[News] Late For Work 5/3: Biggest Winners, Losers Of Ravens Draft

Yea, I don't think the Ravens will cut Monroe. They can't get a serviceable tackle for 2.1 mill. I also think if Monroe is healthy he will beat out Stanley as left tack in year one, and I assume he will take over in 2017. Not that Stanley won't play, I see him at guard this year barring no injury to Monroe, and if Monroe does get injured I assure you that Stanley will take over for sure. Either way Stanley makes the offense line greatly improved (hopefully).

All depends.

1. If you cut him after June 1, its not $2.1M... its $6.5M, in savings, though some of that gets pushed to 2017.

2. I wouldn't look at it as getting a serviceable tackle for that price, because you probably don't need a tackle (we drafted two of them). I'd look at it as figuring out if you can upgrade another position for that price.

If a respectable ILB or Corner becomes available in July/August, and you need $4M to sign him, all of the sudden that money seems important.

Ultimately I don't think it happens, because I don't think the cap space will be a problem. But in the event that we wanted to create significant space somewhere, somebody like Monroe would be near the top of the list of people we could dump to do it.

I love the Stanley pick, protecting Joe is key. Looks like a good draft, but only time will tell.

Me too...  Now, refresh my memory.  How did Joe go down last season?  Hmmm....  We Needed a good LT.  I think we got one.

Play was dead. Some defensive lineman was still engaged with Hurst, and he fell and took Joe with him.

Lets just take names and forget the draft pick numbers. If today you were offered Ramsey for Stanley and Kaufusi (or whatever his name is) would you do it? In a heartbeat or maybe quicker. However, by holding on to that third round pick, that is what we turned down. To me, it is a no-brainer, it was a no-brainer draft night. We could have traded back up and got another left tackle, but we really didn't need one, we had Monroe who people may not like, but he is now healthier than he has ever been so lets get rid of him, like we have many players, to watch him be successful somewhere else. Why is it we do that? Why did we value a third rounder which, like many other third rounders, we get rid of in a couple years, or we could have had Ramsey who would have been that anchor for a decade or more. I just don't understand the love of picks just for the sake of having picks. And the logic of lets get more so maybe we hit on one tells me we aren't really good at doing this or we would have more faith in the guys we select. We drafted Arthur Brown in the second round and moved up to get him but we wont to get Ramsey. This FO has lost its way.

Ramsey plays soft with no killer instinct - watch the game tape. He's a primadonna at the S position. He doesn't attack and has hands of stone - why do you think he didn't have very many INTs? His footwork is shaky and he is a huge liability against the run - he cannot shed blockers.

He's a really good FS but I don't buy him as a top CB in the NFL. Using your argument, we already have Eric Weddle at FS, so why trade 2 top picks for a guy that will either be on the bench or play out of position?

Though, not the fanciest pick, OL was needed.  Everyone is mad about not going corner, but we've shown lately we can somewhat develope them.  There is also the fact you can find good ones in the middle-late 1st round.  We found players that fit us.  Versatile players on d, another steal at RB and finally seeing Ozzie attempt to get playmaker in offense, even if they are later picks.  These picks shouldn't necessarily be the key to our season.  To me, it's if the players who were injured can return to form and we can just have the young guys, "do their job."

Really?  RGlll was inducted into the HOF after being picked -- adoring fans who gushed at how great he would be. The once in a decade player AKA J. Clowney was all pro last year-- ah, not so much. No- brainer? The draft is littered with " no- brainers" and flops. I'm sure that others on thi thread can add their own " no- brainers".

I don't see us cutting Monroe at least until July/Aug, if they cut him at all. As it stands now, we'll have Zutta at center and Yanda at RG. That leaves Wagner and Wesley as incumbant veterans to fill RT, with Urschel and Jensen looking at LG. Unless Alex Lewis acts like superman, or we suffer serious injuries, I don't see him as our starting RT. Stanley, however, will start-be it at either tackle position or LG. I think the Raven's at least wait through training camp and into the pre-season to evaluate who best to start our three open positions. If they feel Stanley looks good at LT, and our returning veterans lock up LG and RT, and barring injuries, then Monroe's days are numbered. If Monroe can play at the top of his game, and one of the other positions look shaky, then we could keep Monroe for another season and plug Stanley where we need him. Now, if a veteran player comes on the market that the FO decides we have to have, and costs a good bit of coin, then Monroe would be the easiest player to cut both position and cap wise.

