel, Webb, and RCB Jimmy Smith. Throw in Corey Graham in 2012-13 and I think he could play either nickel or at safety, he seemingly has been forgotten for his nice stretch here.

Hmm

FS - R.Woodson
SS - E.Reed (I don't know why people in the football world forget how good of a SS he was.
LCB - C.McAlister
RCB - J.Smith/S.Rolle

The RCB position depends on what you prefer. Ā Jimmy's 2014 pre-injury was probably the best CB play the Ravens have ever had or at least up there with some of C-Mac's seasons, but he hasn't played that well multiple seasons. Ā Samari has always gotten some hate since the SSr supposedly burned him repeatedly in that 2006 game, but it's been pointed out that Reed gambled when he was over the top help and left Samari as the scapegoat to many. Ā Rolle has had very good seasons for this team (07 and 08) that go under-appreciated.

If I had a gun to my head, I'd likely go with Smith and add a healthy, 1 ACL tear, Webb to the slot

I think people are also forgetting the playmaking machine, 11-12 pre injury Webb was. Ā I had him top 5 (in the league). Ā His closing speed was remarkable and throwing outs on him was a dangerous move. Ā I still remember that pick in the AFCCG against the Pats. Ā It's one thing to lock someone down, it's another to be able to get the ball back.

I think it's cheating putting Reed at ss to get Woodson in there. Come on Reed is the greatest FS to ever play the game. My favorites...

Ā

CB:. Mccalister

FS:. Ed Reed

SS:. Jim LeonardĀ

CB:. Webb

Reed started his career as a SS and actually won the DPOY award as a SS.

He started his career there yes but come on he's the greatest game changer at FS in the history of the game. He has to play there. And I just always liked the way Leonard played the game. I like this duo.Ā

Reed is 1 of the best safeties ever period and he had a much higher impact as a SS then a FS TBH.

His 2004 season at SS was better then his 2008 season at FS for instance when he both won the Defensive player of the year award.

Not to mention how can anyone not pick having the 2 greatest ball hawks even being on the same field at safety lol.

With both woodson and reed you can pretty much interchange what they are doing since both would be able to handle SS and FS task.

Statistically, you'd have a very hard time find a SS in NFL history that posted numbers for three consecutive years at SS like Reed did to begin his career. Ā People talk about his ball hawking skills at FS and they are correct. Ā But fun fact, his first 3 seasons at FS, he averaged 7 INTs a season (5, 7, then 9). Ā His first 3 seasons at SS, he averaged 7 INTs a season (5, 7, then 9) BUT he also racked up a ton of tackles, fumbles, sacks, and TDs for a safety.

I don't know if it was knowledged on the nerve impingement on drafting Landry (who started) that caused Reed to move to FS, but he was flat out better as a SS than as a FS. Ā And that's saying a lotĀ

Are we talking Peak samari rolleĀ ( titan days?)

I'd consider duane starks in 2000 > Rolle 2006

BUT obviously prime rolleĀ beats prime starks no questions asked..

Didn't Woodson play SS?? Woodson should of been a SS long b4 ravens converted him. He always showed some deficiencies in coverage that his tackling and physicality overshadowed. The class of 83 QBs absolutely used to roast him. Marlon Humphrey's skillset screams SS. And an awesome one at that. As a SS he wouldn't have to do the things he isn't any good at. He is 6'1 and should settle in at around 215. Slightly smaller but as physical and far more athletic Kam Chancellor. No SS has the skills he brings to table.

Of course. Titans Rolle was as close to Deion sanders as there ever was. Starks did have a ferocious rush

Replace Zbikowski with Matt Elam and you're onto something here.

He was always fantastic last season... Before he went down he was #2 in yards allowed and #1 in completions allowed.

Jimmy Smith is a top 3 cornerback in this league. I really don't understand why people hype Tavon Young and put Jimmy Smith down. Jimmy Smith held Odell to 1 catch that ended up being a fumble in one half of play. When he went out, Tavon Young gave up 220 yards and 2 touchdowns and for some reason people still praise him.

I like Tavon and he is a solid #2 or #3 cornerback, but Jimmy Smith singlehandedly is our defense. His injury is the reason we lost 3-4 games we should've easily won.
