Kinda Ticked off about this whole Ravens/Tunsil ordeal

Yeah, it definitely was. Wouldn't surprise me if the Titans had Conkiln a number of spots below Tunsil on their board. But, they made whatever choice was best for them. Overall, I'm happy we didn't take Tunsil in hindsight.

I think the difference for Tennessee is that they didn't necessarily have to be finding a LT... they just wanted a good tackle. Both Stanley and Tunsil project as future LTs, whereas Conklin, by many projections, figures to be an elite RT long term.

Tennessee still has Taylor Lewan, who has been good but not great, primarily at RT though. They can pretty much just see who the better LT is between the two and put the other one on the right side and feel good about it. If they drafted Tunsil or Stanley, its sort of a permanent move to RT for Lewan, and I'm not sure if they were interested in that or not.

As am I.  We already have a LT with injury issues.  Tunsil played in 6 games last year if I remember correctly.  I wouldn't have been mad if we still took Tunsil, I could understand it either way.  Personally I would of went for Stanley first....even before the video.

Ahhh, that makes a lot of sense now.

I would have been fine with Tunsil too, but yeah, the injuries, the video, the family drama... Just seems we made the better choice right now. We'll see how it pans out, but from what I've seen of Stanley, he's really good right now with plenty of room to grow.

Yea, time will tell.  He is the only player I got right on my mock draft.

I'd be more concerned about this if we took Conklin over Tunsil. There is a real difference in talent there. Stanley I personally believe will be the better long term option

I think Tunsil gave up 5 pressures for the entire string of games he played in this year. Going against guys like Myles Garrett, Arden Key, Emmanuel Ogbah, and Carl Lawson.

Pretty sure Lewan has played LT primarily, think all of his snaps were at LT last year.

I.M.H.O. Tunsil is a TOOL guy knows he is being interviewed for a very high paying job and pulls this. Heck even Manzel the total TOOL  tried keeping his name clear right before the draft  and he is an idiot to the 10th degree right along with his team mate Gordon both of those guys just don't care. Until draft day morning all I heard about Tunsil was he had an altercation with his stepfather but then all this other stuff started surfacing where there is smoke there is fire. I am happy Oz and his staff went with Stanley. No off field drama and means he has a lot of time to hone his skill.

And it's not just us. The most talented tackle of the draft got selected at 13th.

Titans trades up to pick concklin over him. I see that titans did not need a LT but people were talking about Tunsil like he is one of a kind, better prospect than Ramsey, Bosa everyone. You don't pass on this guy just because you need a RT not LT.

Even if in 3 years Tunsil becomes an elite LT and Stanley losts his job I would not say anything to our FO. He was the right pick.

"pulls this" what exactly did he pull if you don't mind me asking?

Well, he did make a video of him smoking weed (my 5 year old knows the reasons not to do that) and he also outed his University and coaches in an interview for paying his rent (which I'm sure his alma mater is just o so thrilled about).

I suppose you could argue he's somehow a "victim" in all of this, but then again, all of this is just a consequence of his own actions.

Hardly the victim anyway. The guy get taken 13th overall in the NFL draft is going to get probably $12-13M guaranteed with a very large signing bonus. Lets stop pretending like this guys life is ruined.

Like I said the only thing I heard before the draft was a spat between him and his step father and you only heard 1 side of that altercation remember there are always 2 sides to every situation when dealing with people. Then a video surfaces of him using drugs and him and his agent say oh that was years ago boy he sure did not look too much younger in the video than he does now. So can we add misleading or just flat out lying to things he and his agent pulled  oh and by the way his account got hacked some B.S. like that I would like to know how he answered the NFL teams who interviewed him when he was asked Have you ever used illegal drugs? I am pretty sure that is a common question asked by teams looking at potential draft selections.. It's almost as bad as when Suh said I was pushed and that's why I stepped on the Packer player all along ESPN and NFL network showing the play in slow motion  loop form. Not all people are  stupid so like I said Where there is smoke there is fire. His agent is paid to say anything he can to help him out. It's no different than when your serving on jury duty and they bring in the accused all spiffed up a fresh haircut and nice clothes first imprecisions ya my client did not do it I know he has 6 priors and you have a video of it butmy client did not do it. Or try this one on I did not have sex with that woman....Tunsil is a TOOL maybe he grows up but I would rather have Oz take a chance on Jack than Tunsil at that point in the draft...

Soooo....

Much like Ray Rice...the video is the thing that pushes the whole smoking incident over the top..because at face value..minus the tape...we have a 19 year old smoking weed. That would've been fine if not for the video right?

And he took money from a coach for his moms light bill...horrible. How many teams passed up on Cam Newton for that same thing...better question how little do you think the Panthers now care about that ??

And he was a victim..I highly believe that he's either in SD or Baltimore right now had his ex financial advisor or whoever it was didn't sabotage him..

And your absolutely right I don't feel bad for him in the long run..he's a millionaire living in Miami...but he was kinda vilified that night.

