Welcome to Baltimore Maurice Canady, Round 6, Pick 209

Great measurables, but the tape was spotty at best.  Of course, with him being a Raven now though, I hope nothing but the best for him.

Absolutely has the measurables can be inconsistent but has shown the capability to be a Playmaker I hope he does well. I know his Dad and thought he may get drafted by us after he visited most projections had him as a late 3rd to 4th round pick so i feel we got nice value getting him at the end of the 6th

Don't know much about Canady, but seems to have good measurables like everybody has noted. I hope he's able to translate to the NFL and play down the road.

Measurables are great.

A saw an article talking about "true height" of all CB players in this draft (takes into account height, arm length and vertical) and Canady was the 3rd best CB in the draft. Ramsey was the number 1.

The only thing that concerns me is the "soft" label. I mean, If you're not tough, the Ravens is not place for you.

At first watching the press conference, I thought wow this guy looks a lot like Torrey Smith. So I looked into it.
torrey smith: 4.43 40 yard dash 126 broad jump 4.13 20 yard shuttle
maurice canady: 4.49 40 yard dash 124broadjump4.09 20 yard shuttle
scouting report summaries on both: struggles with toughness, both long arms
both; struggles with press coverage, both returners at college level
 both bornin richmond, va

Below are pictures.

Come on I can't be the only one? Maybe we can get a similar player out of him :P

Torrey Smith is a WR and Maurice Canady is a CB...

irrelevant. physically and mentally they seem EXTREMELY similar, not to mention in my opinion identical looks. I am wishing success and leadership on and off the field to Maurice similar to Torrey. Although if Maurice scored 7 TDs in his rookie year, I'd be pretty happy.

Dude's been showing up at minicamps. Been getting some tough interceptions. Anyone that molds their game after Sherman is someone I'm excited to have on this team.

Yeah I loved that answer from him at the presser, good guy to model his game after considering they have similar body types. Canady just needs reps, reps, and more reps. Bet he get's plenty of burn in preseason, if he can improve his football IQ and technique we could have a steal on our hands. Easier said than done of course.

The big thing against Canady, in my opinion is his lack of toughness. His tape is very up and down. Will make some outstanding plays and will offer some bad plays but I think this could be a bad coaching/inexperience thing.

But the lack of toughness is a bit alarming. He needs to add lean muscle A LOT. I havent seen him live at all but you could tell by the videos he's skinny and not very strong. He's a good project tho he's very light on his feet I like that but I think he was a bit better mentally in 2014. Last year he was playing scared and not confident  enough for the type of corner I like. He was playing a bit like year 1-2 Jimmy Smith, way off the WR, didn't locate the ball when beat. To gain his confidence I would play him in zone, cover 2 schemes, let him see the field, make some plays, build his confidence before you ask him to turn his back on the ball. But he would need to be A LOT more agressive in defeating blocks he if plays the flat zone.

Put him in the weight room and film room and he could pan out he's got everyone you ask for a corner. He's more a 1-2 year project

Sounds a lot like Sherman coming out. Now I'm in no way saying Canady has those types of expectations or capabilities, just similar body type. When you have the type of length Canady has I don't think weight/strength is a big issue, he just needs to get a better understanding of leverage and raise his overall football IQ. I think his shortcomings as a player are far more mental than physical, luckily Leslie Fraizer is a great DB coach and can teach him a lot. I wouldn't expect much his rookie year but long term I think he Canady could start to "click" mentally and become a formidable CB2.

Sherman:

6'3

32 in arms

195 lbs.

Bench Press: 16 reps

Canady:

6'1

31 5/8 arms

193 lbs

Bench Press: 16 reps

I don't agree at all with the Sherman comp. Sherman was/is over confident, cocky fiesty CB. Even in his draft year he was a fighter and woulnt allow screens for big gains. Canady is playing soft and not fighting blockers unlike Sherman. Thats a different mentality at all. Canady doenst have the desire Sherman has.

Young is more like Sherman in that way he's a tough, fiesty confident corner. I'm talking the way they play and the mentality I'm not talking physical comp at all.

I had a LOT of problems to find a comp to Canady but I think a mix of Tracy Porter and Jason Verrett might be the closest thing I've found.

I don't think anyone is comparing him to Sherman or saying he will be the next Sherman. We're just saying that his measurable's are similar and it's cool that Canady looks up to him and wants to mold his game after him.
