[News] AFC North Draft Pick Update

Kiper's grades are not consistent with most pundits. Many have the Browns and Bengals above the Ravens, and the Steelers pretty low. Not that anyone's opinion makes a bit of difference.

I kinda thought on draft night the Bungles robbed the Squeelers when they took William Jackson III...to be honest with you, I thought everyone in our division did well in this draft, except Cleveland which looked like they threw a bunch of darts and hoped some of them stuck. Ogbah could turn out to be a very good player though. Kessler only got picked cause they needed some depth. Next year's QB class is rated WAY,WAY stronger than this years, which I think is why they didn't mind trading the 2nd overall pick. They know that they are still gonna be bottom feeders and will have another top five pick next year when they can draft their QB for the future. I wonder how many of these 14 picks even make their roster?

The one thing about Draft Grades that I've noticed is most sites feel the Browns didn't do enough with their 14 picks, they hate the Kessler pick because of arm strength, their grade varies according to if the writer is giving them bonus points for collecting future picks. If Mel includes the "value" of adding future 1st and 2nd rounders then their grade improves..

Mel is admittedly a homer when it comes to the Ravens but I've seen excellent grades for the Ravens all over, just this morning I read on SI.com they believe we drafted at least 4 players that will be key contributors this year.

Steelers grades are all based on how people viewed the Burns & Davis..

I really like the Bengals draft... Add depth and future contributors to the roster all over.

Didn't realize the browns drafted 5 wide receivers

Round 4 (138): WR Seth Devalve, Princeton
He should be listed as TE/WR.. 6'2 244 lbs, I heard NFLN mentioned they liked the pick of tweener future TE as a weapon.

Ha ha. Supposedly the Steelers first round pick was a guy that should have been a second/third rounder. They def seemed to be drafting for need. However, unlike the Raven they seem to already have a Championship team in place, barring no injury and given they can improve their secondary. If the Ravens can get 3 quality starters out of this draft and a few more contributors, I would say the Ravens did well, aside from addressing our huge weakness in the secondary.

Thanks for the info, didn't really look into other teams picks yet

I would realistically give us an A-, we landed some pretty solid prospects, at least 4-5 players that will get a lot of playing time, if not start, such as Stanley, Correa, Young, Dixon, and Henry and a few developmental guys like Judon and Ochi--UDFA Ik.I think we are in good shape depending on the health of Jimmy smith.

I really believe the Ravens had the best draft short of the Jaguars in the entire draft and only if Jack pans out and has a long career. Till then I would in fact rate both the drafts on par right now. I love the Ravens but I'm just being intellectually honest and objective here.... I think!
As for the rest of the AFC North, I don't know how the Browns draft will pan out, but I do like what Cincy did a lot. As for Pittsburgh though it seemed like they reached on their selections, if they pan out, it won't matter.

Agree that Kiper is a homer.

On the other hand, you do have pretty much most analysts agreeing that we had a solid draft. Maybe not the best or among the best drafts like Kiper said, but a good draft.

McShay indicated that he thought we had the best 4th round of draft picks he had ever seen in draft history.

I thought Chicago had a really good draft also...and while i'm no Cowboys fan, if Jaylon Smith can make a come back, he is probably the best prospect in this draft.

See the problem with both Jacksonville and Dallas is the probability question that goes with the evaluation.

Well, for one thing the doctor who operated on Smith also works for the Cowboys...another point would be that the Cowboys already have a pretty good team, as long as Romo is healthy and they can generate a pass rush. The boy's can more afford too gamble, where as the Jags desperately need play-makers now. Jack will be counted on immediately.

I have to admit that I like what the Bengals and Browns did. The Bengals first. They added depth in the secondary and when you play Pittsburgh 2x per year with that offense... that was a smart pick! I also think that Tyler Boyd will be better then Sanu and with AJGreen opposite him a good route runner can be a big hit in Cincy! I was not crazy about the rest of their draft however but think WR Cody Core could develop.
The Browns: I have to admit.. I love their draft. They got a big play WR in CColeman and I really like Ricardo Lewis. They added some size and physicality to an already decent young defense with Ogbah and Nassib. I also think S DKindred has a chance to help out over there. The browns will be better as a result of this draft and better for the next several years... if the mgmt. don't mess it up.
The Sqeelers: I think they reached on both ABurns and Davis and maybe even Hargraves.... but with that being said... SGolston was drafted last year as a CB by them and missed the season with an injury.... he will be back in combination with those two and should mean that the sqeelers secondary will be better then last season. I really like a couple of their late round picks in Travis Feeney (the kid is a monster and Matakavich is a blue collar Jarett Jonhson type of LB)... so they could have improved their defense.

WIth all that being said... I think we have had the upper hand for this reason... The bengals have weapons and are talented everywhere again but if you can get to Dalton... it negates some of that talent. We drafted to ensure that we could! The Browns. While they will be better they still have a talent gap behind us and even 14 picks in the draft couldn't make that much of a gap up... Finally, the sqeelers.... they will be better on D but their weakness is in their OL which we exploited last season... with the addition of our Pass Rushers and getting SUggs back... we should be even more of a headache for Ben this year. and while they improved Defensively.... they still have question marks in the DBackfield and with SSS, Perriman, Watson, Chris Moore, Camp back healthy, Maxx a year improved.... etc... we have too much for them to contain at this point. Plus... we should be able to protect Joe better then year (vs all of them) and that usually means wins! I like it.. *I still think that we need to add more but I like where it is headed!

You know these articles would be a lot more believable if this guy didn't praise every team and every draft choice they made. Maybe he should wear a dress and get some pompoms. He is in the wrong line of work.

He's mainly talking about the teams top overall picks, which anybody who watches football will have good things to say about any teams top prospects...this was, if not super-star wise, at least a very deep draft with a lot of talented guys drafted in the 1-4 rounds who can come in and immediately help their teams.

Why would you talk negative about guys who have never played in the NFL? That's why they're prospects: looked good in college, here's why they may succeed in the pros. Are you implying that the other three teams in our division didn't draft any talented players? Man, I wish that was true, but it's not. If you want someone to talk trash on other teams players, go hang out in a bar instead of reading informative information.
