Welcome to Baltimore, Matt Judon, Round 5

65 posts in this topic

Super pumped about this kid. He killed the small school division and that's what you want to see from a prospect from the small school system. He had a great Combine, too.

Matt Judon looks like a cross between CJ Mosley and Elvis Dumervil, lol.

Hopefully he PLAYS like both.

Judon is a great pickup.  He's a bit on the raw side but has great size, speed, and strength for the position.

This sadly is my favorite pick in the draft. I liked the Stanley pick just because Franchise LTs are hard to find and he will be a beast for us. Unfortunately I felt like there was better players sitting there with all of our other picks. Not the worst draft we have had but also not the best draft either, my only hope is we got that swarm of injury bugs finally out of the Castle.

Funny thing is that outside of the fans, the early views on the Ravens draft is that they nailed it. Got great value with all their picks and selected guys who fit their style of doing things.

Judon seems like a really good pick. He'll have a real shot at making this team imo. He looks to be a guy with good football smarts and I think the coaches will ove working with him.

That's because non fans can be unbiased.  Fans simply stick to the "I would have rather had ____" mindset.

One guy who I'm glad to see that hated it - Mike Preston.

This guy will be a beast in the future. Just hope he doesn't finally become good on his last year of his rookie deal then goes to another team. Always happens

Yea it's crazy. Ozzie isn't perfect but I have yet to see Mr. B hold open contest to find the next Ravens scout.

I was just watching ESPN and they were talking about how this draft turned out to be very deep in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. Interestingly enough, DeCosta said last week that the 4th round would make or break this draft. Knowing this it's no surprise the Ravens picked up so many 4th rounders and attempted to get back in the 3rd round.

I haven't read anything from that guy in 4 years. Honestly didn't know he was still reporting on the Ravens lol

i agree with you. most exciting for sure. 6'3 280 4.7 40 and 31 reps on bench? kids a freak of nature. MUCH more of a physical specimen than anyone else we drafted including correa and kouffisi.

The heater came in on a 2-0 count right over the center of the plate with no movement and you whiffed completely.  Not even close.

Judon is a dead ringer for a young T. Sizzle. No other comparison gets points.

When the Combine Pants will not adequately cover a players butt, you know you got power.  Big man's pants don't even fit him, cuz they are too small.

This guy is a hitter and like most of this year's class is relentless.

He has moves as an edge rusher. Let's get these pass rushers in the rotation early.

I've been very hapoy with this draft but I see a lot of hype on this kid and I just watched some quick film and came off unimpressed. He doesn't seem to get off the ball fast at all. His step is slow and he times the snap inconsistent.

He has hands like he came from a big ten school though, he makes lightwork of the tackles outside shoulder frequently. I love His underhook.

i saw people compare spence with correa in other thread. I think Judon is a better comparison with spence. I was watching the career highlights of both and they look pretty similar. Of course they were not in the same division..

What do you guys think? Are they comparable?

This is true - one of them has us in the Top 5 for nailing the draft. We got talent and I think we've built for the future no doubt - just do not see that big play instant coffee we needed and were promised. That could be why some fans are also not feeling it as well.

He reminds me of ZaDarius Smith but he's hard to grade because the competition level is so poor.

Matt is super humble guy and big time team first player.  I hope he pans out not many people are as deserving as Matt, really good guy.  I am pulling for him 100%!

That is because the media and commentators love the high character players and over rate them. Derrick Morgan should never of been a round pick but he is high character and got talked up

The thing about instant coffee is you don't really know where it'll come from. Torrey Smith wasn't intended to be instant coffee after struggling in camp, however he took off against the Rams and never looked back. Flacco wasn't supposed to be instant coffee but started day one.

Instant coffee isn't determined by the name that was drafted, it's about what they'll do to instantly help the team get better. I think some fans mistake the term instant coffee to mean instant Super Bowl or hype.

Stanley "should" instantly improve the oline, which improves the passing and running game.

Correa and Bronson "should" instantly help the defense put pressure on the QB. Are they huge names? No, but names nor collegiate production never made successful NFL players. If that were true every Heisman trophy winner would be an NFL star. Every guy that lead college in sacks would do so in the NFL. Fact of the matter is we don't know who'll be instant coffee until we see them play. Perriman was instant coffee last year but someone forgot to brew him because he didn't even play. So that term is just that a term. Let's see these guys get on the field and play because Keenan Reynolds could end up being the instant coffee as a slot and returner from day one and he was a late rounder.

OK so are fans not more prone to love the collegiate names they are most familiar with? Do fans and even teams at time overrate a guy who crushed the combine?

Fact is nobody knows how this draft it any other draft will play out until these guys actually play. Big names and flash doesn't make a draft successful, it just gives the allure that it was successful because it has flash.

Everybody wants the next Ray Lewis or Ed Reed right? But each one of those picks were met with some type of backlash. Ray was undersized and was like the 7th LB selected that Year. Ed was viewed as nothing spectacular, just a decent safety. Knowing what we know now it's no way you don't draft them at the top of the 1st but teams saw other bigger names as better then them.

Also the Ravens didn't just draft high character choir boys. They drafted some really good and potential special talent. But you can't blame them for drafting high character guys and wanting to be that type of team. Imo

What I am hoping is that Judon (and Ochi) absolutely make themselves indispensable on special teams. If they dress on Sunday they will get a chance to play defensive snaps.

Pre-season football is going to be fun to watch this year( I think it's fun every year).

Might see Judon and Ochi together.

Can you be to our edge rushing corps what Brandon Williams became for our D-line? There were a lot of similarities between the two of you in college in terms of production, but can you bring it to the NFL like Brandon did? I believe you can, but show us.

What film did you watch? His first step isn't slow. He's pretty fast to the ball. If anything he is mentally slow to react at times and diagnose, which is an instincts issue. Hopefully those develop.

The first comment is a Patriots fan talking about how great a draft we put together. Stop making things up.
