2016 Draft a Franchise: Announcement Thread

214 posts in this topic

PLEASE READ:

A couple things to remember before we begin:

1. Head coaches are available to be drafted as well (basically any coach is available for that). However, no drafting someone to be a coordinator (optional continuation only for this)

2. It is 12 hours per pick, but this will be reduced if you are skipped. The first skip does nothing, just a warning really. Every time after this, your draft time is cut in half. So skip number two puts you at 6 hours to pick, then 3 hours and so on.

3. If you know you won't be around (or are worried you might not be) and you are close to being up, please forward your draft board (a few picks) to someone to select on your behalf (and notify everyone by saying that in the discussion thread). Usually if you have time, ask in the thread if anyone is willing to take it. Also, boards are usually sent to people who won't be up for a while, just as a precaution if you are worried about people seeing your draft board. Example: If you are off to bed and up in a pick or so, send off your board to someone. This allows us to keep the draft going at a good pace. Trust me, long waits are annoying. Especially if you get a couple in a row.

4. No trading of draft picks.

5. Please turn on notifications for being tagged in posts (the tags are these things @Mt. Crushmore). This can be done in your settings. This allows us an easy way to notify a member if they are on the clock or almost on the clock. It is easy than a PM and everyone can see once someone has been notified. Everyone can contribute to notifying people so don't worry, you'll be notified.

6. Make sure to post a roster in the directory thread and continue to update it after every draft pick.

7. After you pick make sure to put it in the big board.

8. Please do not discuss players that haven't already been taken. Once a player is selected you can talk about how he is such a steal, etc.

9. Draft starts tomorrow at 12 pm EST with @ravensdan. If you are one of the first few picks please try and be on at that time. Let's get as many picks done as possible on day 1.

10. Have fun!

Being in the same division as @PuRock reminds me of the fantasy league we were in together and we kept taking each other's players since we drafted next back-to-back.

Also wanted to mention the gentlemen's rule of not discussing players who have yet to be selected.

Now that we've got everything set up, this wait is killing me.

We should start the official discussion thread along with the draft at 12:00

I cant access the roster directory link that was posted at work for some reason, is that going to be an issue?

It probably shouldn't. You can look at other teams at home, but the biggest things that matter is that you can access the Big Board and Draft thread.

Yea I can get into all the normal threads on here, just not  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dLHMPswhc7DEWVjz7CklyZ8CV884yGDUkUIrF8nI5wQ/edit?usp=sharing

If you can't search for players on there, than you can just do the Ctrl-F on the directory and Roster page. As long as everybody is diligent in updating their roster, that is.

The big board google doc. That should also have all of the players that were picked listed there (and will probably be a better source of info than the roster page) but if you can't open the doc than that's the next best thing

Hm, not sure why you can't open it. One way to check for players not using that is to use search function on the board (top right corner). Once the draft thread is up (where all the picks are officially made), then you can search a players name there to see if they have been picked or not.

My work computer is weird and blocks the most random stuff. Thanks a lot, government

That's weird that it would block Google Docs

I'll put it in the 1st post of the discussion thread when that opens with the draft.

One quick thing to note as well for new people: If you have looked through the previous drafts, you'll see that younger players get drafted earlier than maybe you might expect. Most people here view this as more than building a team for 1 year (hence the franchise name). They see it as a multi-year thing. So, if you see younger players going earlier than you thought they might, that is why.

I've worked out my ideal 1st and 2nd round picks. Now to see how wrong I'm going to be.

Also, I did my math and my average draft position in this game is 16, right in the middle. 13 this year, 6 last year, 22 and 23 the years before. (Might be a spot or 2 off on the ones in the 20s, as I can't quite remember.)
