[News] Byrne Identity: Here's What Happened In Ravens Draft Room Last Night

"Jacksonville was next. “They’re taking Jalen Ramsey,” DeCosta said. (Ramsey and Elliott were near the top of our list.)"

Ramsey was NEAR the top of our list??? We know Tunsil wasn't on the top, we know Stanley wasn't on the top (because Ozzie or DeCosta would have surely mentioned that during the presser...), Buckner and Jack were surely not on the top (as we chose Stanley over them) - and according to this, Ramsey was not on the top (only near it) - who was then the top player of Ozzie's board?

One player remains: Bosa.

Just because we don't need a QB, doesn't mean that they weren't at the top of the list. It would be foolish not to evaluate ALL players regardless if we need them or not. List could have easily been Goff, Ramsey, Bosa, Elliott, Stanley

The only thing that's going on in that draft room is Ozzy is trying to dig himself out of draft/ contract hole that the Ravens are in and also with one hand tied behind his back. Ravens are not allowed to select alpha male players. Who on this team reminds you of any out spoken alpha player that was on the 2012 Superbowl Team? Ravens use to have a Gen Patton and like minded players now not so much. Kinder gentler neutered Ravens Team.

I think the Ravens would've liked very much for Sleazy Jones to be reasonable but that can't be expected. So, the next best thing they tried was to see if they could trade down, all the while knowing they had a blue chip tackle they were going to take if there was no great call for a trade down. I say we nailed the pick and move on to more exciting (not necessarily better) things today and tomorrow.

After being much-maligned Juan Castillo has grown on me. He's shown what he can provide to players of the right attitude (aka not Bryant McKinnie) and what they can grow to be. Stanley looks like he fits right into that and has plenty of talent in his own right.

Go follow the Steelers or Bengals or whoever.

Whats wrong with wanting what the Ravens were founded on? Why does everything have to become "Progressive" I know, just sit down and have another glass of purple Kool aid to wash down the crap their peddling and dream of yesterday.

The Tuncil  'incident' is several levels of stupidity
1. Doing anything that could jeopardize your entire career
2. Letting somebody video you doing it
3. Keeping people in your inner circle this stupid
4. Making  your social media so easy to hack.

Being past the 4th level of stupid makes Tuncil too great a risk for the Ravens. The wise Oz knows.

Well, the league has changed, so there's that.

Not a whole lot of winning teams with "alpha males" out there anymore. If you're expecting a resurrection of Ray Lewis or Ed Reed, you might want to get in line now. You're going to be waiting a LONG time.

And that's not a Ravens problem... that's a you problem.

After seeing this last idiotic picture of Tunsil, I agree that the Ravens picked the best guy available for them. It is a shame Ramsey was gone because we could have used him, but, it is paramount to give Joe protection and Monroe has proven he can't do it. The only mistake Ozzie made was signing that bozo to more than one year.

This kinda made me sick to read. I didn't realize Dallas was actually fielding offers, I was under the impression we offered and they didn't want to budge. Ozzie should've given up WHATEVER they wanted for Ramsey, he's that kind of player. Wow, I'm speechless, how do you get stingy when you have a once in a generation player there for the taking. Such a travesty, Ramsey is an amazing amazing prospect.

How many times has a team giving up "whatever" to move up worked out real well?  Those kinds of moves hamstring a team for years.

Yeah, I'm bookmarking this one for a few years.

This will be Gold if Ramsey doesn't become the "generational" player you claim.

I don't see a single generational player in this entire draft.

It worked for the Falcons going up to get Julio Jones who's arguably the best WR in football now. You beat the elite teams in this league with impact players, bottom line. I'll take quality over quantity every day of the week. Now that's not to say I don't like the Stanley pick, I think it's a great addition for our offense and he should turn out to be an outstanding LT for many years to come.

It's just going to sting knowing we were so close to Ramsey though, players like him don't just come along every year, he was special. I guess that's where my philosophy and Ozzie's differ, I would rather give up whatever it takes to get a once in a generation player like Ramsey, anything short of a future 1st I would give up in a heartbeat.

Almost every player we select is an Alpha. Most have been team captains and are leaders. Where you get that garbage is beyond me cuz the Ravens don't pick players that are reserved and shy.

Ramsey is good but he isn't THAT good. He takes plays off and only had 3 interceptions HIS WHOLE CAREER!

I hope you do. I think Stanley is going to be an outstanding player which will soften the blow but Jalen Ramsey is going to be a star. Go look at what Marcus Peters did last year as a rookie in KC, Ramsey is 10x the player Peters was coming out, he will dominate.

And that's just what Ramsey is: A prospect. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Ramsey to be a Raven. But I didn't want us to give up the ship to get him. The guy is an above average physical athlete, true, but "once in a generation player" is pushing things, in my opinion, and obviously ours and the teams that drafted ahead of JAX. opinions also.

But ONE good player hamstrung the team.  They have a real shortage of talent at other positions.  What's their playoff record since 2008?

5 years from now we could easily be saying Jalen Ramsey is the best CB in football. I don't feel like we "lost" the 1st round because we missed on the trade though, I think Stanley can come and outstanding LT under the tutelage of Juan Castillo so there is a silver lining. We hit a stand up double with Stanley, I just think you pull the trigger on Ramsey and we hit it out of the park. My draft philosophy is always to swing for the fences, you beat elite teams by having players like Ramsey in the fold.

Yup, and that's only one year. And saying he's 10x the player is obviously a stretch. There's plenty of game tape on Ramsey where he wasn't great by any stretch.

And even if he dominates, it doesn't necessarily translate into wins, which is the goal here.

Yeah, he's one of the best receivers in football.

And his team is typically not very good. So whats the point of being great if you're team isn't?

Makes you wonder if the Falcons didn't do the deal and came away with 3 or 4 different players who could have all made an impact if they'd be better off.

I get it, these are "sexy" guys, but sex doesn't win in the NFL.

I don't mind the pick, its not a guy who is gonna score touchdowns but he will help protect our investment at QB. The question to me is what did Jerry want in the trade. Buckner was still on the board but the Ravens generally go by the best player available mantra. I like the fact that they are working from the trenches out.
Now that they have filled a need in the trenches lets get some help on that defense. CB, Pass Rusher, ILB are still glaring needs the first will be harder to fill now that 1st round had a big run on them. So I'm expecting us to take a ILB or Pass Rusher if we stay at 36.

Jerry Jones is an absolute imbecile. He should have traded with us. Nobody was interested in Zeke Elliot in the Top 10 except the Cowboys. He could have traded back, gotten his guy and with the ammo he would have gotten from Ozzie he would have had a better, more enticing offer to move back up to pick up his QB in the late 1st round. Im glad he got denied. I had always defended the Cowboys, Jerry Jones, and Romo as a good team/owner/player but damn I think he really missed the boat and worse of all is that we pay the price. Ramsey was ours. :-(

some of the posts i am reading on here are just mind boggling. i am so glad they did not give the house for ramsey or anyone else. LT was the right pick to make to protect your #1 investment which is flacco. if flacco has no time to throw or the running back has no lanes to run through than the offense will struggle as proven this past season. all these teams that give up the house for 1 player have accomplished nothing and set their teams back for many years. if goff and wentz end up busts the rams and eagles will be bottom dwellers for a decade