See even your 5 Year old is making better decisions than this guy it's called common sense and being raised up right. I know people make mistakes but when you do you learn from them and make the best of it. Hopefully Tunsil gets his act straightened out and has a long prosperous career. But right now I am just happy we got Stanley.

1.Tunsil was the best Tackle in the draft according to College EXPERTS that I had seen describe the competition field.

2. It wasn't until closer to the draft that I started hearing rumblings Stanley might be getting viewed at as an equal. BUT still, the college EXPERTS were still saying Tunsil was best.

3. The trades up top happen and now you start to hear Tunsil could go 3 or 6. Stanley is still projected as top 12..some believe maybe he can slide in top 7 or 8 if things play out right.

Also the incident with his step father is not new at this point.

4. Enter draft night..pictures surface... Reports are going wild that teams are either taking him off their boards completely or not willing to spend a high pick on him. ( this is my first issue)

5.Balt picks Stanley....OK so I'm blah on the pick ..but mainly because I'm not sure if its A. Because of Tunsil ordeal or B. Because they just like Stanley better.

6. Then you see titans do the same thing...they have even less of an excuse to pass on Tunsil...Conklin though good was widely regarded as the #3 tackle in the draft...so you definitely know the weed affected at least 1 team maybe two.

And no I don't care what GMs and coaches say after the pick..they all cover their butts ..if in fact they did want tunsil their not gonna come out and say it.

Hell we basically caught Jerry Jones in a lie when he said he talked to us and we let him know we were taking Zeke. We wanted Ramsey.

If this is about Tunsil being injured alot ...I can live with that..

If this is about Stanley TRULY being rated higher I can live with that as well...

But If this is ...we didnt draft him BC he has a lot of some character concerns ..I can't live with that..

I usually don't reference what college experts say, it's their opinion at the end of the day and they have been WAY OFF AND WRONG plenty of times.....that being said, Stanley IS a better run blocker and we struggled running the ball. A successful running team helps every single aspect of the team. Defense stays off the field longer and Joe isn't asked to make something out of nothing with the talent he's had due to injury. The return of the play action long ball threat with all the returning players and empassis on being more athletic. All can be made possible with a line that can help the run game....

Stanley to me can offer that to us even if Tunsil can protect Flacco a bit better

1. Yes, it would have been fine. Are you that naive that you think reading about a guy punching his wife in the paper is exactly the same as actually seeing a guy punch his wife?

If you want to really be serious about it... one instance shows him making one poor judgment, and the other shows him making TWO poor judgments. Smoking weed as a 19 year old is a poor judgment in his case. Smoking weed as a 19 year old AND allowing somebody to video him doing it is TWO poor judgments.

So, not the same.

2. Another apples to oranges comparison. Can you show me the video of the press conference where Cam Newton admitted that he took benefits from Auburn, because I must have missed that one? Claiming a bunch of unproven speculation is the same as a guy, voluntarily, admitting (on draft night... on TV) that his alma mater violated NCAA rules? O, that's right, its not.

The Dolphins don't care about about what Tunsil did or didn't take at Ole Miss, and the Ravens probably wouldn't either. What they may care about is what kind of person outs his School at a very convenient time when he is literally the only person immune to punishment for it? How convenient. Now, luckily for him, all of this happened after he was drafted, but just chalk that up to another "character" question mark.

In fact, this whole notion of Tunsil being a victim is highly ironic. On one hand, he's an alleged "victim" because somebody posts an unflattering video of him breaking the law. On the other hand, Tunsil himself makes his alma mater a "victim" because now that school is going to face significant discipline from the NCAA for breaking their rules, which could easily include people losing their job, hefty fines, loss of scholarships, etc.

That's hilarious. He goes from being the victim to being in the same role as the ex financial advisor in a matter of hours. Tunsil is the guy that sabotaged Ole Miss.

So what did we learn? He's a hero and a villain, and he's not alone. He "loses" $7M or whatever it is. I wonder how much his ex-HC stands to lose because of what he said?

Well they are all related. Stanley rated higher because tunsil has injury and character problems. Skill gap between them was not that big to pick Tunsil.

If you don't care about GMs and coaches say after they pick... then you will literally never, ever know what the reason we picked Stanley over Tunsil was.

So, in short, you're simply going to have to live with it. You have no other choice.

I'm also a little confused as to why this "character concern" issue is such a big problem for you. You do realize the NFL takes "character concerns" about as seriously as most employers on this planet do right? Do you think there are many employers on this planet who would hire somebody after seeing a video of them smoke weed online? When it comes to tolerance of character concerns, I'd rank professional sports as among some of the most "lenient" employers and businesses in this country.

Why do you think many employers actively spend time looking at job candidates social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to find out information about them? This is the real world. This notion of "what I do on my time is private" just simply doesn't cut it. When you work for somebody, and in particular, when that employer is paying you a gigantic sum of money, you are a reflection of that organization in 100% of things that you do.

I heard it on NFL Network

Could have been that particular analyst had him at 8; I'm not entirely sure.

