My Current Guess At The Ravens 53-Man Roster (Merged)

Alright, let's give this one last try.  I'll talk more about the guys just making it and just missing it than the obvious ones.

Quarterback (2): Joe Flacco, Ryan Mallett
Cut: Josh Johnson

I never saw this as much of a competition and last night confirmed my suspicions.  If Mallett was in any danger of losing his spot, he wouldn't have been pulled so early.  Josh did well and should find a job elsewhere after he's let go.

Running Back (5): Justin Forsett, Terrance West, Kenneth Dixon, Buck Allen, Kyle Juszczyk
Cut: Stephen Houston

I think Buck was in serious danger of not having a spot until Dixon got hurt.  We'll see what happens when he gets back, but Buck shouldn't be feeling too comfortable right now.

Wide Receiver (6): Steve Smith, Kamar Aiken, Mike Wallace, Breshad Perriman, Chris Moore, Jeremy Butler
Cut: Michael Campanaro, Chris Matthews, Keenan Reynolds

I'll explain the rationale on Campanaro at the end.  Butler played too well to leave off the roster.

TIght End (3): Crockett Gillmore, Dennis Pitta, Maxx Williams
Cut: Daniel Brown
Suspended: Darren Waller, Nick Boyle

Daniel Brown should hang around on the PS, but could sneak his way on if they don't think Pitta or Williams will be healthy for week 1.

Offensive Line (8): Ronnie Stanley, John Urschel, Jeremy Zuttah, Marshal Yanda, Rick Wagner, Alex Lewis, Ryan Jensen, James Hurst
Cut: Vlad Ducasse, De'Ondre Wesley, Blaine Clausell, Matt Skura

It pains me to put James Hurst on here, but I think he makes it... for now at least.  I expect T to be an area that we search hard for during this waiver period.  I have Ducasse as off, but that's because I think he'll get the veteran "re-sign you after week 1 so your salary isn't guaranteed" treatment.  Wesley should safely make it to the PS, as should Clausell and Skura if we want them there.

Defensive Line (7): Brandon Williams, Timmy Jernigan, Lawrence Guy, Brent Urban, Carl Davis, Michael Pierce, Willie Henry
Cut: Kapron Lewis-Moore

I simply just couldn't leave Pierce off any longer.  He was doing damage against the Saints' 1st team OL last night, and I think he made it impossible to cut him.  Henry needs some work and will likely be a weekly inactive.  Lewis-Moore apparently had a strong camp but has done very little in the preseason.

Inside Linebacker (4): CJ Mosley, Zach Orr, Kamalei Correa, Anthony Levine
Cut: Arthur Brown, Patrick Onwuasor

I don't think there's too much to talk about here.  Arthur Brown had a nice night but it's probably too little, too late for him.  We don't have a traditional backup ILB but we also aren't playing the traditional 3-4 anymore, so I think we can suffice with Correa and Levine for the time being.

Outside Linebacker (5): Terrell Suggs, Elvis Dumervil, Albert McClellan, Za'Darius Smith, Matt Judon
Cut: Chris Carter, Victor Ochi, Brennen Beyer

The top 5 have been locks for some time now.  Carter gave it an effort but I don't think ST is enough to save him this year.  Ochi will likely be cut and claimed elsewhere, unfortunately.  Beyer seems to be a coaches' favorite and might end up back on the PS.

Cornerback (6): Jimmy Smith, Shareece Wright, Tavon Young, Jerraud Powers, Will Davis, Sheldon Price
Cut: Maurice Canady, Carrington Byndom

I opted for Price here because he started and was out of the game early last night.  He only re-entered when Byndom got hurt and they needed another body out there.  I like Canady but I'm guessing we'll hope we can slip him through waivers.  Byndom probably gets IR'd with an eventual injury settlement due to his hammy last night.

Safety (4): Eric Weddle, Lardarius Webb, Kendrick Lewis, Terrence Brooks
Cut: Matt Elam, Julian Wilson

I think Kendrick Lewis could be in a little bit of danger since he hasn't been on the field, but sticks if he's healthy for week 1.  We could use the S depth as I think they'd rather use Levine as a chess piece than a true S.  Wilson has played both CB and S and should be a PS guy.

Special Teams (3): Justin Tucker, Sam Koch, Morgan Cox

I wouldn't say it was easy necessarily, but getting down to 55 wasn't terribly difficult.  At that point, it was the question of what to do with Canady and Campanaro.  Campanaro got the short straw simply because I thought I could better use that spot elsewhere.  I'm not exactly sure who is going to handle PR duties in this situation, but Campanaro simply had the least value to me out of the other options, so I had to leave him off.  Like OT, I suspect we'll be looking hard for a returner in the waiver period.

We've got the same roster projection with a couple of differences.

First, I think the Ravens will keep Canady after Thursday's performance at S/CB.  That paves the way for both Powers and Lewis to be cut, which will make the team much younger and conserve a roster spot to reduce the defense to 25.

