Why Did Rex Ryan Interview With The Jets?

10 posts in this topic

In the past it's always been that anyone being interviewed that is still alive in the playoffs doesn't interview with any team until AFTER the playoffs, or at the very least, they are eliminated from the playoffs. Why did Rex Ryan interview with the Jets prior to the conclusion of our playoffs? This to me is BS, and I haven't seen this occur before. Last season we didn't interview anyone until the conclusion of that team's playoffs, not DURING their playoff run. I find this to be very disrespectful on Rex's part..

I know he cant be hired until after we are done. I am not sure about interviewing. The Jets did get permission to speak to him.

The rule was changed so coaches in a playoff run had an equal chance to interview as coaches who were eliminated. There is a small window to interview them. i think this week. They are not allowed to interview the 2 weeks prior to the Super Bowl.

I am 95% sure we interviewed Jason Garret before the cowboys playoff game.

And Rex did the right thing by making both organizations come to Bmore to interview him. I would hate to see him go but taking 8 hours to better his career and achieve his head coaching dream is not selfish or disrespectful at all. We owe him that much

Rex wants to be a head coach. Everyone on the team knows that, especially John Harbaugh. If Harbs thought it would be a huge distraction then I'm sure he would let Rex know but it really isn't.

He was interviewed on an off day and there isn't anyone in our organization who doesn't think that Rex deserves a head coaching job somewhere in the NFL.

I'm sure they are happy that people are interviewing him. This isn't a distraction.

I'm not sure it's up to Harbaugh; Rex probably needed permission from Ozzie/Steve/Cass rather than the head football coach...

Rex has done a lot for this team, and holding him back would be severely limiting his options as teams don't want to wait until the middle of February to have a new coach. I mean, look at Kokinis; the front office isn't letting the guy interview, and his seemingly picture perfect situation in Cleveland may just slip through the cracks.

I still think its dumb that he did that. I love Rex. But he is a defensive cordinator. Im not sure that he'd be a great head coach because of the way he manages the end of the game going into the pass prevent crap but if he dose go I wish him the best of luck and I hope to see him do well....

If anything, Rex will put forth his best effort now (not that he ever hasn't). I'm sure the Jets big wigs, and every other person with any interest in football will be watching this Sunday.

Everyone knows he's out when he get's a chance. He shouldn't be penalized for doing his job right.

If Rex does leave after this season, which I hope he doesnt.

I don't think he'll go to the Jets. The philosophy of that team is the HC should have alot of power on hiring of players etc, like Mangini trading for Brett. I don't think Rex can make those decisons all too well.

I can see him going to an NFC team that has offensive potential and defensive struggles, Rams.
