[News] Late For Work 5/5: Will Ravens Make More Veteran Additions?

50 posts in this topic

Very glad we convinced Ochi to become a Raven.  I had a feeling he would go at least in the 5th, so I was surprised that he wasn't drafted at all.

Hopefully, he'll become another very good player for us. that was an UDFA.

Between Ochi and Judon, I believe we will have at least one very good rotational pass rusher moving forward.

Prayers for Mr. Perriman

Culliver could potentially be the final piece of this secondary puzzle. We would be prepared for injuries and have one hell of a competition for 3 spots.

Please Ozzie bring him in and lock the damn door!

First of all, I want Orr or Brown to line up with Mosely, period. If its not Brown, I want him rotated in. Now that Weddle is back there, he can direct Brown if need be. Next, I dont think there is a salary cap on scouts, or a max number that you can have? That being said, More scouts with talent on the payroll, can that be a bad thing? Can take more video of key players, maybe from Freshmen on up. I do hope we are not waiting for the Senior bow or combine to decide if we like somebody, as I suspect that is where all these pundit mock drafters decide how good players are.

Chris Moore's almost 20 YPC average sounds great - but, if you come to think of it, it suggests that he's a one-trick pony - or was totally excluded from short yardage plays for some reason. If Torrey was exclusively used as a deep threat, he'd have a similarly impressive YPC stat - but from tenth the number of catches.

Dunno - I don't remember seeing a game in which Culliver played well... Of course, I've only seen 20-30 games tops, where he played, so it's anything but proper sample size.

You would be wrong if you were in the camp saying the Ravens didn't do enough to add playmakers on both sides of the ball. The drafted and UDFA players on the defense side combined for 160.5 career sacks, and the offensive players combined for 220 TD's. Are they the flashy popular players everyone wanted? No. Are they humble, hungry, and willing to put in work? Yes.

Isn't he just coming off a acl/mcl repair as well?

I hope that we land a nice post June 1st cut, but if not, save the $ so we're in a better spot for any surprises or just moving towards next season.

BUT, please Ozzie, try to start chipping away at Williams now because if he even remotely improves his sack total for the year we will have no chance.

Odds of a hungry Ochi having a longer, better career than Spence? This is how the Draft works sometimes. Experts are exposed as know nothings all of the time. Didnt Tucker go undrafted? Where would he have gone if teams thought he might become the most accurate kicker in history?

I must say that I am excited about the up coming training camp and this year's draft class. I was a little disappointed at first, but after calming down I see the method to the madness of the player's that were picked.

Moore looks like he will attack the ball more than Torrey Smith. Torrey Smith was never a guy to attack the ball. Which costed us probably 4 or 5 picks a season that I remember. I hope he continues to attack the ball in the NFL

I have a feeling we are going to play a lot more 4-3 and sub packages putting the best 11 guys on the field, It helps we are stacked at the DL and DB position. I wouldn't mind trying KC inside next to CJ, I think he could some great things there and it gives us the flexibility to slide him inside and outside in certain packages.

I dont think there is a limit on the scouts and have always wanted to be one for our Ravens. I plan on being one by this time next year, I will be focusing more on the lowlights and what they can improve on to become the best possible player they can.

If Judon and Ochi show some stuff during training camps I agree put Correa next to Mosley at inside linebacker. He has the tools to play both.

I would have to say the biggest thing I was upset about was passing on Myles Jack, I understand his knee problem and that we still got a great player. In my opinion he just isnt a player that you can pass on in the 2nd round, not only is he a top 5 player when healthy but he is so versatile that he can play any level on the Defense. I understand with the injuries we have had on the team and Perriman missing all of last year it was hard to spend a high pick on another questionable player. However I think we could of got a higher pick in return for trading down.

When you don't notice a CB for 20-30 then he's doing his job well lol

hes no J.Smith but he'd certainly give S.Wright a run for his money.

That's correct. His biggest knock is his injury proneness. That's alsowhy we can afford him ;)

I'm just not that sold on Hawk or Culliver...Lets wait until we have some more guys getting let go at the June 1st cuts before going on a spending spree. I would definately like to see some more competition at CB. Obviously Arrington didn't impress many(any?) people last year. Maybe he couldn't pick up our system that well? He was good with NE, so really don't know what was up, but the FO decided to keep him around so they must know something. While ILB is still a question mark, I don't know who could be released that we would consider worth signing. AS the Raven's almost always bring in 1-2 veterans before or after training camp, we'll see some movement. I won't get my hopes up that it's a game changer, however.

Correa, Kaufusi, Judon and Ochi - QBs beware!

Yup, hoping all teams are focused on suggs and doom and won't see it coming from the new guys

By who?

You know he only played 6 games last year in a new system on a defense with literally no pass rush.... And he earned himself a 8 mil per year contract the year prior.

You mean the same pff that rated Rodes #9 and Culliver #10 the year prior..,

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/02/13/sig-stats-ypcs-cornerbacks/

Then rates them 102 and 111 the next year...

I'm sorry but I honestly don't take PFF too seriously.

Why isn't that accurate though? They played great in one year and poor in another... happens all the time to many players.

PFF isn't the be-all, end-all, but they're pretty much one of the only evaluators who looks at production on a snap by snap basis, not just using box score statistics that anybody can pull off ESPN.

Its quite useful when evaluating players who aren't putting up "box score" stats, like lineman, linebackers, secondary players, etc.
