It is SO damn amusing that our own fans praise JAX for taking a chance onĀ Yannick Ngakoue, but spew hate to our own FO for taking Correa over Spence.

Some people may like those guys better than Correa(personally haven't watched Correa and thought both Yannick and SpenceĀ were overhyped on here but a lot of people really liked those guys pre-draft). Any particular reason it is amusing?

well they took ngakoue in round 3 and we took correa in round 2.

doubt anyone would complain if we took correa in round 3 although i doubt he would make it that far.

id rather take correa over spence as well though but not over jack.

I am not a fan of Spence, and have been of the opinion the Ravens were not interested. Spence had too high a price. Yannick was projected late 3rd to 4th round. I actually like Correa over Yannick, but I would prefer Jack.

Also a cb earlier would have been nice. But who would I return for say Kendall Fuller? A couple 4th rounders?

Bottom line I am simply saying I like what the Jags did.

I'm also largely happy with the Ravens haul.

Where we got correa compared to where Jax got ngakoue makes it look like Jax reached. I personally don't think ngakoue pans out

Interesting, what makes you say that? Im sure you remember I was big on him.Ā

Ā

And just because someone says they like the Jags draft doesn't mean they hate the Ravens draft....From what im hearing we picked up 4 good pass rushers in KC, Kafusi, Judon, Ochi

Ngakoue just shows some stuff on film that makes me question whether he's got what it takes in the nfl. He's got some of the most hit or miss film I've ever seen where he looks God awful on most snaps and then on occasion he blows by a tackle for a sack.

I love Ngakoue and I am a Maryland Terp homer but I wouldn't want him in the 3rd round. I felt it was too high. I thought he should go in the 4th and went back and forth some on it but his value is the 4th round and I think the Jaguars reached on him and I thought this once they took him. I was quite surprised.

Agreed. I think the jags draft is getting way too much praise. They were picking at 5 and jalen Ramsey was available, good for them. But then with Myles Jack you have a guy that the whole league passed on, it's easy to say now "They took a risk and it was a good one because he's a stud" but what tune will folks be singing if he can't play as a rookie? And then they make a full round reach on ngakoue who has a very real chance of never panning out when they desperately needed a OT or a CB and there were solid guys on the board still.Ā

I think a lot of the praise comes from the names they got, im guilty at this as well.Ā  I really wanted Jack and Ngakoue and for them to get those two plus Ramsey is kind of exciting.Ā  Looks good on paper now, but like you said...we have to see what these players become.Ā

If Jack and Ramsey live up to the hype and transition well and stay healthy then regardless of the rest of the draft class, it would be a tremendous class. Sheldon Day looks promising as well, but I love our class, especially Stanley, Henry, Dixon, and I am warming up to Correa. Pees needs to get the new defenders ready for chaos!Ā

I think the Jaguars' took two of the riskiest players with their first two picks. Ramsey is more of than athlete than a great player, as shown by his lack of splash plays. He could turn out to be amazing, or a disappointment. And Jack might never play at the speed he used to, or he'll be the best linebacker in the NFL. Very high potential for reward, but it's far from a sure bet.

As RaineV1 said, this is a huge case of potential risk vs reward. Clearly the Jaguars, a team on the rise with several big free agent additions, felt it was able to take those type of risks. Ramsey has got to find a home and I think it'll be at safety over corner, honestly, just because when I watch him, he's very impressive with leveraging his man to the boundary and always keeping his eyes on the quarterback, but when guys are able to explode off the line and get to the inside, it's not as great. I think he's going to be a damn good strong safety who can use his speed to erase tight ends, blitz, defend the run, and essentially play a rover type role. I really do like that pick if he can just find a home.

With Jack, I know a lot of Jaguars fans and some analysts are treating it like it was no big deal for an injury, but a meniscus tear takes about 3-4 months to heal with surgery and Jack was having these chondral defects something like six, seven months later, so it is a major area of concern. Will he play again? Absolutely. However, how well will he play upon return? Will his knee bother him? What happens when that cartilage rubs away entirely from the intense rigors of the NFL and his bone rubs on bone? I know a lot of those fans want to treat it like it's no big deal, but as Ravens fans know with Pitta, a repeat injury, especially something that has a pre-existing condition, can happen at any time and essentially derail your career.

With Ngakoue, I just can't get too behind it because Jacksonville is almost assuredly going to ask him to be an on ball linebacker and he has very little length as compared to what you'd want, so he's going to get locked out a lot by defenders. On top of that, he's a short strider without much real burst and many of his sacks were just because he went unblocked or the Terps secondary covered for so long.

On paper, the Jaguars got two top 10 players in the first 36 picks and they got a pass rush specialist in the third, but a lot of that will depend on their DB finding a true home and their ILB trusting his knee and not sustaining further damage.

Ramsey will not live up all those expectations because of the program the Jaguars run. Prolific coaching isn't what there are known. I also wasn't as high as most after seeingĀ film of his tackling style and propensity to start quacking after a stop leads me to believe he'll be a penalty nightmare. He's already cocky without playing a single down in the NFL. After he's burned by an AB or Bryant I'm wondering if he won't questioning his own game as well as the draftniks and pundits.

I'm routing foe Jack because he seems humble and hungry to succeed to prove to himself he didn't suffer a career ending injury and hopes to have great career.

I like underdogs and he's one of two which includes my boy Smitty.
