Lost In Translation's Extensive Draft Grades!

8 posts in this topic

Not sure where this is supposed to go. But since these players are ours, I think that this was appropriate to put into Ravenstalk.

Now unlike the rest of you, I really liked this class. There's a lot of potential here, and I think yes.. This team is a lot better than before. We did a lot of great things this class. We got protection for Joe and improved the pass rush, got another corner, got some offensive weapons. We didn't hit the MLB as a need but whatever. That position has become decreasingly important and we have a good one. I did disagree with a few of the moves, but overall, this was a good class.

Round One: Ronnie Stanley A+

How the hell could I give this guy any less? He's the safest prospect we've drafted in years with little to no risk, a very high floor and ceiling. You may say that Tunsil is better(which I agree with), but after will hill and ray rice, we don't want to take on the risky players. Those two screwed us over big time. So as a player he needs to work on his run blocking, which isn't nearly as bad as a lot of people say, and is a damn good pass protector. I would've liked us to draft a guard later on, but we've got a good one here. He went right about where I had and has legit all pro potential. He's a difference maker easily because he contributes to the run game and the pass game, and has a high football IQ. He may be a soft spoken person, but usually that's an attribute a lot of intelligent people have as well. You can tell he's smart just by hearing him speak. We need smart.

Round Two: Kamalei Correa Player Grade B-, Trade grade C

So I like Correa, I think he has a high ceiling but a low floor. I don't know where we are going to play him but I honestly think he could make an impact with some competent coaching. He had none at Boise. Demarcus Lawerence turned into a good pass rusher didn't he? Now, as much as I've defended the Jack pick, that's cause I understand it. I'm upset we lost out on him cause quite frankly, he would've put this class over the top. But if he has a shorter NFL career you people would berate Ozzie for the pick. Correa wasn't the safe pick. He was a high upside pick with immense potential and a motor. Relentless motor and a high effort guy with great athletic ability. He needs to get stronger(which can get done easily in an NFL weight room), and get better hand usage but overall, I think that Correa has ability to be good. He's got bust potential, but this one feels different.

Round Three: Bronson Kaufausi A

I hated this pick at first. I thought BYU ran a gimmicky defense. Then I went back to the tape to see if there was anything I missed at all. I missed a ton on this one. This guy can bring the heat, and has fantastic athletic ability as well as skills. He's versatile and very good against the run in addition to being a good pass rusher. He could very well be a day one starter, and turn into a very good interior rusher for us. Think Trevor Pryce when he was here 2007-2009. Great pick.

Round Four(1): Tavon Young: A+

Loved this pick from the get go. A physical little guy who will probably be our slot CB at some point this season. He may be tiny, but he's got skills. Good in coverage and a playmaker in the secondary. Something we lacked. Having Jimmy and Wright back there is nice and all, but Young is an interception threat from the get go and plays physical coverage. With some fine tuning he could turn into a very good slot CB and a high profile contributor.

Round Four(2): Chris Moore D

Moore was my least favorite pick of the draft. Why does Ozzie continue to draft WRs? He clearly can't. Well, there are some positives to him.  He at least catches with his hands unlike Torrey, and is a deep ball threat. But lack of straight line speed and mediocre hands and bad route running drop this grade.. A lot. My view he's nothing more than a #4 WR. Why we took him is totally beyond me. Cooper would've been my pick here.

Round Four(3): Alex Lewis A-

Lewis is a character concern and will never be good enough to be a starter full time at OT until he gets stronger. He's got technical skill which is great, but lacks strength, which will come over time. Lewis is an amazing pick because of this one fact alone: We will never play James Hurst again. He's going to be a swing tackle. Oline depth is a valuable commodity in Today's NFL.

*Joe Flacco starts jumping for joy*

Round Four(4): Willie Henry- A++

This is our best pick right here. He had legit day two talent, but his character concerns dropped him here. This could be the steal of the draft and our next pick could as well(and fourth rounders don't make a difference lmao). Henry lives and breathes for one thing. Fighting police dogs. Kidding, he can get to the QB like its nobody's business with good hand work and good burst. He also provides interior pressure and will probably come in on third down this season. This is clearly a move to a nickel defense. So even if he doesn't start here, he's going to make an impact. I love this pick. I wanted Day here, but Henry was very good compensation.

Round Four(5): Kenneth Dixon-A++

So this guy could be the other steal of the draft. He should've gone early round three. I had him ahead of Derrick Henry and Devontae Booker among others. He is instant coffee as his game is good enough to overtake Forsett as the starter. He's got good hands, he's a very good runner with good athletic ability and good vision, he's a violent runner. He's Ravens football right here.He will make other teams pay. It wouldn't surprise me if Forsett takes a seat to Dixon, he's got a crazy high ceiling.

Round Five: Matt Judon A+

Overkill is real Ozzie. But you can never have too many pass rushers so I do love this pick. Another potential steal solely because of where he went to school. In addition to having very very good athletic ability, he's got pass rushing moves. He's got raw aspects to his game, but he has a Brandon Williams type ceiling for us. He's a legit talent who I think if he gets proper coaching could be a star in this league. He won't be a contributor day one but he's got the potential to be one year two.

Round Six: Keenan Reynolds B-.

Potential as a slot WR, with a knock for scoring anywhere. He's not going to be anything but an OW but I'm very okay with that. he's got talent.

Round Six Comp: Maurice Canady C-.

Practice squad player from the get go. Has potential in a dean pees defense but is soft. Not physical, with poor ball skills. Depth pick. Nothing more

So overall grade: B+. There are some picks I liked and didn't but this draft gave us defensive depth, which is what we needed. We improved both the interior pressure and the edge pressure as well. The trenches have been solidified which is how we win games. Our fourth rounders were great picks. There's a lot of talent here to work with.

Well I'm out.

Love the write up.   I said it numerous times we are going to get a stud out of the 4th,  I think it's true even more now.  Love Dixon

4th round is probably solid, 2nd and 3rd seem very underwhelming and missed opportunity for immediate impact players

Not really. Its overkill to draft four pass rushers but Ozzie has been quoted saying that in the past

Not responding to this post, just didn't wanna quote the long one.

I enjoyed your take on the draft. However I disagree with your grade on Correa, the trade and Moore.

I thought the Ravens got great value in the trade back and Correa was clearly a guy they targeted. So not only did they get their man they added two more picks in doing so. For me the trade made the pick even better. You gave Judon a A+ grade but without that trade he's probably not on the team.

I agree with a lot of what you said about Correa but I'd give him a higher grade because I think he'll make a huge impact day 1.

I absolutely loved the Moore pick. Is he polished? No but he's as least on pat with what Torrey brought to this offense and Trestman will be creative in getting the ball in his hands in space. He'll be a Jacoby type minus the return ability. He allows the addition of Wallace to be short term if he can come in and work hard under Engram's coaching. He's a big play waiting to happen and this offense needs that. Love the pick.

Also I would have given Reynolds an A grade. I see him being given a opportunity from day one to be the RS and the slot WR for this offense. Again I love the pick because of Trestman's creativity. Trestman will find ways to get the ball in his hands. I can easily see him pushing Camp off the roster and giving the Ravens that package of Slot/RS they've been looking for.

Great analysis, I generally agree with your outlook on each player, especially Young, Henry and Judon. Your math might be a little off with the overall which would be an A-, but regardless, very solid.