On the offensive side, I have Hurst out and Ducasse in with the expectation that the extra spot created from the defense will be used to acquire a serviceable backup tackle or KR/PR.  If the Ravens find a guy to return kicks as well as a tackle, then I think Ducasse would be the logical cut.

Everyone asks, but the only way the team keeps Ochi is if they send Carl Davis to IR.  I don't see that happening and the team would be pressured to cut Ochi later in the season when short-term injuries mount to fill the inactive slots.

I always see people say this, but do you even see any way that Ochi and Reynolds don't make it to the practice squad?

I wanted to keep Canady, and while getting younger is nice, I think they also want some veterans back there.  I'd say that if Powers and/or Lewis is cut, it's because they haven't been on the field, not because of their age.

I just don't know about Hurst.  I wanted to leave him off so badly but him and Clausell have been the only backup LTs from preseason game 2 and onward, and I think it's clear Clausell isn't making it.

The only way I see Ochi making it is if the team truly believes in him.  They might, but I'm still of the opinion that he'll be cut.

My take is:
1)I don't believe the Ravens, who badly needed defensive playmakers, drafted an OT if they weren't sure they couldn't start him day 1. We have to consider that two QBs went overdrafted at #1 and #2, which leaves us with one of the 5 highest rated prospects in the draft. For what we know Stanley could have even been a top 3, at this point. This leaves us with a new starting LT, while our former is unable to switch position; Monroe is too soft and injury prone to play G. Thus, he's a waste of money.
Also, I don't believe our #1 pick is going to play out of position, not even for 1 year. Not only he doesn't fit inside because of his style (Tunsil would've been better in this case) but Harbaugh also made it pretty clear: "have you ever seen him playing inside? no".
The 4,4M that we retain by cutting him now are much needed, as we must extend B.Williams and try to keep Wagner before the end of the season.
2)Same goes for Forsett. It's 2,3M savings for a guy who was never meant to be a bell cow. In such a crowded backfield, with RBs that complement each others well, that's a too high price to ignore. Kendrick Lewis is in the same situation: crowded position, below average play,  and almost 1M savings.
3) I don't get why everybody keeps listing Reynolds within the top 53 players on the roster. There's no way he can contribute after switching to a completely new position, nor he will help as a gunner or in any way on ST, which Waller will.

If i just stopped before to mention K. Lewis I'd be 3 on 3 right here :D

On a side note, I didn't really expect Sheldon Price to make the cut, nor I expected us to bring 7 CBs through the beginning of the season..sure something will happen but as of now that's a surprise.

Hey guys I was away fishing with no internet for some time and I'd like to know what happened to Camp ? When did he injured his calf ? He's on IR before the 53 that means he's done for the season right ? If that's a yes they should probably just cut him

Anyway I mentionned a few times back in june/july the possibility of cutting Forsett and maybe resigning him...

- Pierce made the team... they wanna make a statement to B.W in negociations.

- Carter made the team thats surprising a bit.

- I liked that they kept S. Price he played good imo in coverage. They made the mistake the last few years in cutting some CBs and they didnt wanna do it again this year they kept lots of them lol. Its a shame Butler is gone but at the end of the day, he was behind SSS, Aiken, Wallace, Perriman, Moore so he wouldnt have seen lots of snaps. And if some WRs get injured they can bring him back anytime if he's still on Tampa PS.

Apparently Camp got kicked in the calf at practice the week prior and played through the injury.  I think the Ravens just got tired of the injury history and moved him to IR.  Maybe he gets an injury settlement at some point since it's not truly a season ending injury, but right now, he's done for the year.

Number changes galore for those interested and wanting to prepare for Sunday, since it'll look like we have an all new secondary:

Ryan Mallett is now 15, was 7
Mike Wallace is now 17, was 12
Maurice Canady is now 39, was 49
Will Davis is now 31, was 39
Jerraud Powers is now 26, was 36
Shareece Wright is now 24, was 35
Tavon Young is now 36, was 43

And it looks like these IR guys gave up their numbers for some guys listed above:

Matt Elam is now 33, was 26
Kyle Arrington is now 35, was 24
Michael Campanaro is now 12, was 15

Congrats to January J for being the best guesser.  Do you know tonight's MegaMillions numbers?

Yeah I wish. I'm usually terribly unlucky.

They told me I was two players off ( I'm guessing campanaro and forsett) and that I actually TIED with 9 other people but mine was submitted first.

Almost wrecked my truck when I got the call I was so shocked.

Why does camp even have a new # if he's done for the year?

Looks like he just gave yup his number to Mallett and they had to give him another formal jersey number for the NFL's sake.  He could always be released with an injury settlement and return though.

Per Harb's presser yesterday @ the 10:40 mark, he said he was "released, injured" and is a "free agent".