This was a funny read.  Mock drafts had Tunsil higher so clearly he's better.  That's pure logic there (/s).  Almost all mocks had Treadwell as the best WR and top pick for many months, and then he ends up being the 4th or 5th WR drafted.  Myles Jack was a top 5 pick even with the knee injury and was definitely going before Jaylon Smith who wouldn't even play this year.

Remember those many mocks that had Antonio Brown as the #1 WR of his draft?

How can you not fathom that its a combination of all of the above, not just one single incident.

When you have two players roughly ranked 1 and 2 and its not that far apart to some, why would you want the guy with a massive injury history, off the field DV stuff (protecting his mom yes i know), a video of him smoking pot released 5 mins before the draft starts over the guy that has ZERO concerns.

Seems that you bank on mock drafts being the end all be all....have fun not living with these issues year in and year out.

Tunsil kept getting hurt and served a suspension. I think those things weighed more heavily than the video. The video was simply one more thing on top of the others to make the Ravens think he would be a bad choice. Other top drafting teams apparently agreed with the Ravens on that matter.

I will never defend the schools for what they do and how they get their players. I think the whole NCAA is a joke to begin with, Tunsil broke the rules and someone leaked it out. He then opted to tell the truth, something nobody ever does under this "no snitching". First of all, thats a rule for the streets and dudes who run them....not a kid who plays football.

He was in the wrong, and it seems like he knew someone was going to continue to leak out info on him so he did what he should have and said it himself before someone else did.

Well, sort of.

I suppose we could give him props for not "lying about it" and fessing up to it, but its also not that simple.

For starters, he didn't just voluntarily come out and admit this out of the blue... he was asked by reporters who already had this information, and he admitted to doing it. While I agree that NCAA rules are stupid, you can't claim ignorance or convince yourself that its OK to break the rules purely because you don't agree with them. There's virtually no employer in this country that would tolerate that.

And most importantly... the timing of this is the real problem. He confesses to breaking the rules at practically the exact time where HE, and he alone, is just about the only person who will not face any punishment whatsoever from this. None. The NCAA can't touch him, and the NFL rightfully doesn't care.

That's the case for some of his former coaches, teammates, and University. They will all bare the brunt of the consequences for both their own and for Tunsil's actions.

Or, just put yourself in the position of that assistant coach that helped him. A player that plays for you is in need of money for rent, and he seeks you out for help. Being a nice guy, you help him out. Then, years later, that same player, in order to "tell the truth", tells your boss that you broke rules by doing so, knowing full well that he can't get punished for it.

In what segment of society is that considered "right" or "acceptable"? Streets, football, or otherwise?

The video looked bad. Nobody is saying it did not. However you have to consider there is a difference in a college dude that smokes weed at a party and a pothead that is a failed drug test away from suspension'(S). Will Hill being a team friendly deal is not the question here. It is do you believe in giving college kids a chance or not. Do you wanna  expell  anybody from your team that has ever smoked weed?? If there is a worry that he is a pothead and will fail drug tests then I can agree with that. If management says you smoked weed or got in a fight and says we do not want you on the team then that is plain wrong. Besides diluting your talent by taking lesser talented players because he is squeaky clean, these are 18-21 yr olds. Young kids sometimes do stupid things. And you have to be sure he has the skills to play in the league foremost. What looks like a touch difference in skills in college is usually vast in the nfl!!  Like I said if he looks like a pothead/total troublemaker loser then I totally agree with management with not drafting him!!

Before kicking a talented player off draft plans the team needs to be sure he is a pothead/troublemaker. Tunsil is the better player now. Ron Stanley has the upside and will be better if he packs some muscle on. But he actually has to do it. If he fails and struggles in the nfl and Tunsil becomes an all Pro left tackle it will look really bad on management. Cuz it is their job to decide if a player will be a bust cuz of drama or if is just an incident.  If Spence is an elite edge rusher and Correa busts then that is on management cuz it is management's job to decide. However Correa should at least be a good lb.

The whole NCAA and college relationships with certain athletes bothers me. On one hand I can understand a coach helping out the kids, Arian Foster and his teammates went to bed hungry and he mentioned calling the coach and warning him they may do something stupid for food. Coach drove up in his new Lexus and got them all tacos. I remember seeing an interview and that's how he said it lol.

Somebody hacked his account apparently and leaked a 300 dollar bill that his mother needed the coaches to pay...

I pulled this from Espn

"The NCAA determined that Tunsil improperly used three loaner cars without paying during a six-month period, received two nights of lodging at a local home, accepted an airline ticket purchased by a friend of a teammate and used a rental car for one day without paying. The NCAA also alleged that Tunsil received an interest-free, four-month loan to make a $3,000 down payment for a used car."

They were going to get this kid, he fessed up earlier. Reference what happened to Reggie Bush.

I'm not against the kids receiving help, it's just that it's illegal because of what the NCAA says and they get penalized...as does the school. Sucks on both sides to be honest, but it is what it is....I can't get mad at him for that, they were all going down.

I guess this being his first shot at making big money and losing out on it scared him, it's a bad situation and hope the coaches come out of this....the NCAA needs to go, this whole we can't take care of players and it's all about the academics is NONSENSE.
