[News] Byrne Identity: Here's What Happened In Ravens Draft Room Last Night

47 posts in this topic

Ramsey DOES translate to wins. What the heck? are you guys talking about? Did you not watch our secondary blow two 14 point leads vs NE in the playoffs a few years back? Did you not watch us give up a franchise record 30 passing touchdowns last year? That we had a NFL low 6 interceptions? You give up whatever it takes to get a guy like Ramsey. I'm not knocking Stanley but he was not an immediate need. Secondary is an immediate need and now there is no good corners left for us to grab.

I don't see the big deal about giving up several 3rd - 4th round picks. In recent years Ozzie has not drafted any impact pro bowlers with those picks. He passed on stefon diggs with multiple 4th rounders so what makes you think he knows what he's doing still?

This will be G o ld if Ra msey doesn't become the "generational" player you claim.

I don't see a single generational player in this entire draft.

Agreed. on the outside looking in ramsey Looks enticing but I dont Think hes All Hes cracked up to be. We made The smart safest Pick any way you look at it. The way things panned out Our hands were pretty tied anyway..only other Option really was buckner And we didnt Even have him in For a Predraft visit so we must not have been too keen on him. Easy to say we couldve Traded up or back but it takes two to trade and it wouldve been idiotic to give up more picks from the second-4th rounds where the bread and butter of depth in this draft is for one player who is nowhere near a sure thing. Some People even have the audacity to say it was stupid To pass on jack, when Obviously the entire nfl  Felt the same way and now we have a real chance to nab him in the second..just Leave it to the Guys who do this For a living.

Let me start this off by asking you to name ANY teams that select pro bowl players annually in the third and fourth rounds. You aren't looking for pro bowl level players with those picks, you are hoping to find developmental level talent that can at least sub in and if you are lucky, to start for your team. Not sure what your cut off is for "recent" but let me go back at least a few years:

2010: 3rd: Ed Dickson (not good) 4th Dennis Pitta (was great save for freak injury, but I think we all know he would have had a great career if that had never happened) 5th: Arthur Jones: Good sub in DE/DT for us, future is up in the air after freak injury with the Colts.

2011: 3rd: Jah Reid (wash out with us, but starter for KC who signed him to a new deal, they like him), 4th: Tandon Doss (not good), 5th: Pernell McPhee (very good, was great in CHI last season), 5th: Chykie Brown (not good), 6th: Tyrod Taylor (had a great year with Bills).

2012: Not a good year for us, 3rd: Bernard Pierce, 4th: Gino Gradkowski and Christian Thompson.

2013: Brandon Williams (great), 4th: John Simon (done nothing), & Kyle Juszczyck (starting FB), 5th: Ricky Wagner (starting RT), 6th: Karpon Lewis-Moore (injury marred career so far), & Ryan Jensen (started at LG for us last year).

2014: 3rd: Terrence Brooks (injuries) & Crockett Gillmore (good), 4th: Bent Urban and Lorenzo Taliafero (both show promise but injuries), 5th: John Urschel (show some promise at G/C).

2015: Little too soon to tell on these guys of course but:
3rd: Carl Davis: Ravens are high on this DT/DE hybrid.
4th: Za'Darius Smith: Recorded 5.5 sacks in a part time role.
4th: Javorius "Buck" Allen": Showed some promise out of the backfield.
4th: Tray Walker: showing promise before his unfortunate passing.

Clearly Ozzie doesn't know what he's doing. He's only found a TE that without his injury issues probably would have made a few pro bowls and would have had a great career, some starting defensive ends, starting offensive linemen, and a starting QB in the mid to late rounds of the draft. He needs to retire now for the good of the Ravens....

If Jalen Ramsey is a once in a generation player (3 picks in as many years in college).... Then I need some of whatever it is Tunsil and apparently some of you are smoking.

The only thing that's going on in that draft room is Ozzy is trying to dig himself out of draft/ contract hole that the Ravens are in and also with one hand tied behind his back. Ravens are not allowed to select alpha male players. Who on this team reminds you of any out spoken alpha player that was on the 2012 Superbowl Team? Ravens use to have a Gen Patton and like minded players now not so much. Kinder gentler neutered Ravens Team.

i needed a good laugh. thank you

Yeah, because we really need ourselves some loud mouth idiot ranting and raving after games to the media to make our team look like a bunch of jerks. I'd rather them bark at each other away from the camera thank you very much.

You are really something but what I still have yet to figure out.

I've got it figured out but if I posted it I would probably get some warning points from the moderators.

This kinda made me sick to read. I didn't realize Dallas was actually fielding offers, I was under the impression we offered and they didn't want to budge. Ozzie should've given up WHATEVER they wanted for Ramsey, he's that kind of player. Wow, I'm speechless, how do you get stingy when you have a once in a generation player there for the taking. Such a travesty, Ramsey is an amazing amazing prospect.

And that's just what Ramsey is: A prospect. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Ramsey to be a Raven. But I didn't want us to give up the ship to get him. The guy is an above average physical athlete, true, but "once in a generation player" is pushing things, in my opinion, and obviously ours and the teams that drafted ahead of JAX. opinions also.

There is a lot of sizzle with Ramsey but I've yet to see the steak. On one of his highlights of a pass he breaks up he's actually burned by the receiver and the QB severely underthrows his target. If he hit him in stride he would have gone to the house.

Physically he's a once in a generation guy. He's got height, he's got speed, and he's got insanely long arms. I didn't see a lot of turnovers though and that's precisely what they are claiming he is, a playmaker.

I'm not saying he won't be good. But there is also a chance we just drafted a multi-time pro bowl franchise LT...and that ain't bad.

Go follow the Steelers or Bengals or whoever.

Whats wrong with wanting what the Ravens were founded on? Why does everything have to become "Progressive" I know, just sit down and have another glass of purple Kool aid to wash down the crap their peddling and dream of yesterday.

I hear ya on the prog losers in this country. BUT the Ravens took a real good player in Stanley...

Did you not watch the end of the season where they were #1 in pass D? Guess not...

terrible draft- everyone says wait for 3 years--- for what? By the time they play well in the third year, they're too good, and then we can't afford to keep them because of poor cap management. we need players that can be good in year 1-2. But instead, we trade back and get special team players- Oz needs to go

The Tuncil  'incident' is several levels of stupidity
1. Doing anything that could jeopardize your entire career
2. Letting somebody video you doing it
3. Keeping people in your inner circle this stupid
4. Making  your social media so easy to hack.

Being past the 4th level of stupid makes Tuncil too great a risk for the Ravens. The wise Oz knows.

I emphasize on #2! If your stupid enough to let someone tape you while your getting high then.....

Really?

you gotta be the dumbest son of a gun out there to cost yourself about 10 million dollars. Enjoy being a dolphin...

Sad, the Ravens are scared of what they'll say if they go with a guy with some past issues. Man up, guys deserve chances to turn things around.