I don't think he would fit the type of player we are looking for. I would think the types of ILBs we are looking at have more speed and are better in pass coverage. Timmons certainly doesn't fit that role at this point.

Wouldn't surprise me if we just roll forward with these young guys and let the best guy win the job.

Keeping Monroe and starting Stanley out in KO's spot makes the most sense for '16. That would be consistent with Ravens history...

That's was the same lineman that let Justine get slammed.

I agree, "They used their third-round pick on BYU defensive end Bronson Kaufusi " and with a name like Bronson he has to be tough.

Well this time around its a different situation. It will be largely based upon how polished and quickly Ronnie can become a consistent pro level ready tackle. IF it happens quickly, look for Monroe to be released to increase cap numbers.

Also no one drafts a top ten talent expecting they don't step into starting position almost immediately or else I'd argue they wasted their pick.

The wide receiver position is plentiful, but we are still missing a top game changer. I can't wait till we have the luxury to draft that true #1 receiver. There is hope though, if this year's draft pans out, we won't have to reload the Ol and Dl again and we might get the opportunity to select a consistent playmaker next year.

Well first off Jesen steps into LG before Urschel, as Urschel is the backup C at this point. No need to risk injuring your backup center, a key position by playing elsewhere, except maybe in a pinch.

The starting offensive line will be Stanley, Jensen, Urschel, Yanda, Wagner (l to r) within a year or so IMHO. Pretty solid group.

Monroe I see being released once Stanley steps onto the scene and Zuttah I see them parting ways with at some point as he's getting up there in age.

Is it just me or do the Ravens only ever draft WR that are capable of the being a deep threat? This article doesn't even mention Wallace in the mix either. A lot of the players in the mix have shown enough to make a roster but not enough to earn significant game time.

If anything last season showed strongly that the Ravens need WR's that can run routes to create separation in the short-mid range passing game. It's no wonder the had difficulties moving the chains too often. As soon as your behind you do not tend to run the ball as much and you do not get the amount of time required to chuck deep balls all day.

I don't see lots of bodies counting as being deep at any position. I call having lots of game ready players (contributors) at a position depth.

Exactly. Happens every year, it seems. And just wait: if Myles Jack turns out to be healthy and great, everyone will say the Ravens were idiots for not taking him. If he doesn't, nobody will point out how smart the Ravens were to pass on him twice.

If Urschel plays better at LG, he gets the job. You never sit a superior player on the bench just because your afraid of injuries, and want him as a back-up. Makes no sense.

If Monroe comes in and has a good camp, would you just get rid of him because you drafted a new guy? I don't think so. If the team decides that it would be prudent to release him for cap reasons, that's a different story. But if he stays healthy and can contribute, I think they'd keep him around. It also depends on how Stanley looks during camp and pre-season. If he seems overwhelmed, the Raven's are not going to throw him in at LT protecting Flacco's blind side.

I was all in on Sterling Sheppard. I will have to add Eli to my fantasy team now :(

I don't see us cutting Monroe this year. What will the extra cap space do for us this year? Too much to loose at this point. Best scenario is he is healthy and the new kid is great too. Both play, gives us some options moving people around, Next year? Maybe a different story.

Stanley beating out a healthy Monroe by opening day seems to be a stretch... I think they both start in the season opener.

CB Chris Culliver was cut by the redskins, not too familiar with his game and ho good he is, but I've heard his name before.

That may well be but its not for production reasons, it's purely for health reasons. He's consistently shown playmaking ability when he gets snaps. I think it's naive to think there's no place for him in the team and that his release is a done deal. It wouldn't surprise me if camp didn't make it to the 53 but I'll admit I'd still be disappointed because he's proven he can play. He just hasn't proven he can stay on the field. I certainly think that if camp has a good camp it will be really tough to cut him.

Could be the Steelers, Bengals, and Browns the winners if this turns into another 2013 draft or another Raven vs Patriots AFC show down.

Prepare yourselves, Campanaro fanboys! Your boy is dunzo!

Why would you revel in the unfortunate health of one of our players? If you root for the Ravens, you should root for their players to do well.

Although if you're actually a fan of another team, then carry on.
