Possible vet departures

54 posts in this topic

So with 11 rookies coming in, unfortunately some vets have to go. I know it's entirely TOO early but that never stopped a post like this in the past.

What vets get shown the door b/c of this new rookie class (barring injury)?

Looking at the current roster, here's my list:

WR: Marlon Brown, Mike Campanaro

RB. Terrance Magee, Terrance West

DL: Kapron Lewis-Moore, Nordly Capi(don't even know who this is).

DB: Anthony Levine, Jumal Rolle,

I wouldn't be too mad if that Levine cut turned into Kyle Arrington or Asa Jackson instead.   But right now I agree with all the rest.

Apologies.  I missed that.  But suddenly my whole day looks much brighter.   (ESPN still has him on our depth chart)

Levine has ST value, and Arrington is basically the only slot corner on the roster right now, so I think he's pretty much locked in.

I think you'll see a lot of WRs getting cut, and maybe a bit of a shakeup on the Dline. I honestly don't see how KLM keeps a spot on this team.

RB is interesting. I think Forsett is safe (though I wouldn't be surprised if we somehow needed cap space if they moved on from him either), and the rookie is basically safe. Other than that, everybody is fighting for a job. West probably beats out Richardson in a competition, and I don't see a lot of paths for LT to make this team. Just really doesn't do much well as a RB from what I see.

Marlon Brown

James Hurts

KLM

Either Matt Elam or Levine

Jumal Rolle

Maybe Arrington (I still have hope for Will Davis)

A possibly traded Eugene Monroe

Terrence Magee, Terrence West

A couple of the WRs... be it Campanaro, D.Brown, Kaelin Clay, Jeremy Butler

I agree with all but Camp.

I think they are gonna hang on to him.

You guys should take a gander at the My Current Guess for the 53 man Roster thread here.

I think there are going to be A LOT of cuts that surprise people.

I think a lot of guys are on officially on notice

RB: Taliaferro, West, Juice, Richardson
WR: M. Brown, Matthews, Clay, Campanaro
TE: Waller, Pitta
OL: Monroe, Hurst
DL: Lewis-Moore, Urban
ILB: A. Brown
CB: Arrington, Price, Rolle (but really, any healthy body here might be guaranteed with our luck)
S: Lewis, Elam, Levine, Brooks

On notice? Yeah, that seems like the group .

More than a few names on there I would hate to see go, but business is business.

I'd say Juice is safe rmw. We didn't draft a fullback at all and he is a weapon... So

I'm not so confident.  Just might be a numbers game for him.  I think he's doubtful to be cut but I don't consider him a guarantee.

We can't keep reserving a roster spot for Camp. I liked him coming out as much as the next guy - and as a North Carolinian maybe even more since I saw him play well before he was on our radar - but if he gets injured again at any point I don't see how we can hold on to him. With all the young talent we have all over the roster, any available spot is cherished and Camp may no longer be worth it.

I was a big fan of Taliaferro but at this point I don't see a place for him anymore. Injured multiple times and benched for fumbling, we just have too many RBs - he'll get a fair shot at one of the few spots but I can't see him beating out the lot.

Marlon Brown at this point is just a camp body, oft injured and has disappointed mightily since his rookie year. With 6 or 7 WRs being kept maximum, and 4 - SSS, Perriman, Aiken, and Wallace - being locks, I don't see how he can beat out Butler and Moore. Butler showed plenty of ability last season and has shown durability, and Moore gets a bit of a bump for being a high 4th rounder. If we're keeping a 7th receiver I'd put my money on Matthews - ST ability and his height is weapon in the red zone.

I think Art will make it, if for no other reason we don't have anyone else that's seemingly better coming in as an UDFA. Arrington is in the same boat, making it because of lack of options at the position. Also his slot experience will help out Young.

I agree. We loose valuable players we love all the time.

Juice could be one of them.

I doubt it, but maybe.

Yep.  If we didn't draft Dixon, I wouldn't even think it was an option.  However, his receiving prowess could make Juice a little less of a need.

I don't know why everyone here thinks SSSr is a lock. He's 37, he retired, was injured, un-retired and is rehabbing. People seem to think he'll perform as if he was 34 again. I for one am not buying it. I love his fiery spirit and I hope he fully recovers, but Ozzie needs to have a heart-2-heart with him. He's taking a roster spot from a young'in.

Can't wait for him to exceed your expectations.

I don't know why someone thinks SSS isn't a lock.

Who's expected to play FB if Juice is cut?

Probably no one in the event it actually did happen.  Most teams go without one anyway.

Key areas where we will have to reduce numbers are at runningback, receiver and cornerback

RB.  In Forsett Allen Dixon ... Taliaferro Richardson West and Magee fighting for 4th spot.

WR.  In SSSmith Wallace Perriman Aiken and Moore ... D.Brown M.Brown Clay Butler Jacobs Campanaro Matthews Waller Reynolds for 2 spots.

CB.  In J.Smith Wright Arrington Young ... Davis Canady Wilson Rolle.

You still need someone to fill the fullback role. You can't just go without one.

I could see it being Nick Boyle - I know... - or perhaps Lorenzo Taliaferro. LT has some pop and some size. He's our biggest back. If we were to dump Juice, I could see LT playing the fullback role, but not necessarily the fullback position. I mean, he is our best pass blocking back by far. He can jack guys up. I see it. And, that's a potential mismatch. That's essentially two running backs out there.

Yeah I was thinking of a RB or TE filling in there essentially.  We'd have someone in the role on occasion, but not a full time player or option.

I doubt Juice gets cut anyways, but just playing devil's advocate.

With a surplus at TE AND at RB - two positions Juice had been an emergency job filler, I could see him being gone. I don't think it's likely, but it's possible.

I'd be a little surprised if we parted ways with Juszczyk. I think he's a guy we'll keep around for his contract. Yeah, maybe he didn't have the role but I'll be a little surprised if we cut him. I think he'll stick around for his final year. Not sure if he's here beyond that, but we'll see.
